ROMSEY could see more residents flocking to the town after it was revealed more searchers are looking to rent in the area.

According to property site Rightmove, week-on-week searches for renting in Romsey increased by 24 per cent from January 18 to January 24 compared to January 11 to January 17.

The average asking rent in Romsey is 906 - up by 2.8 on last year, a Rightmove spokesperson confirmed.

Director of estate agent Winkworth, Claire Wells, believes the reason behind the increase is more city dwellers want to "try before they buy" in this "well-connected location", with some wanting to leave the city life behind.

She said: "During the first few weeks of 2021, we have seen a big increase in rental enquiries about detached properties with garden space in well-connected locations and Romsey is meeting all of the criteria.

"City dwellers, specifically Londoners, want to try before they buy and divide their working week between home and office.

"When life starts to return to normal, some are retaining their London homes and renting them out, and others are on the market and simply want to leave city life behind."

She added: "Lockdown has certainly made many people reassess what is important to them, whether that is a desire to continue working from home, finding the living space to do so, good local schools plus wanting a bigger garden for their children to play in and renting in Romsey and surrounding villages seems to be a very popular choice."
