Shropshire Paving

The one thing every garden needs is a seating area, somewhere to sit, relax and unwind.

We have installed literally hundreds of patios of all shapes and sizes across Shropshire and no two are the same as everyone has different requirements for their garden patio.

Shropshire Patio Paving Materials

Patio paving materials can vary from budget concrete paving slabs, patterned concrete patio slabs, large flagstones, Indian sandstone, natural limestone, natural welsh slate or granite. We have also used block pavers, concrete setts, tile and recycled brick.

Within these options there are also texture, size and colour options to consider so the possibilities are endless.

There are also numerous paving slab manufacturers to choose from including Bowland Stone, Wyresdale, Stonemarket, Marshalls, Bradstone, Eaton and Village Stone to name just a few.

Some manufacturers will charge a premium for their branded patio products. Whether this means you are getting a better paving product is a matter of opinion.

Choosing a Patio Paving Slab

The centre piece of any garden is normally the patio so it is really important to think about the kind of feel you want when you walk into the garden.

Questions to ask yourself are:

What we try to do is tailor a Shropshire patio product to your specific requirements. For example, you may have a small garden and you might want it to look larger and brighter. On some new builds now, the garden space is very small so you might want a unique design to pave the entire area using a selection of different patio materials.

You are more than welcome to look at brochures before your initial consultation which is free if you reside within Shropshire, but the problem is that a lot of marketed products are not actually stock items, so you will not be able to see samples unless they are ordered. Also the photos do not always do justice to the product colours.

During your initial consultation, we can discuss your requirements and budget, and from here we can suggest a range of options and provide samples for you to choose from. There is no substitute for seeing the actual products.

If you prefer, we can meet you at our suppliers some of which have display areas, and we can talk you through the options available. We use local Shropshire suppliers

Shropshire Patio Installation

In our view there is only one way to lay a patio - the right way. Our quotations for Shropshire patio slabbing are based on allowing sufficient materials and sufficient time to do the job the right way first time every time. We have built our success on providing quality workmanship at a competitive price.

Our patio slabbing quotations will not be the cheapest but in this industry you will definitely get what you pay for. Every patio area is first prepared by digging out the area to a sufficient depth to allow for hardcore, mortar, and the thickness of the paving slab itself.

Hardcore is raked out, levelled and compacted to form a solid base on which to lay the slabs. Some companies will save money but not using hardcore but eventually this will always lead to loose paving slabs.

We then lay the patio slabs on a full bed of mortar. Most companies will 'spot' slabs putting a little mortar on each corner of the slab. This is done to save time and money but leaves a hollow space underneath the slab. It is then only a matter of time before the slab starts rocking and they will then need to be re-laid.

Finally if you have chosen a patio paving slab that is designed to be laid with a pointing gap between the slabs, then this should be done with a semi wet mortar mix to ensure the mixture sets properly. This is another common mistake that will result in weeds appearing through the joints.
