Resort-Style Pool Area

Lounge chairs fill several niches in this resort-style patio, providing a place for many guests to relax. A raised wading pool sits on one side of the pool and houses two chairs immersed in the water for an island getaway feel. The loggia area features a dining area for eight, as well as a large outdoor living area that surrounds an oversized limestone fireplace complete with a flat-panel TV. The glass tile in the pool interior reflects the water, while the LED lighting allows the homeowner to create different moods in the courtyard by altering the color of the light. Landscape designer Jamie Durie installed this corner trellis to take advantage of every inch of space. The curved deck sits right at the edge of the pool, and floating benches allow for entertaining a large crowd. A planter box trailing across the fence blocks the harsh sun yet still catches the light. Ocean-colored pots tie in the color of the pool, and white poufs serve double duty as ottomans and pool toys.

Designer Velvet Hammerschmidt converted this large backyard into four areas for entertaining, including a place for lounging by the pool. She added Paola and Richard Schulz furniture to provide an area for eating around the pool. A spacious balcony gives a view of the entire backyard, while sliding glass doors allow for views of the pool from indoors.

This elaborate pool setup looks like a water park, but it's actually a backyard. The 45-foot pool slide adds a fun element to the yard for both kids and adults.
