AUSTIN Three urban pest trainings will be held in Austin for those wanting to obtain Structural Pest Control Service continuing education units for 2014, according to Wizzie Brown, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service entomologist for Travis County.

Brown said all three classes will be held at the AgriLife Extension office, located at 1600-B Smith Road.

Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. and four continuing education units will be provided at each class, Brown said. Snacks and drinks will also be provided.

Program dates, content and units offered will be:

Oct. 10. One continuing education unit each in integrated pest management, general, termite and pest categories. Topics include integrated pest management of occasional invaders, drywood termites, stinging insects and fire ant management. Speakers include Molly Keck, AgriLife Extension entomologist for Bexar County, Brown and Dr. Bob Davis, a market development specialist with BASF Pest Control.

Nov 7. One continuing education unit each in integrated pest management, lawn and ornamental, termite and pest. Topics include integrated pest management of ants, biology and management of fleas, wood-boring insects, and landscape and ornamental pests. Speakers include Keck, Brown and Davis.

Dec 12. One continuing education unit each in termite, pest, weed, and laws and regulations continuing education units. Topics include biology and management of termites and cockroaches, weed identification and control, and laws and regulations. Speakers include Daphne Richards, AgriLife Extension horticulturist for Travis County, Brown and Mike Kelly, Structural Pest Control Service coordinator.

Program cost will range from $75 to $100, depending on the date of registration as shown in the program details at https://agriliferegister.tamu.edu/TravisCounty.
