DAYTONA BEACH No one was injured when a pest control truck caught fire Friday, releasing thick, black smoke in the area, an official said.

Fire officials say a faulty pump caused the blaze in the back of the pest control truck Friday afternoon.

Daytona Beach fire crews arrived at the corner of South Beach Street and Loomis Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. Friday and found a truck filled with fertilizer on fire, Lt. Larry Stoney said in a release.

Crews began to battle the blaze after determining the fertilizer chemicals wouldnt react violently with water, Stoney said.

A faulty gas-powered pump is believed to have started the fire, Stoney said.

The truck sustained $2,000 to $3,000 in damage, Stoney said.
