Rats on the move in Queensland

Rats and mice are on the move sooner than usual this year after an early onset of cool weather in the south east.

Pest control businesses are receiving more requests for help as the rodents look for shelter in people's properties.

Unwanted visitors are moving into homes across the south east. Pest control technicians like Garry Sherlock are fielding more call-outs after this week's cold snap

The cool change is driving rats and mice indoors where it's warm and dry, Mr Sherlock told 7News.

There has been a major increase in evidence of them and where clients are having problems.

Customers like Brisbane resident Linda O'Hagan have annual pest checks because she doesn't want rodents making themselves at home in her home.

Once they arrive they're hard to get rid of.

"If anything like that got into our ceiling they'd create a big problem, she said.

One of the major concerns about rats and mice moving in is the damage they cause to wiring and plumbing inside the home.
