LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.

A worker at a Gwinnett County Shoneys restaurant sent Channel 2 Action news video showing roaches crawling around the kitchen of the establishment. Alvin Brooks, the employee, says he captured the problems from inside the kitchen using his cellphone. The restaurant says the problem is an isolated case. I dropped the chicken, I turned around, and Im like Whoa,' it could have gone in the barbecue sauce and no one would have noticed, Brooks said. The incident happened at the Shoneys at the Sugarloaf Mills mall in Lawrenceville. Brooks called the Gwinnett County Health Department earlier this week. Inspectors visited the restaurant Tuesday and found roaches at the location and ordered the restaurant to hire a pest control service by Wednesday, according to a department spokesperson. A spokesperson for Shoneys released a statement saying: The health and safety of our guests and team members is always our top priority. Upon learning of this situation, we immediately took action with our local health department, a pest control company and the mall to ensure that our brand new restaurant, with new equipment, is clean and free of any infestation. We received a health department score of 91. This was an isolated incident at our newest restaurant and we are working closely with the mall to determine the cause as this is not a stand-alone location. We will continue to constantly assess our procedures in order to provide our guests with an enjoyable dining experience. The Gwinnett County Health Department returned to the establishment on Wednesday. The restaurant fully complied with the Health Department's directive to receive pest control services. As a result of this follow-up inspection, the restaurant has been instructed to perform additional cleaning and to continue to monitor for pest. The complaint remains open and an inspection will be conducted in the near future to confirm that all corrective actions have been performed by the restaurant, said Jessica Anderson, a spokeswoman for the Gwinnett County Health Department. Brook says he reported the problem to the health department despite the possible repercussions. Im sure some kind of repercussion, but I was always told if you are doing right, you cant be wrong, Brooks said.
