A man and a youth have been charged after a plumber was assaulted and robbed at Lalor Park, in Sydney's west.

The plumber, a 24-year-old man, was confronted by the pair while conducting emergency repairs at a unit on Parkside Drive about 6pm (AEDT) on Monday.

He was held and had his money and bank cards taken, police say.

He was then assaulted and detained by one of alleged attackers while the other went to nearby shops to use his bank cards.

Police were called and officers from Blacktown Local Area Command arrived at the scene while the assault was occurring.

The offenders ran off but were arrested on Tuesday at a Lalor Park home, police say.

A 24-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were charged with affray, robbery in company and detaining a person in company.

The 24-year-old was refused bail, while the 17-year-old Seven Hills youth appeared before Parramatta Children's Court on Tuesday.

The plumber was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment to suspected facial fractures and bruising.
