A thug left a drinker with a fractured jaw and eye socket in a drunken fracas outside a Midland bar.

Plumber John Evans lashed out in a row with victim Martin Roberts and his brother Anthony after they had all been kicked out of Lloyds Bar in Stourbridge.

The 20-year-old also hit Anthony Roberts but he was not badly hurt.

Paul Spratt, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court that all involved had been drinking.

It was a significant blow to the face, he said of the blow landed on Martin Roberts.

Recorder Derek Chinnery told Evans it was a significant offence because he had caused a serious injury to Martin Roberts, who had been in a lot of pain.

He said Evans had lost his good name as a result of the incident but added: I would like to think this is something that was very much out of character.

Evans, of Brickhouse Road, Rowley Regis, admitted wounding and common assault.

He was handed a 20-week spell in a young offender institution, suspended for a year.

Evans was also ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid community work, placed on supervision for a year and told to pay Martin Roberts 700 compensation.
