Medina Journal-Register MIDDLEPORT The four seasons are one of the things people love about this area of Western New York, with fall being one of the most colorful. Falls rich colors are captured on some of the Village of Middleports porches on a new poster.

Falling for Middleports Porches features 18 residential porches from all around the village. The photos were taken by local photographer Gretchen Schweigert, a village resident, and showed off falls yellows, reds, browns and gold colors as well as the welcoming feeling of many village homes in a variety of unique and wonderful ways.

It was fun to use the porches in my own hometown, said Schweigert, who tells her story of how she photographed some of Middleports porches for the poster on a Youtube.com video. These homes and porches are so connected with my own childhood memories. The video can be accessed from the homepage on the http://www.Middleport-NewYork.com website.

One of the porches Schweigert photographed was that of Middleport Mayor Richard Westcott. What I love about this poster is that it features porches from many different homes from throughout the whole village including the old Victorians, newer homes, and small and large homes alike, said Westcott. The colors and variety really show why so many of our residents find the Village of Middleport a great place to call home.

The Falling for Middleports Porches project is part of a promotional campaign for the village, and donations made for each poster will be used to publish a book written by Anna Wallace, former village historian. Current Village Historian Christa Lutz is working with Wallace to turn her historical accounts of Middleports past into a published book featuring stories, news clippings and photos. Anna does such a wonderful job of telling our story that I cant wait until we can have her book completed and available to share with anyone interested in our local history, said Lutz.

Posters are available at Middleport Village Hall during regular business hours and at the Village Historians Office at 20 Main St. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. People wishing to have a poster mailed can also send a $14 check to cover mailing costs and their donation to MATABC, PO Box 114, Middleport, New York 14105.

Anyone with questions about the poster or how to order them can email news@Middleport-NewYork.com.
