The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) recently honored Richmond-area remodeling contractors HomeMasons and Hampden Hill Custom Building with 2013 South East Regional Contractor of the Year (CotY) awards.

Manakin-Sabot-based HomeMasons won in the Residential Bath $30K-$60K category; and Richmond-based Hampden Hill was recognized for Best Residential Kitchen $80,000 to $120,000 in its annual awards competition.

Both firms were multiple-project honorees in the 2013 NARI Central Virginia Chapter CotY program.

Additionally, the principals of each winning firm were business associates, working together for a number of years.

We are happy to be part of the NARI organization whose members consistently create home improvements of this very high caliber. And, of course, honored to be recognized as creating the best of the best in our nine-state Southeast region, HomeMasons president, Mason Hearn said .

NARI members dedicate an extensive amount of time, thought and hard work into each individual project and it is a tremendous honor to be recognized for a couple of our projects this year. It is great to know that others share the same beliefs that our projects are built with the highest standards in mind, Hampden Hills president, John Cronly ,said .

All projects submitted for judging were an improvement or an addition to an existing structure.

An impartial panel of judges, experts within the remodeling industry and associated fields, selected winners based on each entrants binders, which include before and after photography and project descriptions.

Judging focused on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation and degree of difficulty.

To be considered for a CotY Award, a company must be a NARI member in good standing.
