Tomahawk-For many homeowners across the Northwoods, there are some common issues which come up with winter weather costing time and money from repairs. Roofing expert and owner of Bear Renovations, Mike Barnes, says many people might underestimate how much snow a roof can hold or how ice dams can damage their property.

"Ice dams can cause all types of damage to the dry wall and woodwork inside of homes," says Barnes. "We do ice dam removal, but we havent seen any ice damming thats requiring that as of yet and itll generally come in February or March," said Barnes.

Barnes believes new homeowners or transplants to the area might not realize just how bad build up from snow or ice can be to a roof. "Itll find a way to creep into the home and youll start noticing it around your windows coming into your drywall," said Barnes. If homeowners are noticing issues, Barnes has some good steps to follow.

"If you're seeing a lot of iciclesgrowing off of your rain gutters, take a long stick and remove those. They're adding extra weight and can cause damage to your rain gutter systems," said Barnes.
