A Tallahassee roofing company will soon get nearly $2 million to re-roof the Dougherty County jail.

Commissioners accepted and approved a $1.8 million bid from Jenkins Roofing, Inc. Monday.

Colonel John Ostrander said SPLOST money will pay for 158,000 sq. ft. of roofing overseven different buildings. He said the old roof was 20 years old, and had developed some leaks over the last year.

"The roof is gonna be similar construction to the old roof," Ostrander said. "However, technology has increased, so the actual materials used to construct the roof should be better quality materials than the materials they're replacing."
