SEVEN Sheds' Kentish Ale has taken out a gold medal at the Top Taste Craft Ale and Beer Awards at the Taste Festival in Hobart.

The ale, which is brewed at Seven Sheds brewery at Railton, was named among a crop of eight others in the gold medal category.

The beers were judged in three categories: Top lager-pilsner style, top ale and top dark style.

Judged by Dr Richard Doyle, Tim Goddard and Phil Laing, the beers were judged on the opening day of the Taste Festival.

In addition to being named a gold medal class ale, the Kentish Ale was also very highly commended in the Top Ale category.

The category was taken out by the Moo Brew Pale Ale, which is brewed at Moorilla in Hobart.

Moo Brew dominated the inaugural awards and took out all three categories.

All judges were impressed with the calibre of the brews on offer and said it heralded a bright future for microbreweries in Tasmania.
