JACKSON, MI Microbreweries are popping up everywhere around the Jackson area these days.

The latest, Sheds Brewing Company, is set to open Saturday, Jan. 25, at 3090 Shirley Drive in Blackman Township, the former site of Lenores Aerobics.

Sheds Brewing co-owners Blong Thao and Jeff Tolonen, who are both Consumers Energy employees, have been busy renovating the interior of the location and, most importantly, perfecting the brews that will make up the Sheds selection.

Thao and Tolonen are self-described hopheads and rank IPAs among their favorites. However, expect a diverse variety on tap at Sheds.

Our goal is robust, malty, full-flavored, high-quality American ales light to dark, Thao said.

Sheds will feature six beers on tap to start. Thao and Tolonen brew in single-barrel batches, making Sheds fall under nanobrewery status.

There will also be snacks available. Hours will be noon to midnight Saturdays, noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and 5 p.m. to midnight Fridays.

In addition to the beer, Sheds will feature free pool and ping-pong tables and flat-screen televisions and eventually an outdoor beer garden.

Sheds will be the third brewery to open in Jackson since June 2013, joining Grand River Marketplace, 117 W. Louis Glick Highway, and Bifferhaus Brewing Company, 900 Lansing Ave.

We think its great Im a member of the mug club at the other two, Tolonen said. Wed love to see Jackson become a mecca for beer great beer.
