A GROUP of veteran bowlers have been left devastated by vandals who have destroyed their sheds just weeks after they were built.

Members of Astley Bridge Veterans Bowling Club had dipped into their kitty funds to pay the 220 needed for the two sheds.

The sheds, which were needed to shelter people marking the scores, had taken the members several days to erect. But on Tuesday they arrived at the Ivy Bank Road green to find that the sheds had been destroyed.

Ken Lord, secretary of the club, whose members are aged over 60 with the oldest bowler aged 93, said everyone was gutted.

The sheds had been pushed and smashed to bits.

Everybody was as sick as chips about it.

We dont have a lot of money because everybody is a pensioner, he added.

Mr Lord, who has been bowling at the club for seven years, said the sheds had been pushed on the floor and it looked as though somebody had tried to start a fire inside them.
