ORINDA -- A .7-mile stretch of Miner Road, between Camino Pablo and Camino Don Miguel, has been closed in both directions since about noon Wednesday due to a fallen tree that brought down power lines, according to Mark Nagel, Orinda's police chief.

PG&E and a tree removal company are on site working to clear the fallen tree and power lines, but the road is expected to remain closed until 11 p.m.

Nagel said the police department received a report of the large tree down at 11:50 a.m. and PG&E responded promptly, cutting off power through the affected lines to prevent fires.

"It's going to hit commute pretty hard," Nagel said. "We haven't had this much water and that kind of storm in a long time, I actually expected more. Fortuantley that's all we had," he said.
