A motorist disqualified for dangerous driving was caught on a road miles from home collecting equipment for his window cleaning business.

Paul Simon Campbell, 29, had been banned and given a suspended prison sentence last year after leading police on a high speed chase around Colwyn Bay.

But he ignored the three-year disqualification and was caught in his Renault van by Cheshire Police near Chester heading towards North Wales.

Today a judge at Caernarfon Crown Court said he had been "stupid" and activated part of his suspended sentence and gave him a further term for driving while disqualified. He must serve a total of five months and two weeks in prison.

The court heard Campbell had been caught on September 28, 2019 after going the wrong way around a roundabout and being pursued by police.

Last February, Caernarfon Crown Court heard Campbell admit dangerous driving. He was given a 12-month prison term, suspended for 18 months, and banned from driving for three years.

But today the same court was told that Campbell had been stopped by Cheshire Police on the A550 near Chester heading towards North Wales on September 27, 2020.

He told the officers he was disqualified and had no insurance.

Campbell, of Kensington Avenue, Old Colwyn, said he ran his own window cleaning business and was collecting second hand equipment.

He was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified, having no insurance and failing to comply with a suspended sentence order.

Sarah Yates, defending, said Campbell's behaviour had been "unimpressive" and he is extremely remorseful.

She said: "He was trying to start a window cleaning business. In doing so he made the silly mistake of driving his vehicle to pick up some equipment." He has two children and a stepchild to support.

The judge told Campbell he was turning his life around and had made progress towards being rehabilitated.

She jailed Campbell for four months of his original sentence and a further one month and two weeks for driving while disqualified. There was no separate penalty for driving without insurance.
