The old cracked one has become a badge of honour for the presenters at the tiny enclave, which was targeted by rock-throwing protesters

Its a cracker you just could not make up. ITV bosses ordered a replacement World Cup studio window for the one broken by rock-throwing protesters only for the fitters to break the new one.

The new glass was delivered by Brazilian glaziers in the aftermath of the trouble outside the studio on Rios Copacabana beach.

But it was broken almost as soon as it arrived.

It was a classic, said an insider.

They delivered it and it was a real job just to get it in place.

Then they bust it.

The old cracked one has become a badge of honour for the presenters at the tiny enclave, which straddles the main thoroughfare next to Copacabana beach.

The window was pelted by demonstrators during live coverage of the opening match of the tournament as riots gripped the city.

It stunned the ITV team, led by Adrian Chiles, and left large bullet-shaped cracks in the glass.
