Sean Dyche leaving Burnley? Here are the odds on who can replace him – The Sackrace

Sean Dyche is reportedly considering leaving Burnley at the end of the season, as talks between himself and the clubs chairman Mike Garlick have broken down over the topic of several key players contract extensions.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Dyche is allegedly frustrated that the club have failed to agree contract extensions with a number of senior players, as well as the Clarets limited budget for the forthcoming transfer window.

Dyche has two years left to run on his current deal at Turf Moor, which if completed would take him up to the 10 year mark at the Lancashire club. Should he depart prematurely, though, then he will certainly not be short of offers elsewhere.

Norwich are current bookmaker favourites to land Dyche at the end of the campaign (4/1). The Canaries have endured a disappointing spell back in the Premier League and currently lie seven points from safety at the bottom of the table. The East Anglian side look destined for the drop next month so could look to replace manager Daniel Farke at the end of the season, with Dyche at the very top of their wishlist.

Aston Villa have also been long-standing admirers of the former Watford boss and may seek to replace Dean Smith in the summer if they are relegated from the top-flight. Dyche would see a significant increase in funds to use in the transfer window if he did make the switch to Villa Park, and would surely relish the opportunity of working with such a big club.

The West Midlands outfit are currently 4/1 to sign Dyche at the end of the season, making them second-favourites behind Norwich.

Bournemouth are third-favourites to acquire Dyches signature at 6/1. The Cherries are another side to have massively struggled this season and could also find themselves relegated from the top-flight next month. If that happens, there is little chance that manager Eddie Howe would remain at the Vitality Stadium, with a host of top-half Premier League sides showing strong interest in him in the past.

We all know that Dyche will have no problem in finding a new employer, but his potential departure does leave the question: Who would Burnley replace him with?

At 6/1, current bookies favourite is Premier League journeyman Sam Allardyce. Big Sam has managed pretty much everyone in the top-flight, with his latest role coming at Everton back in 2018. Allardyces football isnt the prettiest, its route one and very direct, but if that style of play is suited to anyone it is Burnley with the robust personnel they have available to them.

The 65-year-old is no stranger to the north west having managed Blackpool, Bolton, Blackburn and Everton in the past; he also wouldnt cost a penny to release from a current contract given the fact he is currently without a club, making this a straightforward appointment on paper.

At 13/1, Lee Johnson could be an outside shot for the Burnley job

Just like Allardyce, Mark Hughes is a troubleshooter. The Welsh manager has been out of work since leaving his post as Southampton manager in 2018 and has a wealth of top-flight experience having previously managed the likes of Blackburn, Manchester City and Stoke in the countrys top-tier.

The ex-Manchester United front man knows the division inside out and would cost nothing to appoint considering he is a free agent. He may not be the most inspiring candidate, but you cannot argue with his track record of never being relegated from the Premier League.

Lee Johnson has certainly earned his stripes in the managerial game with Bristol City. The 39-year-old is an exciting prospect for Burnley fans when you look at all he has achieved at Ashton Gate. He is a young, hungry manager who has a huge future in the dugout and certainly the most attractive proposition the Clarets look to have on the table.

The sticking point is that Johnson is tied into a contract with his current employers which doesnt expire until 2023, so would most likely cost a pretty penny to appoint. Although, looking at his track record and longevity in the game it definitely seems like a worthwhile investment.
