Vintage vehicles like a 1935 Chevrolet sedan, a '54 Chevrolet truck, old Harley Davidson motorcycles and John Deere tractors from the '40s and '50s have been part of past lineups at the annual Cruisin' at Chapel Hill Baptist Church event.
"You never know what someone will show up with," said Mike Ballard, church member and coordinator of the cruise-in.
More than 200 cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors will be on display at the fourth annual cruise-in, which will be held in the parking lot of the church off U.S. Highway 43 N.
The cruise-in will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 12, and admission is free.
This year's cruise-in will include a 1960s autographed Carroll Shelby Mustang and a lime green 1950s Chevrolet "401k truck," given the name because its owner spent his retirement money refurbishing it. The Al-Anabi race team, formed by a sheikh who is a member of the ruling family in Qatar, will also be at the cruise-in with their team's drag-racing car. Also, the Pickle Queen and Otis impersonators from "The Andy Griffith Show" will bring a 1960s Ford Fairlane Mayberry squad car look-alike.
The cruise-in is part of Chapel Hill's outreach ministry. The event slogan "Transformation/Restoration: The Work is Never Done" refers to how Jesus Christ transforms and restores a person's life, Ballard said. He said the cruise-in is a family-fun event that draws people from nearby cities like Talladega, Huntsville and Meridian, Miss.
People as young as 16 years old to people who are 80 years old bring cars, he said.
The church welcomes anyone to bring a car, truck, motorcycle or tractor to the event.
Trailer parking is provided by Hulsey Heating and Cooling and D&D Towing and Repair will be on site. There will be a registration tent on the day of the event to register vehicles and participants' names for door prizes. Door prizes donated from businesses around town will be given away every 15 minutes until the grand prize, a set of BFGoodrich tires, will be given away at 2 p.m. The tires are paid for by an anonymous donor, Ballard said.
