WARMC enlarging lobby to enhance services By NEIL YOUNG The Daily News MohaveDailyNews.com |
BULLHEAD CITY From its humble beginnings as an emergency room on Hancock Road to a 24-bed hospital on Silver Creek Road originally named Bullhead Community Hospital, Western Arizona Regional Medical Center now has expanded to 139 beds, and has 700 employees and 120 physicians.
As the building is about to turn 30 years old, a
$1 million renovation gets under way Monday. The registration area and surgery waiting room will be enlarged, a gift shop will be added and the coffee shop will be moved to the lobby area. This is the only part of the building that hasnt been previously remodeled, noted Alex Villa, hospital CEO, at a Friday afternoon ground-breaking ceremony.
Local contractors will be used.
Were doing everything possible to keep the money here in this community, Villa said. We support the community in many ways and the community supports us.
During the eight- to 10-week construction period, the main entrance will be blocked off and WARMC visitors will need to enter the building through the emergency room doors.

Melbourne, Australia (PRWEB) March 30, 2014
From offices and factories, to hotels, airport terminals and retail complexes, the Commercial and Industrial Building Construction industry constructs most of the buildings where Australians work, shop and play. The industry's revenue is forecast to total $29.6 billion in 2013-14, up 0.7% on the previous year but remaining well below the record peak of 2007-08. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Anthony Kelly, confidence in the commercial property market has struggled to recover due to the fragile global economy and sluggish local consumption and investment trends.
Over the five years through 2013-14, industry revenue is projected to decline at an annualised 4.3%. Profit margins have also been squeezed. The industry's performance corresponds with the slump of private investment into commercial and industrial buildings in the aftermath of the global financial crisis and weak investor confidence, says Kelly. However, some contractors have derived stimulus from growth in the aligned institutional building market (notably primary schools refurbishment) and the reconstruction of flood-damaged buildings in Queensland.
The industry's prospects are forecast to strengthen over the next five years, with stronger conditions on local property markets due to rising property yields and occupancy rates. Industry revenue is forecast to be primarily driven by a resurgence in the value of commercial building construction (notably hotels and office developments) and, to a lesser extent, increased industrial building activity. Direct employment is relatively low because the industry relies heavily on a subcontracted labour force. Industry employment is estimated at 40,000 people in 2013-14, while the total workforce numbers about 155,000 people when including direct employees, apprentices, working proprietors, consultant engineers, consultant architects, surveyors and subcontracted labour. The Commercial and Industrial Building Construction industry has a low concentration of ownership, with the four largest firms accounting for less than 20.0% of annual revenue. Relatively few companies are capable of constructing large-scale or complex landmark projects.

ELIZABETHTOWN The Essex County Government Center needs new roofing, while the County Highway Department garage requires new siding.
This week, the Essex County Board of Supervisors Public Works Committee approved spending $32,000 to have AES Northeast of Plattsburgh prepare engineering plans for the roof replacement at the countys main complex in Elizabethtown.
We have several roof issues, Department of Public Works Superintendent Anthony LaVigne told lawmakers. We have areas where theres rotting sheathing that needs replacing.
LaVigne, whos retiring in May, said the county complex has sections built in 1809, 1931 and 1950.
AES will do the design, complete with specs, ready for bid, LaVigne said. We will do the worst (roof) first and move on to the next.
The committee voted 7-1 to hire AES. Supervisor Michael Marnell (R-Schroon) voted no because he wanted to issue a request for proposals to compare prices for the engineering work.
NOT THE YEAR
LaVigne ran into problems when he wanted to spend an additional $28,000 to hire a contractor to put new fiber cement siding on the County Highway Department garage in Lewis.
The project had been budgeted at $100,000, with the country DPW crew doing the work.
LaVigne said the crew will be occupied with other projects and not available until at least fall to put up the siding.
