HOUSTON -- Trisha Keel has been in the spotlight lately for her outrage that an apartment complex was being built too close to a cemetery, and especially because those comments came the day before it went up in flames.

"I feared absolutely there would be police at my door," said Keel, a Feng Shui Consultant and Houston resident. "I had people say, 'I'm not gonna make her mad.' Which was kidding. Did you light that fire? Kidding."

It was a strange coincidence, but it just made her message even stronger.

"This was burned right here because of its proximity," said Keel.

She says the cemetery could've been saved if there was more space for firefighters to access the burning building.

"I know at hotels and hospitals and schools, theres fire lanes. How come theres no fire lane," said Keel. "There's no space to put a truck. I mean you cant walk between the headstone and the fence."

Top Striker wins late in Carolina Cup Steeplechase - March 29, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) - Jockey Willie McCarthy bided his time before making his winning move until late in Saturdays 82nd running of the $50,000 Carolina Cup Steeplechase knowing he had plenty of horse underneath him.

With three fences left, the 30-year-old native of Ireland overtook race-leading Easy Reach and rode Top Striker to victory by 1 1/2-lengths for the horses owner, Sue Sensor of Camden.

The final time for the 2 1/8-mile trip over 11 hurdles for novice steeplechasers was 4:01 2/5.

Easy Reach held on for second while Cat Feathers, the lone mare in the field of six, finished another two lengths back in third.

For Sensor and Camden-based trainer Arch Kingsley, this was their second time teaming up for a Carolina Cup winner. In 2011, Sensors Sunshine Numbers won the Camden spring classic by a race-record 27 1/4-lengths.

This time, jockey Jeff Murphy took Easy Reach to the front from the drop of the starters flag with Top Striker in close pursuit. Cat Feathers - trained in Camden by Kate Dalton and ridden by her husband, Bernie Dalton - sat in third.

The top three stayed that way until the field headed to the ninth fence. It was there that McCarthy said he decided a day earlier while walking the Springdale Race Course to make his move aboard Top Striker.

I had a lot of horse coming three (fences) from home, McCarthy said of Top Striker, a 5-year-old gelding. I just didnt want to get into position where he was coming up against a horse with a lot of speed down the stretch.

Top Striker took the lead for keeps heading into the 10th fence and held off a game Easy Reach.

He jumped the second last (fence) and the last really fast and got away from them pretty quick, McCarthy said. He just put his head down and, just watching the video, I didnt know he was so impressive. Hes a superstar.

Business: Good fences make good business at Buffalo - March 29, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

After 30 years in business, Kevin and Pam Craigie, the owners of Buffalo Fence & Barn Company, have seen a lot of changes.

Kevin Craigie said when he moved to Flagstaff in 1969, there was nothing on Milton Road between the Arizona Department of Transportation office and Taco Bell, and Interstate 40 hadnt reached Williams yet.

Flagstaff has gotten a whole lot larger, he said. I think that the population was around 20,000 or something and thats including the students from (Northern Arizona University). You always knew someone when you walked into a restaurant.

Buffalo Fence was part of that growth.

The company sells and installs all types of fencing for both commercial and residential sites, including metal laser cut decorative fencing. It also offers automatic gates, sheds and barns. The only fences the company doesnt build are cement block.

Weve done work for the U.S. government, the state, (Northern Arizona University), the county and the city, Kevin Craigie said.

The company has done jobs as small as installing a mail box to stringing 14 miles of barbed wire fence along Lake Mary Road. Buffalo has completed jobs all over the Flagstaff and Sedona area and even gone as far as Shiprock and Gallup, N.M.

One of the hardest projects was near Gallup, Kevin Craigie said. The company was hired to fence off an old ammunition testing ground by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. There were areas where employees had to lug in supplies by hand because there was no way to access the site by truck.

The project also involved anchoring the fence into rocky hillsides.

Pam Craigie said, This is all we do. We know what were doing and we do it well.

Warren police seize about 100 marijuana plants - March 29, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

WARREN, Ohio - A basement full of marijuana is discovered in what authorities describe as a "fairly quiet neighborhood" on the Southeast side of Warren.

After receiving a tip the residents at the home may be growing the drug, police went to the home for what they call a "knock and talk."

"When they knocked on the door, the resident here opened it and the officer immediately smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming out of the house," said Warren Police Chief Eric Merkel.

Police then asked the man who answered the door to exit the home while they secured a search warrant.

"So, they are not flushing any drugs or trying to get rid of it while we're in the process of trying to get the search warrant," explained Merkel.

Within the hour, police had the paperwork needed, and entered the home.

"Approximately about two-thirds of the basement is loaded with marijuana grow," said Merkel.

It's not clear how many people live at the home, and whether or not anyone there was selling the drug.

"The neighbors have never mentioned that there were cars coming in and out of here, so I'm assuming the answer is no at this point but we don't know ," said Merkel.

No one has been charged at this point. Police will weight the marijuana and wait for lab results.
