Police: Technician stole jewelry from pest control clients - October 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    ORANGE PARK, Fla. -

A 33-year-old pest-control worker was arrested in Clay County on Wednesday on charges of grand theft and dealing in stolen property, investigators said.

Deputies said James Michael Forys stole jewelry from four clients of Florida Pest Control while he was in their homes performing pest-control services.

On Oct. 9, arrest warrants were issued for Forys on two charges of grand theft, one charge of dealing in stolen property and one charge of false verification to a second-hand owner.

Detectives said Forys has identified at least four victims so far, and there could be more. The first incident happened about a month ago. Each time, Forys was working for Florida Pest Control.

Detectives said they caught on because Forys was trying to pawn the jewelry at different pawn shops in the Jacksonville and Orange Park areas.

The detective leading the case said Forys has cooperated and confessed. He remains in the Clay County Jail.

Charles Anderton, branch manager for Florida Pest Control, said the company is cooperating with authorities as they investigate.

We are aware of it and very disappointed, Anderton said.

He said Forys was fired as soon as the company learned of the allegations.

Vector control: Rain can, but probably won't, drive rats into Portland toilets - October 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

With the rain, comes the rodents. A pest control expert says it's that time of year when rats are more likely to come up through the pipes and into your toilet, but it's not as common as people may think.

What happens is a rat finds your pipe, works his way up and ends up in your toilet. Why it happens, what attracted him to that pipe, who knows? But, they can do that, said Chris Roberts with Multnomah County Vector control.

He's the one who fields the phone calls when someone does find a rat in their restroom.

But, he says of the thousand rat inspections he does a year, only about 10 to 15 are found in the toilet.

Just the other day I noticed when it was raining a fairly large one was roaming in the field right behind, so I've definitely seen them in the area, Alberta Eyecare owner James Armstrong said.

He spotted the rat near his business on 21st and Northeast Alberta.

I certainly haven't seen rats inside, he said. That's not a problem.

Armstrong said he's seen the unwelcome rodents outside, but never in his bathroom. He plans to keep it that way.

I've already been trained to keep the seat down, so there shouldn't be an issue of anything getting out, he said.

Investigators search for Rockville fire cause - October 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Montgomery County fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a two-alarm fire at a Rockville apartment complex that sent three people to the hospital and displaced a dozen others.

The fire was reported around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Mallard Cove Apartment complex in the 8100 block of Needwood Road in the Derwood community, according to county fire department spokesperson Pete Piringer.

When units arrived on the scene they encounter heavy fire showing from a ground level unit of a three-story garden style apartment building with a report of a person trapped inside the burning unit, Piringer said. Firefighters had a difficult time gaining access from the front door of the apartment and the patio doors due to hoarders conditions inside the apartment and the patio section of the apartment.

With a report of a person trapped and heavy fire condition upon arrival, a second alarm was sounded to bring more than 100 more firefighters to the scene.

As firefighters were making an aggressive attack on the fire, they located a 56-year-old man inside the apartment, Piringer said. He was taken to a local hospital suffering smoke inhalation and a 73-year-old male was also transported to a local hospital with chest pains.

A Montgomery County firefighter also was transported to a local hospital with a minor injury to her arm. She was treated and released.

Piringer said fire investigators believe the fire started on the patio and extended inside the apartment.

Red Cross will be helping displaced tenants relocate.

The fire caused about $ 30,000 in damage and the cause is currently unknown.

Landscape lighting is one of those finishing touches that helps to complete any outdoor space, explains Donny Duke. director of design, Engledow Estates. Landscape lighting is used for not only security of your property, but also helps add to the ambiance of your outdoor living space.

Lighting technology has advanced rapidly in recent years and we are here to talk about some of these innovations.

Upgrading your landscape lighting will soon become a necessity. US government has phased out the use of incandescent bulbs by this year, meaning that many peoples landscape lights will soon have to be replaced with something else. Most people will start using LED bulbs in their landscape lighting. LEDs, although they have a higher up-front cost, will be better for you in the long run.
