Driver hurt after SUV launches off a 30-foot retaining wall - October 14, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A Bennington man is in the hospital after his SUV launches off a 30-foot retaining wall into a parking lot.

Omaha Police say Lance Stephenson, 29, was driving a Jeep Cherokee around 12:15 Monday morning on 120th Street near West Center Road.

Police say Stephenson's Jeep struck a Toyota RAV4 that was stopped in a turn lane, then crossed into the oncoming lanes of 120th Street.

Investigators say Stephenson then drove over a median, hit a sign, and drove down an embankment launching off a 30-foot retaining wall ending up in the Nobbies parking lot.

Paramedics took Stephenson to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Omaha Police say they are investigating alcohol as a possible factor in the crash and that charges are pending against Stephenson. The driver of the Toyota was not hurt.

Oasis of the Seas – simply the best - October 14, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The world may have turned a few thousand times since I first stood on the decks of Oasis of the Seas. Then it was in far off Florida as she prepared for her magnificent naming ceremony.

As is the way of such events, the ship was hardly full to capacity. As such I was able to stand back and gape at the sheer scale of the vessel. Quite simply she was, and remains, a spectacle to behold.

With seven unique neighbourhoods ranging from the first open park at sea, a recreation of an American boardwalk complete with Aqua Theatre, and the incredible Royal Promenade that is the signature of the last three classes of Royal Caribbean ships (Voyager, Freedom and now Oasis), she was quite spellbinding.

A floating marvel that would transport over 6,000 guests at a time to world-class destinations in world-class luxury and enjoying world-class entertainment and facilities.

And there was the rub. Enormous as Oasis undoubtedly was, could any cruise ship live up to such expectation and promise with 6,000 people on board plus a further 2,000 crew?

The answer turns out to be an emphatic yes, I can report. Even when full, Oasis provides whatever your expectations are for the cruise of a lifetime.

Looking for a little peace and quiet? Amble down to the Central Park at any time of the day for a drink in a sidewalk cafe or lunch among the breeze-blown trees. In the evening, with starry skies above and the warm night air, Central Park turns out to be the ideal setting for dining al fresco.

Looking for a little more action? Head for the Royal Promenade with its huge array of shops, novel eateries, traditional pub and exciting bars. Its here you can hitch a ride on the Rising Tides bar, an amazing creation where guests enjoying a soothing tipple are lifted, quite literally, to the decks above, emerging into the Central Park.

Even more nightlife is on offer in the fantastic Dazzles club set on two decks, or for the real night owls the adults-only Blaze nightclub.

Something in between the sedate and frenetic? Try the fabulous, full-on, full scale shows in the amazing Opal theatre; or Comedy Live; or a breathtaking, splashing-fun event at the Aqua Theatre high-dive shows; or perhaps the most tremendous ice dance show on either land or sea. Still looking for more? Even after a sing-along at karaoke or in the Schooner Bar with piano man Robin?

Mold Remediation – Removing your Mold Problem - October 14, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Mold Remediation - Removing your Mold Problem

Buildings with mold covered surfaces that measure more than ten square feet present an insidious health hazard that could seriously compromise the immune systems of those exposed to them. In order to be made safe, these buildings require the services of a mold removal contractor who specializes in mold remediation. Mold remediation is the cleanup process for large areas of mold most often found in schools, government buildings and commercial buildings as well as apartment buildings.

Mold remediation, like other mold cleanup, is a specialized service that should be completed by a professional contractor. Since some of the buildings in need of mold remediation are public buildings, the health of an entire community may rely on the professional contractor hired. Contractors are also expected to preserve the integrity of the site and to ensure the complete, safe removal of spores. Your home is equally as important and will receive the same type of remediation as a larger building only on a smaller scale. The health of you and your family's health is their goal.

The process of mold remediation differs from other types of remediation because there is a need for containment of the affected area. Because mold remediation is done on any size mold infestations, it can be challenging to locate the source of the moisture and make sure that all the mold is removed. Restoring the building to a usable, uncontaminated state is challenging when mold can be found:

Treating any areas of mold requires that certain precautions be taken, not only for the safety of the contractor, but also for the safety of the people that occupy or work in the building. Once you or your contractor has discovered that mold remediation is necessary, you should contact your health professional. They should be notified of the problem, they will be able to consult with your contractor during the mold remediation process to limit any physical contamination. They may also advise you to quarantine the part of your house or building that is infested and being remediated.

When containing the area and doing the mold remediation, professional techniques, tools and protective gear must be used. Mold remediation steps include:

Each contractor will have their own procedures of Mold Remediation for the client to choose from for their home's or business's individual need.

Often, buildings we enter every day are in need of mold remediation. If you're concerned that your building or home may be posing a danger, use our directory to find an experienced mold remediation contractor in your area.

Septic Tank Installation Costs | Average Price to Replace … - October 14, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Concrete Concrete tanks are the most common type of septic tank. The cost to install a septic tank made out of concrete is in the average price spectrum. These tanks are susceptible to cracking or separation, but are usually durable for a couple of decades. It's important to get these manually inspected regularly to ensure that cracks or runoff isn't occurring so that it can last as long as it should. Steel Steel septic tanks are the least durable and least popular tanks. They have covers that can corrode, which can lead to an unsuspecting person falling through the cover. The covers can be replaced separately, however, so that is something to consider. If you move into a home with an older steel tank, make sure to inspect the entire tank system. Fiberglass Fiberglass and plastic tanks are less vulnerable to the rusting and cracking of the other materials. The lower weight makes it more susceptible to structural damage, however, and it can shift in the soil. Size The cost to install a septic tank will depend a lot on the size of the tank. The bigger the tank, the higher the price will be because that means more digging and preparation for the tank. Preparation The cost to install a septic tank will increase depending on the amount of digging that needs to be done to prepare. This project usually requires a fair amount of excavation and can affect landscaping. Keep in mind, you may need to replace landscaping after the project. Red tape You might need to get a building permit for installing a septic system depending on the location and the complexity of the installation. This will increase the cost to install a septic tank, but will ensure everything is done according to code. Labor It's important to note that the labor is often as expensive, if not more, than the price of the tank itself. Working with a professional will certainly increase the cost to install a septic tank but is absolutely necessary to ensure that everything is correctly installed. Septic tank installation is a complicated process and one that could lead to a lot of damage and extremely pricey repairs if done incorrectly.

Overall, the cost to install a septic tank will largely depend on the pro you choose, and the type and size of tank you pick. Make sure to talk to at least three professionals before choosing someone to work with on your septic system.

Sewer Line Installation or Replacement Cost | Redbeacon - October 14, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A main sewer line directs all wastewater to a septic system or municipal sewer system and is an essential component of every buildings plumbing. Installing and replacing sewer lines is a significant project that should be completed by a qualified professional. The characteristics of your property are important factors in the cost of installation and replacement.

Installation procedures for sewer lines are generally similar for residential and commercial properties, but material and installation standards may vary with municipal codes. Sewer line installations at homes cost an average of $1583 in the U.S., with costs often affected by the presence of a septic tank versus public sewer services. It may cost $2497 to set a line at an apartment facility and $3201 for a business property, where larger diameter lines are typically required.

Installing a new sewer line during construction is generally uncomplicated, since access to systems is simple and groundwork is unfinished. New installations cost an average of $2076, though the amount of earth work involved or other preparation may affect the expense of the job. Replacing damaged or faulty sewer lines can be a complex job, since excavation is usually required and the removal of existing pipes can increase the time and manpower needed for the project. Replacement typically costs about $3196, though related repairs and clean up may increase overall expenses.

A number of problems can result from faulty sewer lines, and the nature of issues can help determine the extent of repairs for your home or building. Your contractor can determine if repairs may resolve drainage issues or if replacement is necessary, but in general it may cost $2817 to manage waste water backing up in drains and $1462 for backups in dishwashers, while it may cost $1533 to resolve slow draining throughout a home, and $1109 for issues with toilets. Repairing problems that lead to foul odors from drains could averages $1448, while resolving obvious leakage of waste water in a yard could cost $4208.

The distance between your home and sewer or septic system is an important factor in the cost of sewer line installation, since the time and material requirements of the job increase with its scale. Fitting and laying a line less than 100 feet typically costs about $1463, compared to $2519 for one 100 to 200, $3802 for one 200 to 300 and $5532 for a run over 300 long. Though the distance between a building and the street or septic tank is a good indicator of the jobs requirements, any earthwork needed to create the proper pitch for drainage or repairs made to existing lines or structures may increase the costs of your project.

Your sewer line installation may be an essential aspect of new construction or a necessary repair task. Regardless of the application, a number of factors will contribute to the expense of the job. Discuss with your contractor how the features of your property and the condition of existing lines and landscaping may affect the project.

How to install a house sewer and drainage info - October 14, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Since the over-all efficiency of a drainage system depends on the last link, the run of pipe which ends the house system and connects with the main sewer or septic tank, we should understand the principles of its installation. Though the amateur plumber, with care and the proper tools and materials, could make this installation, it is not recommended that he try it. There is also the likelihood that local regulations will not permit the amateur to make actual connections with a municipal sewage system.

The safest and surest course would be to hire a competent like plumber and to watch as the installation is made to see that your planned layout is followed. This section will outline what are considered to be correct procedures and safeguards. It is hardly necessary to stress that judgment in the selection of materials will ensure an efficient lived sewer.

Cast iron pipe is usually suggested for house sewers, though vitrified clay piping has proved more than adequate in many cases. Platic could also be an option. Clay is less expensive initially, but it lacks the strength and wearing quality of iron. Clay pipe is also subject to weakening from tree-root pressure. However, in soil containing cinders or ashes, clay will not deteriorate as will iron.

Entry into the public sewer generally must be made under supervision of an inspector from the local health authority. Main sewers are usually about 10 feet under the street grade. The hole through which you intend to connect your house sewer is made well above the flow line of the main sewer so that your house sewer will connect at an angle of 45. The main sewer wall is pierced carefully with a small hole at the desired point so that the wall of the main sewer will not crack or fall away. The small hole is then enlarged until it can admit your terminal pipe link.

Once this hole is the proper size, measure the main sewer's wall thickness and cut a sleeve of the pipe used to that size so that it can be cemented in place.

Place it so that its inner rim is flush with the interior sewer wall and so some of the sleeve extends up from the main sewer. This will prevent the sleeve and the first section of your house sewer from separating if there should be an underground shift of either, and it also avoids impeding the flow within the main sewer itself.

In most cases the entry of the house sewer into the main sewer is made in a long sweeping curve rather than at a sharp angle. The over-all angle should be the already suggested 45

The pipe section is inserted into the sleeve, which has been firmly secured and cemented into place so that it will not shift.

This type of connection is made in the main sewers of either the concrete or brick type. If the main sewer is of vitrified clay, an entire section of it may be removed and replaced with a Y-fitted section, unless the main sewer is already supplied with Y fittings at regular intervals along the line.

Having determined the material from which the sewer will be made, and having made the proper main sewer connection, it is now time to lay the pipe to the house at a pitch which will permit proper discharge. The diameter of your house sewer pipe should be checked with local authorities. Generally it should be 4" diameter if iron or copper is used and 6" if clay pipe is selected.
