GENEVA Demolition of the former Cetron factory building began Monday, city officials said.
Demolition is expected to take several weeks at the site of the former factory at 715 Hamilton St., Geneva. Richards Street will be closed from Hamilton to Peyton streets during construction hours, officials said.
According to the demolition permit, Property Recycling Service Corp of North Aurora is doing the work for $128,000. The property owner is the Marquette Companies of Naperville, also according to the permit.
The Marquette Companies proposed to build a five-story, multi-use building with a parking structure. The former Cetron factory had made light bulbs.
The complex would include 140 single-room units, 60 two-room units, 6,500 square feet of retail and restaurant space, and 300 parking spaces, officials said. The company had a formal concept review at a Committee of the Whole meeting in summer 2014, but no final action has been taken, officials said.

A view of the demolition of Candlestick Park with the 1970s-era addition to the stadium in the process of coming down. (Ron Cervi)
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) There was a time when the popular preference for doing away with Candlestick Park was for a spectacular implosion, much like has been done with other stadiums with the signature moment captured in videos and photos.
However, with the decision to dismantle the Stick piece-by-piece instead of in one fell swoop, the slow-motion disintegration is providing many moments and images to record as longtime fans reflect on end of the Candlestick era.
As March comes to an end, the demolition of the stadium recalls the days some 45 years ago, when the construction was under way to enclose the open-ended stadium to accommodate the 49ers, who ended their run at Kezar Stadium with the end of the 1970 season.
One drone pilot also got an up-close look at the demolition; paired with the Journey song Lights another fan favorite and the effect could be tear-jerking for the legions of former Candlestick denizens.
The contractor estimates the demolition to be complete by May to make way for a development project that will include a hotel, shopping center and residential units.

ARDMORE, OK -- The demolition of an unsightly Ardmore landmark that has stood for more than 40 years began Monday.
Crews began tearing down the Chickasaw Towers this afternoon.
Built in 1973, the towers helped the city meet the need for low income housing.
Since the building is on tribal land, the Chickasaw Nation has final say as to what will take it's place.
Tribe leaders say demolition will take two to four weeks.

CARLISLE, Pa. -- A Cumberland County town wants to give you more options when it comes to dining downtown. They are exploring adding outside dining in place of some borough parking spots. The areas designated would be right in front of the establishment.
On Wednesday, a pitch will be made to allow restaurants to rent one or two parking spots and use them for seating. Other towns have used the same model. They are called temporary parklets or dining decks.
"You can either have the dining tables on the parking sidewalk, and if you do that that means people will walk around onto the deck, or you can do where they have a dining on the deck and people continue walking through," borough manager Matt Candland explains.
Parking spots would be rented by the establishment, and looked at on a case by case basis. For restaurants there would also be the cost of buying the decks. Diners we spoke with hope the outdoor option is served up soon.
"I think it's an excellent idea we have amazing dining choices here to have the outside added to that would be wonderful. I came from Chicago where outdoor dining is a hugely popular option. I think it would only benefit the restaurants in downtown," Josh Eisenberg said.
Caroline Kapustynski is a student at Dickinson College. She says it created a lively atmosphere where she's from.
The downtown Carlisle association supports the initiative. If accepted, the outdoor dining options could be instituted before the end of the year.
