Tall Building Design and Construction (for architects and engineers)
This is my basic design for skyscrapers. It #39;s the type of building I #39;d feel comfortable living and working in. And ... it #39;s cheap ... relatively speaking.

‘Architects For Animals’ Gives Shelter To Street Cats In New York - January 14, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

New York (CBSNewYork) This is no dog house.

According to the Mayors Alliance for New York Citys Animals, there are as many as a million homeless animals living on the streets of New York, most of them cats. For the third year, Architects for Animals held its annual Giving Shelter fundraiser on Thursday, January 10th at Manhattans Steelcage Showroom to help those community cats brave the elements and survive the freezing temperatures.

The event benefited the Mayors Alliance NYC Feral Cat Initiative, a not for profit organization committed to solving New York Citys feral cat overpopulation crisis through the humane, non-lethal method of Trap-Neuter-Return, or TNR for short.

Top city architectural design firms built creative outdoor winter shelters, participated in a friendly competition and then donated the cat houses to volunteers who care for these animals. These caregivers ensure the cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, left-eartipped to identify them as having been spayed or neutered, and provide daily with food and water, and medical care when needed.

Watch video from Architects For Animals in the latest edition of All For Animals with 1010 WINS Anchor Susan Richard:

This years participating architectural teams included H3 Hardy Collaborative Architecture, Francis Cauffman Architects, M. Moser Associates, Callison Barteluce, Stonehill & Taylor Architects along with a team of students from City College, Zimmerman Workshop, Kathryn Walton of The American Street Cat (TASC) and Pilot Projects Design Collective.

Three young architects win awards for real-life scenario - January 13, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

BEDFORD - The New Hampshire chapter of the American Institute of Architects named three winners of its Intern/Young Architect Design Competition after asking competitors to address a real-life scenario, a building located in the village of West Swanzey named Whitcomb Hall.

The historic building, which has a prominent location in the village, has been vacant since 1988. At a recent Plan NH Charrette, the planning team recommended that the Whitcomb Hall building should become a premier, for-profit event facility that serves the southwest region of the state. The facility should be capable of hosting events from 10 to 250 people, with a plan that allows for flexible use and multiple configurations of the space.

First place was awarded to Adam Lemire of LineSync Architecture in Wilmington, Vt., for his practical details and multi-purpose design that enhanced the user experience while preserving the overall character of Whitcomb Hall.

Second place was awarded to Jennifer Hegarty, associate AIA member, of Litchfield, and an employee at Watershed Studio Architecture in White River Junction, Vt. "This proposed solution represented the most functional use of space with a large portion of the addition to the west adding much needed square footage to the main hall on the ground floor," the AIA said in a news release.

Third place was awarded to Adam Holmes AIA, PDT Architects of Portland, Maine. The jurors liked the use of the plan and addition as it opened itself up to the west lawn. They especially liked the execution of the new lobby to the north of the building, which incorporated large expanses of glass to connecting to the new and old additions. Historic centre of Saint Petersburg-public domain. Our job is to keep this legacy, but create a comfortable urban environment for residents of St. Petersburg .

The document caused a serious questions, in particular, theres nothing about the restoration of monuments, but there is a lot of maneuvering and fund the construction of dwelling houses in the suburbs for people resettled from 570 communal apartments.

Architects vie to put train station on map

10:30am Friday 11th January 2013 in News By Katriona Ormiston

ARCHITECTS are set to design the revamp of Oxford railway station.

Plans to appoint an architect to redesign the station have been agreed by Oxford City Council and Network Rail.

Councillor Jean Fooks said a competition was being run by the Royal Institute of British Architects for the best design for the station.

She said: It is very exciting there will be an architect to design the station. That doesnt happen to stations generally so its great news.

The plans for the railway in Oxford look really good, but clearly you have to look at the effects of increasing traffic on people who live nearby.

The masterplan for Oxfords rail future was greeted with enthusiasm by residents at a meeting on Wednesday.

More than 100 people packed into a crowded room at Oxford Town Hall to hear the proposals.

Network Rail principal strategic planner for the western region, Chris Aldridge, said plans were to make Oxford a central hub for the UKs railways.
