NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) The Barclays Center is going green. Literally.

To complement its famous rust-colored structure, a green mat-like plant will soon carpet the roof of the Brooklyn arena, CBS 2s Tony Langford reported.

Workers will install agreen plant called sedum, just like what already can be found on top of the transit entrance outside Barclays, the home of the Brooklyn Nets and future home of the New York Islanders.

When you think about residents that live around Central Park and look out to a beautiful green amenity, we like to think that this roof is going to be such an amenity for the thousands of people that end up living at Atlantic Yards, said Ashley Cotton, senior vice president of external affairs atForest City Ratner Companies, the developer that co-owns the arena.

But how exactly do you plant greenery on top of an arena?

Forest City Ratner said the building already has the structural support to handle thenatural toupe.

Therell be a second roof so there will actually be a gap of space between the existing roof that Brooklynites have been seeing for two years now and another roof, and the planting will be done on (top of) that, Cotton said.

Installation of the roof lawn will begin this year. And once planted, itwill not need to be watered.

An insulation industry member was told 'not to rock the boat' when he warned Australian government bureaucrats about the safety risks inherent in its home insulation scheme.

Insulation Council of Australia and New Zealand (ICANZ) member Peter Ruz has told a royal commission the issue was effectively swept under the carpet by senior bureaucrats devising the insulation scheme.

Mr Ruz felt uncomfortable when he raised the electrocution deaths of three New Zealand installers during a meeting between industry representatives and public servants on February 18, 2009.

'We had been told not to rock the boat during these meetings,' he told the inquiry.

'I was seen to be rocking the boat.'

The NZ men died while using metal staples to secure foil installation in a program similar to the pink batts scheme.

But Mr Ruz said bureaucrats didn't want to discuss the merits of different insulation products at the meeting because they didn't want any 'squabbles' between insulation representatives.

'We were all discouraged from getting bogged down about talking about specific products,' he said.

Mr Ruz said he also tried to warn bureaucrats about the NZ deaths outside the meeting.

He claims he emailed senior environment department staffer Beth Brunoro and even provided her with photocopies of newspaper articles about the NZ deaths.

The Schauerhamer family of Castle Rock, Colorado, won for their entry. The installation occurred Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the Schauerhamer home.

This was a good experience for the company, said Sloanes owner Scott Alban. Were considering doing more promotions like this in the future and were likely to focus increasingly on helping charities and nonprofits our community.

The winning story submitted by the Schauerhamers provided a light, humorous and relatable focus on the inevitable wear and tear borne by carpet resting beneath the feet of a growing family:

"If any carpet has been put to the test, it is ours. For the last ten years it has been beaten and abused by four kids. It has been through art projects, backyard muddy messes, 'creative' wall painting, potty training and sick kids. This carpet really deserves to be put out of its misery!"
