Conklin Bros Announces the Launch of its Informative and Educational Flooring Guide - March 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

San Jose, Ca (PRWEB) March 19, 2014

Conklin Bros, a company that offers high quality flooring San Jose CA home and business owners can rely on, is proud to announce the launch of their new Conklin Bros Flooring Guide. The educational and helpful guide will feature a series of articles that will offer tips on floor covering, carpet, and more. Over time, the guide will be expanded to include videos made by employees of Conklin Bros, as well as hosting live Google hangouts.

The first article in the newly-released guide features invaluable advice on a topic that can be confusing and even overwhelming at times for many people: how to choose the best type of carpet. As the guide notes, the knowledgeable experts at Conklin Bros understand that a lot of people do not know how to select the correct kind of carpet for their home or office. In addition to causing the home or business owners to feel stressed, it can also lead to them making the wrong decision, and spending their hard-earned money on carpet that wont really work for their needs.

As the new guide explains, the first thing people need to decide is where the carpet will go and what applications will be required of it will help shoppers select the right type of carpet.

Next, the guide advises people to take an honest look at their home or office, and decide if the rooms are high or low traffic.

For rooms such as bedrooms and home offices typically require low-traffic carpeting, the guide noted, adding that hallways, dens, living rooms, and children's play areas usually require high-traffic carpet. Along these same lines, customers must also decide how much stain or pet waste resistance their carpet will require; for example, home owners with young kids and puppies will fair better with carpet brands such as Karastan's SmartStrand (R).

The guide also offers valuable advice about the five common types of carpet texture: Frieze, Plush, Saxony, Berber and Textured. For example, while a carpet like Berber lies low and flat, plush is much softer but shows wear and tear more easily. No matter what type of carpet their customers select, when it comes to carpet installation San Jose CA Conklin Bros provides expert and friendly service.

Anybody who would like to learn more about Conklin Bros is welcome to visit the companys user-friendly website at any time; there, they can read the new guide in its entirety, as well as browse through the companys selection of products and services.

Peter Robinson presents a major new installation for The Dow - March 17, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Acclaimed New Zealand sculptor Peter Robinson presents a major new installation for The Dowse.

Audiences are invited to take part to create a series of colourful felt sticks in the gallery, bringing together conceptual minimalism with craft traditions.

Following on from Robinson's major piece for the Auckland Triennial, If You Were To Work Here: The Mood At The Museum, this follow-up exhibition continues the artist's recent interest in bringing together strangers to co-create with him. On opening day the gallery floor will be filled with a carpet of hundreds of small felt rings, while a stack of coloured aluminium rods stand by. Visitors are encouraged to select a rod and feed rings on to it, creating a unique felt stick.

Robinson has always been simultaneously a materialist and a conceptualist, weaving complex ideas into the most spectacular manipulations of fabric, felt, wax, or plastic. He is the artist who wrangled six tonnnes of expanded polystyrene foam so it wound its way through an entire gallery, the glare of light coming off so much white it was as blinding as its title, Snowball, Blind Time, suggested.

Werner Braun: Sustainability from a facility managers perspective - March 14, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Sustainability means different things to different people, but from the facility managers perspective, sustainability can be viewed somewhat like a three-legged stool: a stool that balances specifications, installation and maintenance.

Theres no question that targeting the correct specifications choosing the right carpet for the right space should be the first step in the process. Determining what type of carpet will look best, wear best and cost best (be economically sustainable) over time should be the initial priority.

The first step in that process is to clearly define the type of facility for which you are specifying carpet and outline the specific requirements of that facility.

To do that effectively, its important to consider how long the carpet will be used, the amount of foot traffic that will be generated, the types of dirt that may be tracked in, whether the area is a remodel or a new installation and whether there is modular furniture in the space.

While that may seem like a challenge, the good news is that todays carpet offers a wide variety of choices in style, fiber composition and color, whether you are specifying broadloom for a corporate office, carpet tiles for an elementary school or plush carpet for a boutique hotel.

And over the past few decades, technology has given us multilevel loop and cut-loop patterns that allow diamond, bow and fleur-de-lis designs that pop out in sculptured effects, giving us so many more choices than the standard loop pile of the past.

The second important leg of the stool is proper installation. Carpet should be installed properly and efficiently to avoid waste and to maximize the life of the carpet.

Carpet installation must be properly planned, estimated and coordinated. The installation plan must include accurate measurements, show seam placement and detail areas requiring special considerations, such as unusual room shapes, closets, borders, etc.

Installation specifiers should provide drawings with the approved location of seams, edge moldings, carpet direction and accessories, such as adhesives and cushions.

Facility managers need to make sure that the surface upon which the carpet is to be installed is appropriate, by confirming concrete moisture and alkali conditions, cleanliness and surface quality, including floor levelness. A building contractor should also set appropriate room temperatures 48 hours prior to installation at 65 to 95 degrees and provide ventilation during and 48 to 72 hours after installation.

Yarbrough named CRI president - March 14, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

After a rough half decade, the carpet industry has begun to bounce back, and Joe Yarbrough said he looks forward to helping it grow.

Yarbrough, Mohawk Industries senior vice president for advanced manufacturing engineering, was named Thursday as the next president of the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI), a non-profit trade group based in downtown Dalton, by the groups board of directors. He will replace Werner Braun, who is retiring March 31 after 14 years at CRI.

Ive spent 44 years in the carpet and rug industry, and Ive spent a significant amount of time working with the Carpet and Rug Institute in the last couple of decades, especially the last four years, Yarbrough said. With Werners retirement and given the stage I am at in my career it made sense for me to look to serve as the leader of the Carpet and Rug Institute.

Yarbrough said the CRIs mission is to support its members.

With the investments we have seen in the industry, I think it is poised for a strong comeback, he said. Well have the opportunity to assist the entire industry with the issues it will face from increased regulatory activities to efforts to increase the sustainability of our products. We have some opportunities to help the industry.

The carpet industry was hit especially hard by the recession. A slumping housing market led to lower demand for floorcovering and manufacturers reacted by closing plants, reducing shifts and laying off employees.

Yarbrough came to Dalton in 1972 and spent six years in various positions with Coronet Industries. He joined Aladdin Mills in June 1978 as director of manufacturing. Aladdin Mills merged with Calhoun-based Mohawk Industries in February 1994.

Yarbrough has been very active in community groups and currently serves on the board of commissioners of the Water, Light and Sinking Fund Commission (Dalton Utilities board of directors) as well as the state board of the Technical College System of Georgia, where he serves as chairman.

With his 40-plus years of carpet industry experience, Joe brings an unprecedented array of knowledge, experience and insight regarding our customers, markets and opportunities, said David Jolly, president and CEO of J+J Flooring Group and current CRI board chairman.

Texas Rangers investigate allegations of embezzlement at Seagoville City Hall - March 11, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    NEWS 8 INVESTIGATES

SEAGOVILLE -- Citizens rallied outside the Seagoville Economic Development Corporation office Monday night for full disclosure in city government.

Inside, a controversy was being discussed that until now has been kept quiet.

At issue is an audit, completed last October but only recently shared with Seagoville City Council, alleging that former head of the development corporation, Rebecca Roberts, had dummied invoices and written checks using taxpayer money that she later used to pay personal bills.

The audit alleges 52 improper transactions, totaling nearly $70,000 over three years. The money was allegedly used to pay her personal American Express bills, her HSBC credit card, house rental payments, and a $6,331 Home Depot tab for installation for carpet.

It's hard to tell the address of the carpet installation because that information was redacted from the report, and Seagoville Mayor Harold Magill is not happy.

"By keeping that audit report redacted and not bringing it to the council's attention, to me, it appears like a cover up," Magill said.

Advice about dealing with big box stores - March 7, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

BRECKSVILLE, OH - A woman from Brecksville was just beside herself after she said she kept getting the cold shoulder from Lowe's about carpet installation. She contacted the 5 On Your Side Solutions Center for help after two months went by and no customer satisfaction.

Joni Robinson moved into her Brecksville condo four years ago and had brand new carpet installed by Lowe's. She was happy with the carpet when it was done initially. I loved the carpet and had no problems at that point," Robinson told us.

Fast forward about a year and a half, Robinson said she started noticing big wrinkles in the carpet. She called Lowe's and they came out to fix the problems. She told us she did some research and realized that the installers didn't use a power stretcher during the initial installation. "I kind of thought that was where (the wrinkles were) coming from, but thought that maybe it was a one-time deal and we would be over and done with," said Robinson.

But after that first stretching, about a year-and-a-half later more problems show up with the carpet and more stretching needed to be done.

Robinson said she called Lowe's over and over and got no response. She finally got a call saying she would have to pay for someone to come out and fix it. At her wits end she contacted us. We then called Lowe's corporate headquarters about the carpet. Then Robinson's phone rang.

"Three phone calls of We're so sorry. We stand behind our product. We know there was a problem and you are 100% correct," said Robinson.

Now an installer is set to come out to Robinsons condo.

"I want to say thank you, said Robinson. Thank you very much for stepping in and making them listen to the fact that there was a problem. And that they need to come out and take care of it, she added.

Lowe's was quick to respond to Robinson's problem after we got involved and they tell us they will address the carpet issues.

On your side advice: When you deal with a big box store, ask who the installer will be and that way you can do your own research about the contractor.
