Dining decks have returned to the Main Street streetscape.
The Park City Council approved agreements with nine restaurants allowing them to operate dining decks on the street. The dining decks debuted in 2010 and have proven popular as an al fresco alternative for customers.

Another restaurant, Silver, has filed paperwork for a dining deck. City Hall staffers are reviewing the application.
The decks must be removed by Oct. 30. City Hall charges the restaurants $550 per parking spot lost to a deck.
Francisco Astorga, a City Hall planner assigned to the dining deck applications, said state alcohol regulators in the future could tighten the rules regulating alcohol service across a sidewalk. The restaurants have been worried about a tightening of the rules, Astorga said.
The restaurants and leaders on Main Street see the decks, which are often packed, as being attractive to diners. They were introduced as a way to increase Main Street's competitiveness with other shopping, dining and entertainment districts. Some restaurants along Main Street already had patios offering al fresco dining, but the dining decks provided the opportunity to other places.

Raleigh, N.C. Raleigh City Council members are exploring the possibility of charging on nights and weekends for parking in the city-owned parking decks.
Staff on Monday presented some revenue projections if city officials opted to charge a flat $5 fee at night and on the weekends, when the decks are at capacity.
Parking in the city-owned decks is currently free after 7 p.m. and on the weekends, with the exception of special events. City data shows that Thursday through Saturday, the decks are often full, with the majority of drivers coming in after 10 p.m. and leaving after last call.
It would cost the city about $385,000 to install machines to accept payments electronically, instead of hiring someone to work at the exit booth during the overnight hours. City parking staff estimated the city could generate between $900,000 and $1 million.
The parking enterprise fund has been in a deficit since its inception, but the deficit has been slowly shrinking and now sits at $500,000. The general fund provides the additional funding to cover the gap.
Charlotte, Wilmington and Asheville all charge for off-street parking for nights and weekends.
Councilor Wayne Maiorano, who made the information request, said he was generally not in favor of increasing fees. But, he said, the city could be spending more to upkeep the decks. Parking on the evenings and weekends has historically been free to stimulate growth downtown.
Councilors didnt make any decisions and expressed mixed concern.

Raleigh city leaders mull night, weekend parking fees
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday paved the way for Indian Forest Service (IFoS) officer Bharat Lal to join the Prime Ministers Office (PMO) as a joint secretary.
The DoPT issued a circular to announce the empanelment of 29 officers of the IFoS batch of 1988 for appointment to the posts of joint secretary or its equivalent. These officers include Bharat Lal, Gujarats resident commissioner in the national capital for the past four years.
Lal is a Gujarat cadre officer and considered close to Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi. Bureaucratic sources said it was rare for an IFoS officer to serve in the PMO in the capacity of a joint secretary. Top PMO jobs have historically remained with Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers with one Indian Foreign Service officer to help with foreign affairs.
Apart from Lal, Modis PMO is also likely to have Gujarat cadre IAS officer A K Sharma as a joint secretary. Sharma also belongs to the 1988 batch.
Others already appointed to the PMO are National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval, who has replaced Shivshankar Menon. Last week, former Telecom Regulatory Authority of India chairman Nripendra Misra was appointed the principal secretary to the PM. S Jaishankar, Indias former ambassador to Beijing, is likely to be the foreign policy advisor in the PMO.
