Bangalore: Decks cleared for Yeddyurappa's return to BJP
Bangalore, Jan 2 (PTI): Decks were today cleared for the merger of B S Yeddyurappa-led Karnataka Janata Paksha with BJP as the two parties took steps to formalise their union.
After the Karnataka BJP core committee met, state party chief Prahlad Joshi said, "There is absolute consensus (about the entry of Yeddyurappa). There is no problem.
Unanimously the state unit has decided that we have to fight (Lok Sabha) election together."
The merger moves had gathered steam in recent weeks, with Yeddyurappa giving clear indications that it was only a matter of time before his return to BJP whose state leaders also got the green signal from the party top brass.
"KJP should merge with BJP, so that unitedly we can fight, because of the division of anti-Congress vote in last Assembly elections both of us have suffered, we don't want to repeat it again," Joshi added.

Bangalore, Jan 2, 2014 (PTI)
Decks were today cleared for the merger of B S Yeddyurappa-led Karnataka Janata Paksha with BJP as the two parties took steps to formalise their union.
KJP had garnered six seats and 10 per cent vote share in the May 8 Assembly polls playing spoiler to the then ruling BJP, which lost its first ever government in the South. KJP had failed to make a big impact as an independent force.
Noting that state unit was unanimous on induction of Yeddyurappa, Joshi said, "He has already declared that he is ready to join BJP, which state unit has whole heartedly welcomed."
To a question whether Yeddyurappa will be given any formal invitation, he said, "He has already declared that he is joining BJP, we are formally meeting (him) that's all." On criticism by Congress and other opponents on re-induction of Yeddyurappa, Joshi said "... when allegations were made against him (Yeddyurappa) through some agency, then president of BJP and our central unit took a decision that when there are serious charges, he should not remain in position."
But, he said, the party never took a stand that he should not remain in the BJP. To a question on delay despite unanimity on Yeddyurappa's induction, Joshi said, "Our central unit was supposed to clear all these things; yesterday it told us to formally meet and discuss his (Yeddyurappa's) re-entry into the party and merger of KJP and BJP. "As soon as we got the clearance from the central unit, we are moving ahead."

The decks were cleared for the re-entry of the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa into the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday, with key members of the partys highest decision-making body of the core committee holding formal discussions with him on several issues, including the modalities of merging his Karnataka Janata Paksha with the BJP.
Sources in the BJP said such a process had been taken up after the party central leadership gave the green signal to his re-inclusion. The meeting between Mr. Yeddyurappa and BJP leaders, which took place after a gap of more than one year, is also being seen as an effort to break the ice.
The meeting was held at a star hotel in the city and was attended by BJP core committee members Ananth Kumar, Pralhad Joshi, Jagadish Shettar and K.S. Eshwarappa. The meeting was preceded by separate meetings of the BJPs core committee and political affairs committee.
The leaders also decided to take up a joint tour of the State as part of the preparations for the coming Lok Sabha elections.
Mr. Yeddyurappa, who led the party to its first victory in the State in 2008 and became the Chief Minister, had turned a rebel after the party leadership forced him to step down following his indictment in the Karnataka Lokayuktas report on illegal mining. He quit the party in November 2012 and became the State president of the KJP after the BJP took a stand of not giving him any top position till he was cleared of the cases related to alleged corruption.
Meanwhile, the BJP has decided to stage a Statewide protest on January 6, against the inclusion of D.K. Shivakumar and R. Roshan Baig who are facing various charges into the Ministry.
Briefing presspersons after the core committee meeting, BJP State president Pralhad Joshi said party workers would sport black badges on that day at all the district centres.
The BJP Yuva Morcha would protest against the increase in the price of non-subsidised cooking gas on Friday, while the partys Mahila Morcha would register their protest on January 8 at all the Assembly constituencies, he said.
Meanwhile, the party has decided to hold consultations with the core committees of its district units on January 9 and 10 to decide the first list of candidates for the LS elections. The names of candidates would be recommended to the party national election committee by January 15 or 16, he said.
The party will also launch a door-to-door campaign from January 15 to 30 as part of its poll campaign. During this process, the party will take up a drive to include new names in the electoral rolls, he said.

ORLANDO, Fla. -
From their gear to the food on the grill, fans brought their very best to the Citrus Bowl on Wednesday.
The New Year's Day matchup between No. 8 Gamecocks and No. 19 Badgers is the last bowl game in the 70-year-old facility.
The Citrus Bowl is getting a $210 million overhaul, according to Steve Hogan, CEO of Florida Citrus Sports.
"Everything that you see below these two upper decks, including the ramp ways is going to be gone, scrapped away and built anew below," he said.
Hogan says the concourses, isles, seats, everything that an NFL facility has, will be in Orlando.
Once construction is complete, he hopes the stadium will be the spot for a future National Championship game.
"When you look at how our community sets up, access to hotels, the quality of inventory, high and low, the airport, the proximity to downtown and the stadium, we have the perfect set up of any city really in America to host a national championship," he said.
Gamecock fan Jason Hubbard says even after the improvements to the stadium, he feels the neighborhood around the Citrus Bowl will need some new restaurants and bars, to support the crowds that come along with big games.
"The area would need to be able to support that sort of excitement- these games bring in people for 3, 4 days, they practically live out here, especially a national championship game," he said.
