Seamless Gutters – Gutter Installation in New Jersey … - April 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Our seamless gutters, which are uncoiled and manufactured at your home to fit exactly, are the best for residential homeowners. The reason seamless gutters are such an advancement is that the only seams are at the corners so, with fewer joints, the long term chances of leaks are significantly reduced. In addition, seamless gutters provide greater strength and look far better than sectional gutters. And, whereas the old, traditional gutters were usually made of iron or galvanized steel, which tended to rust and wear out quickly, seamless aluminum gutters are lighter and better able to withstand the weight of the water flowing through the gutter troughs.

Gutters are one of the most important aspects of any construction. Their importance lies in the fact that, without a good water trough system, there wont be proper drainage. This will create continuous erosion of soil, underminethe foundation of the building, rot wood, and damage the building and property. Also, seepage of water into the walls of your home can cause terrible mold problems and major costs that can be avoided with a good gutter system.

Ensurethe long term value of your home: dont overlook the value of a well maintained gutter system!

A prime consideration for an efficient gutter system is the number, and placement, of downspouts, which carry water from the gutters to the ground. The staff of NJ Gutter understands that homeowners generally prefer, for aesthetic reasons, to minimize the number of downspouts and use their expert knowledge to calculate and conceal the optimal amount of downspouts for your home.

There are many decisions to be made when installing gutters and you can rest assured that NJ Gutter will expertly guide you through the process, fully explain every facet of what is needed, and thoroughly answer every one of your questions. We pride ourselves as the leader in the field for over 20 years, have the best reputation for customer satisfaction, take pride in our workmanship, have very competitive pricing, and offer the best guarantee.

Elgin streets and water work set for Garden Crescent/Royal Street area - April 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    By Mike Danahey mdanahey@stmedianetwork.com @DanaheyECN April 1, 2014 5:06PM

ELGIN A $2.7 million infrastructure project will begin this spring in the Garden Crescent/Royal Street neighborhood on the citys west side.

The city council recently awarded the contract for the work to Orange Crush, LLC of Hinsdale as part of its ongoing Neighborhood Street Rehabilitation Program, which has been around since the 1980s.

The area covered by this project was mostly developed in the 1960s and 1970s and includes Garden Crescent from Wing Street to Royal Boulevard; Royal Boulevard from North McLean to Abbott; Adeline Avenue; Royal Court and Clayton Avenue. In addition, Abbott Drive and Getzelman Drive will be completed after the water department replaces water main under these streets in June.

The work will include the removal and replacement of curb and gutter, sidewalk and drive approaches, the repair of pavement base, pavement grinding and new riding surface of three inches of new bituminous concrete. The project will cover about 2.10 miles of streets and also will include replacing about 1,400 linear feet of deficient storm sewer and minor repairs to sanitary sewers.

In addition to the construction component, advertising and design engineering costs of $234,530 were incurred and construction administration costs of $345,000 will be paid.

Coordinated with the above work, the city council also recently awarded a $748,698 contract for water main replacement along Abbott Drive and Getzelman Drive to J. Congdon Sewer Service, Inc. of Carol Stream.

According to supporting material seeking bid approval, there is a history of a high amount of water main breaks along Abbott Drive and Getzelman Drive, within the street rehabilitation area.

The project will include the replacement of failing water mains with the installation of a 12-inch diameter ductile iron water main along Abbott Drive and an 8-inch diameter ductile iron water main along Getzelman Drive, and replacement of the fire hydrants, valve and services along the route. This project also includes restoration to the pavement and landscape areas affected by the construction. The total length of water main to be replaced is about 3,500 feet.

The Abbott and Getzelman water main project will begin as early as later this week, and is scheduled to be completed in June, Water Operations Engineer Eric Weiss said.

Dexter Fowler wasnt gritty enough to be the Rockies center fielder - March 25, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

All this time I thought they played baseball games and then I read this from Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post and find out that Jiminy Christmas! theyre wrestling in gutters!

Thats how Kiszla puts it, anyway, after acknowledging that the Rockies have a hole in center field now that they traded away Dexter Fowler. But never fear: its fighting time:

The Rockies, however, are better off without Fowler.

My choice to play center: Corey Dickerson. You want the Rockies to bring a dirt-bag attitude that can wrestle with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the gutter, then Dickerson is your center fielder.

Kiszla can be forgiven, however, in that hes merely following Walt Weiss lead:

In our sport, more than any other sport, the ability to compete and grind and play with grit is extremely important, because we have to play at the highest level virtually every day for seven months. Theres no other sport like that, Weiss said Monday. The ability to compete through difficult circumstances and still believe you can play up here even when you get beat up by the game The self doubt, even though it does creep in, if you can deal with that and still succeed, its the X factor.

I have no doubt that attitude is a big factor in dealing with a long grind of a season. But if Dickerson couldnt hit the cover off the ball which he did in the minors, at least all the grit in the world isnt going to help him help the Rockies win baseball games. And if he cant handle center field, as opposed to his natural position in left, he can grind all he wants. Hell just be grinding two or three steps short of those balls in the gap which are his responsibility to track down.

Absent extreme attitude deficiencies, which Fowler has never been reported to have, what Dickerson does or Fowler could have done to help the Rockies win are functions of baseball skill and performance, not their gritty-grinding-gutter-wrestling-ways. But hey, if it helps people accept the trade of an otherwise effective player and the installation of a guy who may not be able to handle the position, well, any cliches at hand, I suppose.

Residents fear tree damage with Kirven Avenue project - March 24, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Residents on Kirven Avenue arent happy about incoming sidewalks that might damage several trees at least 50 years old, especially after workers dug trenches near the trees more than once.

The sidewalk is part of the Kirven Avenue Neighborhood Reconstruction project that started in September 2013. This project included the replacement of the existing curb and gutter, the existing street pavement, the storm drainage system, the water and sewer systems and the installation of a new sidewalk. Construction expands through Kirven from W. Marvin Avenue to Sycamore Avenue.

Plan for detours: major construction begins - March 23, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Residents will need to plan around a major construction project taking place on East Teton Boulevard.

The project, costing $2.57 million, started Monday and encompasses the replacement of the street surface as well as curb, gutter and sidewalk installation from Monroe Avenue to Astle Avenue. Storm drains will also be placed as part of the improvement project. The money paying for the work comes from the sixth-penny tax approved in 2012 and is part of the citys first year of sixth-penny projects.

While the project was under discussion two weeks ago at the Green River City Council meeting, public works department employee Mark Westenskow told the council that only one side of the street is scheduled to receive a sidewalk placement. However, because the city received a good bid for the work, Westenskow says enough money may be left to for sidewalk placement for the other side of the street.

If things go well, we may be able to get some sidewalk on the other side, Westenskow said.

A number of city-owned facilities are located within the projects boundaries. Access to the citys public works building, recycling center, fire department training tower, animal control facility, rodeo arena and wastewater treatment facility will be impacted during the construction work, though detours will be available.

A detour through the Veterans Park on Monroe Ave. provides access to public works, rodeo arena, recycling center and training tower while an detour near the animal control building will lead to the horse corrals, waste water treatment facility, RV dump and the citys water salesman. Additionally, work will stop during the Overland State Stampede Rodeo, which takes place June 6 and 7.

Lewis and Lewis, the contractor for the project, has six months to complete the work, however a memo from the citys public works department states the project is expected to conclude in early July.

State Street update: City, Crestline host status meeting on Wednesday - March 23, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Dust, pedestrian access, and signage issues, and the potential of summer street work, are among the topics expected to be addressed on Wednesday in a morning meeting about the downtown Urban Renewal Project.

The community is invited to attend the meeting, at 8 a.m. at City Hall, Second and State streets.

City Public Works and representatives of the contractor, Crestline Construction, will give a project status update and listen to concerns, according to Gary Lindemyer, project inspector with public works.

The city will provide information on important dates and on the planned construction of public restrooms at Third and State streets.

Work will start soon on the restrooms, for which the city has budgeted $220,000 from the Urban Renewal budget.

The city and contractor will also discuss the possibility of continuing sidewalk work through the summer.

The way it is now, we wont finish the curb and gutters west to Sixth Street, by June 1, the contractual deadline completing the work, Lindemeyer said.

The contractor is only allowed to have minimal activity during the summer months, and we have always interpreted minimal activity to include curb and gutter and doing sidewalk work, but we want to make sure we get input from the businesses that are affected before we continue that work, Lindemyer said.

No streets would be closed, and were looking at working on a block at a time and only one side of the street at a time, during summer curb and gutter work, he said.

The alternative is to delay until after Labor Day the installation of the curbs, gutters and sidewalks from Third to Sixth.

Londoners missing snow adopt their own snowmen. Yes, really - March 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Normally, most sane Londoners recognise snow for what it is - a cold, slippery pest that ruins train travel, turns pavements into death traps and eventually lurks in the gutter, grey and melting.

However, a select group of kids and adults in London were today offered a solution to the capital's first snowless winter for 12 years with the launch of a unique 'Adopt a Snowman' pop-up stand that allowed them to walk away with their very own frozen friend.

With temperatures already soaring following the wettest winter on record, the first-of-its-kind installation - located near Covent Garden - ensured snow-lovers didn't miss out on what many consider an important and traditional winter pastime, playing with a snowman.

Visitors to the pop-up left with their own snowman inspired by characters in the Disney movie Frozen, complete with their very own adoption papers and traditional attire. And with the thermometer tipping nearly 20 degrees, each snowman came with an insulated carry case to avoid puddles on the bus.

We're betting that the snowmen didn't last beyond lunchtime. But we hope their owners had a good time with them until they succumbed.

The initiative, which took place on the last day of winter, was created by Walt Disney Home Entertainment to celebrate the upcoming release of the double Academy Award winning filmFrozen.
