AISD board approves several school renovation projects, totaling $3.3 million - May 15, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Alice Independent School District Board of Trustees discussed the renovations to several schools on Monday night.

Vice President from WKMC Architects, Bill Wilson, went before the board and presented the renovations to be done at Alice High School, Mary. R. Garcia Elementary, Hillcrest Elementary, Salazar Elementary and Memorial Intermediate.

I want to report positively that we are very happy with the results that we put three projects out, Wilson said.

At a previous meeting in January, Wilson went before the board and gave an overview of a shopping list of renovations to be done at Memorial Intermediate. They included a new canopy cover at the pick up/drop off area, a covered walkway at the administration building, painting existing canopies, demolish the old wheelchair lift and construct a new covered accessible ramp, place handrails at existing ramps, replace old handrails, a new front door at the campus entrance and replace windows in the gym and classroom wings.

The interior of the school mainly included restroom renovations by rearranging fixtures. The purpose of the renovations to the restrooms is to meet handicap requirements so they will make the doors to the restrooms inboard and knock down the small wall blocking the main door.

The board approved a budget of $1,668,900 for renovations at Memorial and Wilson said they would like to add additional walkways which is an estimated $30,000.

At Salazar Elementary the board approved the construction of two restrooms which is an estimated cost of $298,000. Wilson said they will build covered walkways that will connect to those restrooms which is estimated at $50,000 and the board previously approved $200,000 for any other miscellaneous renovations that need to be done at that school.

If you take the boards previously approved budget amendments plus the items we have added to it...our estimated updated budget estimate at the end of the bidding process was $2,460,900 for this project, Wilson said.

The new restrooms at Salazar Elementary will be 600 square foot with air conditioning and mechanical closet. There will be four stalls and two sinks for each girl restroom and two stalls, two urinals and two sinks for each boy restroom.

Were happy that this project came in a little more than $200,000 less than what the board previously approved even with those additional scopes and work conditions, Wilson said.

Digital Temperature Sensors offer 3 data output options. - May 15, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

The series outstanding performance-cost ratio makes these sensors ideal for automotive and medical applications, and the SMT-compatible package enables the sensors to be used in high volume applications for on-circuit temperature control.

Designed with ease-of-use and flexibility in mind, these fully-calibrated sensors come in three different data output options:

TSYS02D: I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) for integration into digital interface bus systems; TSYS02P: PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) for integration into simple control units; TSYS02S: SDM (Sigma Delta Modulation) for integration into analog circuitries.

The 16-bit temperature sensing resolution combined with the low power and highly accurate characteristics make these sensors cost-effective replacements for thermistors, NTCs (negative temperature coefficients) and RTDs (resistance temperature detectors).

Available in an ultra-compact TDFN8 surface mount package, the TSYS02 measures only 2.5 mm x 2.5 mm, while drawing a maximum of 12.5 A. Operating temperature range is -40C to +125C.

Every TSYS02 is factory-calibrated to provide a high accuracy of 0.2C. Custom calibration is also available to meet specific application needs.

Pricing for a TSYS02 is $1.85 (US) per unit in quantities of 10,000. Delivery time is dependent upon quantity ordered.

AISD Board approve resolution Operation Graduation, five campus improvements By Claudia Garcia cgarcia@aliceechonews.com Alice Echo-News Journal

The Alice Independent School District Board of Trustees have passed a resolution supporting Operation Graduation at their regular meeting on Monday night.

Operation Graduation is scheduled for June 7 right after graduation. The board then went on to approve the 2012-2013 budget amendment #6 which is just transferring funds from one function to another and also agreed to sell the Heidelberg Press for $3,500.

the board then awarded the depository proposal for 2013-2015 biennium to Prosperity Bank and expedited a waiver-timeline for accelerated instruction waiver. An approval for the revised 2013-2014 school calendar was also passed. Administration left out a staff day and decided to place it on Aug. 19 and added a second workshop for Aug. 23.

The board also approved CATV media retrieval at Dubose Intermediate which allows dvd's and cable TV to stream from the library to all the classrooms on campus. The media retrieval was not part of the Teal Contract and so the board had to pay more than $25,000 for the cable.

The board then awarded contracts for improvements at the Alice High School, Mary R. Garcia Elementary, Hillcrest Elementary, Salazar Elementary and Memorial Intermediate. The cost for all projects will be more than $3 million. The improvements include re-roofing, HVAC replacements and building new bathrooms. The board's last action item was a change order 001 Camacho on Dubose project which was also approved.

Informational items included a budget update and a new Dubose Intermediate update, month 20. Project Manager Ray Brown said almost all the furniture for the new campus has almost arrived except a few storage cabinets that have yet to be ordered. Brown said he wanted to wait before ordering those items. Brown then gave a Dubose demolition update, month 3, and said the demo is almost complete, the only thing needed to do is to clear out a truck load of concrete. The board then received the results of the Little Olympics and Junior Olympics.

They then went into executive session and adjourned for the evening.

Youth Center wins funding - May 9, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

ANDOVER Town Meeting voters last night OKd spending $700,000 of a town-controlled trust fund to complete the funding for a new youth center, but not before questions were raised about how the vote affected a prior town agreement.

Voters agreed to break up a $1.4 million trust fund assigning $700,000 to the second phase of construction for the Cormier Family Youth Center and directing the remaining $700,000 to create a stabilization fund for senior programming.

The votes came during a Special Town Meeting scheduled within the second night of Andovers annual Town Meeting. The annual Town Meeting resumes tonight at 7 in the field house at Andover High School, with 23 articles still up for discussion.

Many who spoke on the youth center and senior articles praised both groups for uniting around their cause.

As a member of the Andover Youth Foundation and a senior myself, Im proud of the collaboration the youth had with bringing this together, David Drive resident Michael Miller said. Weve always sought to work with seniors, to try to make a community center.

Sam Kefferstan, 18, of Haverhill Street, spoke in support of both articles as well.

Ive grown up here and lived here for my entire life, he said. My family, and so many others, have donated, and this is exactly what we need to push it over the edge and get shovels into the ground.

After voters almost unanimously supported the senior programming stabilization fund, questions arose regarding the towns agreement with the Andover Youth Foundation and how allotting the additional $700,000 for the youth center would alter that plan.

Finance Committee member Jeannie Moffitt, who opposed the youth center article, said the town had already voted to spend $2 million on the project.

In light of the agreement, the town having agreed to donate $2 million to this project, this was above and beyond the agreement, she said.

This research service provides an in-depth analysis of the North American HVAC equipment market. It is segmented into unitary equipment, applied systems, and chillers. It provides revenue forecasts for the total market and considers the various drivers and restraints that affect the market in North America. In addition, revenue forecasts for each market segment, distribution channel, and vertical markets are provided as is an analysis of the competitive landscape. The study period for this research service is 2009 to 2017; the base year is 2012.

    Executive Summary

The North American heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment market generated revenue of $X billion in 2012, up X percent over the previous year. Although the market declined in 2009 and 2010, it is expected to experience steady growth through 2017the end of the forecast period. By 2017, the market is expected to reach $Xbillion in revenue. The market is forecast to have a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) ofX percent from 2012 to 2017. Safety improvements, repairs top LC-M CISD bond election needs - April 30, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

LITTLE CYPRESS A growing concern for student safety, campus security and repairing and replacing aging facilities is at the top of the LC-M school districts wish list for the proposed bond election.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District will hold a bond election on Saturday, May 11 at Little Cypress Intermediate School, for election precincts 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9, and at Mauriceville Middle School for election precincts 5, 16, 31 and 32. Early voting is being held starting Monday, April 29 through Tuesday, May 7, at the Orange Public Library, LC-M Education Center and Mauriceville Volunteer Fire Department.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School Districts Board of Trustees voted earlier this year to call for a $56 million bond election to help repair, and, in some cases, replace aging facilities throughout the district which were built between 30 to 60 years ago, depending on the campus.

A priority is improving safety at each facility and, if approved, the funds from the bond election will help provide for the construction of secure main entrances at all LC-M CISD campuses. These improvements will be made by connecting buildings together and eliminating exterior walkways between classes.

Our facilities do not meet code or compliance, said Dr. Pauline Hargrove, superintendent of LC-M CISD. Our buildings are not secure. We have several campuses which have been determined to have over 20 entrance and exit points, and one has more than 40.

This bond will allow us to provide secure main entrances and connect buildings, where possible, for better safety, she added. It will correct the existing safety concerns and replace older buildings.

In 2007, the district identified approximately $100 million in repairs and replacements it wanted to make at that time and called for a $40 million bond election in May 2008. It failed by 56 votes.

LC-M CISD has borrowed $4.9 million to make repairs to vital systems such as HVAC and to make energy improvements, but much more funding is needed to handle the work it has estimated needs to be done to correct its current issues.

The vast majority of new construction will be replacement for older buildings or wings which are being torn down, said Greg Perry, assistant superintendent, in a statement. There will be a few new classrooms, but we estimate those to be less than 10 overall. Some of the square footage is not yet defined, and all of the plans are preliminary.

Each campus has its own set of proposed projects, according to initial plans from the bond proposal committee.
