AISD Board approve resolution Operation Graduation, five campus improvements By Claudia Garcia cgarcia@aliceechonews.com Alice Echo-News Journal

The Alice Independent School District Board of Trustees have passed a resolution supporting Operation Graduation at their regular meeting on Monday night.

Operation Graduation is scheduled for June 7 right after graduation. The board then went on to approve the 2012-2013 budget amendment #6 which is just transferring funds from one function to another and also agreed to sell the Heidelberg Press for $3,500.

the board then awarded the depository proposal for 2013-2015 biennium to Prosperity Bank and expedited a waiver-timeline for accelerated instruction waiver. An approval for the revised 2013-2014 school calendar was also passed. Administration left out a staff day and decided to place it on Aug. 19 and added a second workshop for Aug. 23.

The board also approved CATV media retrieval at Dubose Intermediate which allows dvd's and cable TV to stream from the library to all the classrooms on campus. The media retrieval was not part of the Teal Contract and so the board had to pay more than $25,000 for the cable.

The board then awarded contracts for improvements at the Alice High School, Mary R. Garcia Elementary, Hillcrest Elementary, Salazar Elementary and Memorial Intermediate. The cost for all projects will be more than $3 million. The improvements include re-roofing, HVAC replacements and building new bathrooms. The board's last action item was a change order 001 Camacho on Dubose project which was also approved.

Informational items included a budget update and a new Dubose Intermediate update, month 20. Project Manager Ray Brown said almost all the furniture for the new campus has almost arrived except a few storage cabinets that have yet to be ordered. Brown said he wanted to wait before ordering those items. Brown then gave a Dubose demolition update, month 3, and said the demo is almost complete, the only thing needed to do is to clear out a truck load of concrete. The board then received the results of the Little Olympics and Junior Olympics.

They then went into executive session and adjourned for the evening.
