NHK World News ---- Nippon H #333;s #333; Ky #333;kai Description -- A group of Japanese researchers has developed a new type of photocatalytic material that can be activated by indoor lighting. The material is expected to be used in a variety of ways, such as in air cleaners, to help protect homes and offices from harmful bacteria and viruses. Photocatalysts dissolve dirt and kill bacteria through exposure to ultraviolet light. But existing types are less effective indoors, where ultraviolet light is comparatively weak. The team includes researchers from the University of Tokyo. The new material is made using a special process in which copper compounds are attached to existing photocatalysts. The researchers found that when the new material is placed in a room lit by fluorescent lights, more than 99 percent of viruses lost their infectiousness in one hour. They also found that more than 70 percent of bacteria died when the material was attached to the walls of hospital toilets or airport luggage carts. University of Tokyo Professor Kazuhito Hashimoto, who heads the research team, says it is significant that photocatalysts can now be used indoors. Hand Held Video Test Of Indian version of Sony DSC-H100V in Low light with Zoom. Like all budget DSLR look alike, it too suffer on Auto Focus while zooming and panning. But I found it to be better performing then Nikon L810 in similar price bracket. It produced Nice picture in low light, a trademark of Sony digital camera. It is a camera positioned for point and shoot users who like to buy a DSLR look alike camera but are tight on budget. The Hawk Leaves FSEL
This is a juvenile Cooper #39;s hawk that flew into UT/Ferguson Lab some time Wednesday afternoon Oct. 17, 2012. It #39;s assumed this is the first hawk to soar the trusses inside the lab. Like dove which occasionally get trapped in the high bay it instinctively remained as high as possible not aware 20 feet below it could find freedom through one of the large overhead doors. Lab personnel didn #39;t have much success seeking concrete information on guiding the hawk out of the building. The indoor lighting was kept off hoping it would fly to the bright sun light. I observed the raptor and was amazed at its agility navigating all the obstacles fixed to the high bay trusses. The bird flew often when startled by the bridge crane operations and activity on the lab floor. Its flight was fast and stealthy quite. As the day was closing I acknowledged the outcome may be as with many a dove over my years working in the lab. They succumb to dehydration never to set flight again. About 4PM Thursday I decide to run some water on the floor at the north end of the lab hoping the young hawk would fly down for a drink and exit the lab. I also filled a wheel barrow with water.
