Coroner releases Paul Walker’s body to Forest Lawn for funeral - December 12, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Actor Paul Walker's body was released Tuesday by the Los Angeles County coroner's office to Forest Lawn Mortuaries to make arrangements for his final resting place.

Ed Winter, assistant chief of coroner's investigations, said the "Fast & Furious" actor's remains were turned over to Forest Lawn, where many of Hollywood's most famous stars are buried.

Walker, 40, died Nov. 30 from a combination of traumatic injuries and burns after the Porsche crashed in Santa Clarita and erupted in flames, the county coroner's office reported last week.

Roger Rodas, 38, Walker's financial advisor and friend, was behind the wheel of the high-performance 2005 Porsche when it crashed. He was killed by the impact alone, a medical examiner concluded.

Meanwhile a second man charged withstealing part of the wrecked Porschehas surrendered to authorities at the San Fernando courthouse.

Anthony Janow, 25, and Jameson Witty, 18,each face one felony count of grand theft of personal property, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said. They each also face misdemeanor counts of destroying evidence and resisting, obstructing and delaying a peace officer.

Janow, aprofessional skateboarder, was booked and released Tuesday morning. Witty was arrested last week and released from custody after posting $20,000 bail.

If convicted of the charges, the men each face a maximum sentence of four years and six months in county jail, prosecutors said.

Authorities allege that on the night of Nov. 30, the pair stole a roof panel from a tow truck carrying the destroyed Porsche Carrera GT away from the Valencia crash site.

The tow truck driver -- who had been stopped at a red light when the theft occurred -- reported it to authorities, officials said. Search warrants were served, and investigators found some of the parts at a home in Canyon Country.

Major fines threatened in parched Qld town - December 12, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Residents of a small central Queensland town that's run dry face huge fines if they're busted using "excessive" amounts of water.

Dysart residents are also being urged to answer the call of nature in portable loos because it saves nine litres of water per flush.

Isaac Regional Council says water levels in the mining town remain critical and residents have been ordered to restrict themselves to "absolutely essential use".

If they don't, they could wind up a lot poorer.

Outdoor water use of any kind has been banned.

Residents face on-the-spot fines of up to $2400 for washing their cars, watering the lawn or using sprinklers. For businesses the fines could be up to $19,920.

If excessive use sparks action in the courts, residents could ultimately be fined up to $24,000 and businesses up to $199,800.

"Water must only be used for drinking, showering and toileting," council said in a statement on Thursday.

"There must be no outside use except to water livestock."

Dysart ran out of water early on Wednesday after its water treatment plant failed.

Paul Walker’s family plans funeral after body released by coroner - December 12, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

A memorial Sunday for Walker drew thousands to Santa Clarita, but various media reports have said the funeral will be private.

Woman’s Sleepwalking Leads to Dangerous Overdose - December 12, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

A 55-year-old woman in England experienced severe vision loss after she overdosed on prescription medication while she was sleepwalking, according to a new report of the case.

The woman went to the emergency room after she woke up and was not able to see. She said she had been taking a drug called quinine sulfate once a day for leg cramps. Quinine sulfate is an anti-malaria medication that is sometimes prescribed for leg cramps, but can cause serve side effects, including vision problems.

The next day, the woman's vision had improved slightly, but was still dark, and she could not distinguish colors. After further questioning, she revealed she may have accidentally overdosed on the medication while sleepwalking. She felt she had taken some pills while sleepwalking, and the woman's daughter found an empty box of the tablets on the kitchen counter, according to the report. (Top 10 Spooky Sleep Disorders)

Overdoses of quinine can cause irreversible vision loss and even death. In fact, in 1994, the Food and Drug Administration warned against using the drug to prevent leg cramps, because for this condition, the risks of the drug outweigh the benefits, according to the agency.

But in the United Kingdom, the rules are less stringent: For nonmalaria uses, doctors are advised to prescribe the drug only when leg cramps affect sleep, and to regularly check in with patients to see if the drug is working as desired.

The woman underwent more eye tests, which revealed the loss of nerve cells near the inner surface of her eye.

One month later, the woman still had impairments in her central vision (used for reading, etc.) and did not have peripheral vision. Her condition remained unchanged a year later, the researchers said.

The researchers said in the report that they wrote up the woman's case in order to highlight the dangers of quinine prescription, particularly to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, or people who sleepwalk. In the U.K., the drug is often prescribed without checking in with the patient to see whether it is helping, said the researchers, from Birmingham Heartlands Hospital.

"We would urge practitioners to exercise caution when prescribing this drug and to follow appropriate guidelines," the researchers wrote in the Nov. 28 issue of British Medical Journal (BMJ) Case Reports. Prescribing the drug to vulnerable groups should be more restricted and stringently reviewed, the researchers said.

The Lawn Care Nut – I Will See You In The Lawn! - December 1, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

    About Me

Im Allyn and Im the craft beer drinking, lawn loving, gray-haired guy who makes these videos for yall. Im a nut for sure a bit off-centered and turning more and more eccentric as I age. I am aware of this fact and dont care

I started my first lawn business in 1987 at the age of 14 because I wanted to make some money to take my girlfriend to the movies. My first lawn mower was a bright orange Sears push mower

This is the lawn treatment schedule that I have developed based on my experiences with lawn applications over the years. In this series of lawn videos, I chose a lawn in Crown Point, Indiana to work on throughout the season to show you exactly what to add to the lawn step-by-step during the entire year. It starts in early April and carries you into later fall. However, typically, I would start the program sometime in mid March

These two lawn videos are designed to teach you two of the foundational principles of How To Fertilize The Lawn. Its great if you think you know how to apply lawn products, but dont you want to know that you are truly doing it properly? In addition, you want to ensure that you are not only applying correctly, but that you are applying at the proper rates to get the correct results. Follow this lawn fertilizing guide to ensure a proper application every time!

Organic Lawn Care For the Cheap and Lazy - November 26, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Lawn care in a nutshell: Must do: Set your mower as high as it will go (3 to 4 inches). Water only when your grass shows signs of drought stress and then water deeply (put a cup in your sprinkler zone and make sure it gets at least an inch of water). Optional: Fertilize with an organic fertilizer in the fall and spring. I recommend the Ringer brand. Have the pH of your soil professionally tested. Add lime if it is below 6.0 and gardener's sulfur if it is above 7.0. How much top soil do you have? See how deep a shovel will go into the soil. How deep can you dig a hole in one minute? Four inches of topsoil will make for an okay lawn. Eight or more inches of topsoil will make for a great lawn. Now for the verbose details on lawn care:

A little knowledge makes it so damn near anything can qualify for the "cheap and lazy" label. Including lawn care. Organic is just a bonus.

The key to the lawn care game is competition. You want to make things favorable for the grass and unfavorable for the weeds so the grass will choke out the weeds. Naturally.

MYTH: "If I mow short, it will be longer until I have to mow again." False! Wrong! (SLAP! SLAP! SLAP!) Your grass needs grass blades to do photosynthesis (convert sunshine into sugar) to feed the roots. When you whack the blades off, the grass has to RACE to make more blades to make sugar. It then grows amazingly fast. This fast growth uses up a lot of the grass's stored sugar, and weakens the plant. It is now vulnerable to disease and pests! Tall grass is healthier and can use the extra sugar to make rhizomes (more grass plants) thus thickening the turf. Have you ever noticed that short grass in the summer is always riddled with dead brown patches?

If you have a serious weed infestation, consider mowing twice as frequently as you normally do. The sensitive growing point for grass is near the soil. The sensitive growing point for most weeds is near the top of the plant. So when you mow, it's as if you are giving your grass a haircut and cutting the heads off of the weeds.

Finally, when mowing, be sure to leave the clippings on the lawn. It adds organic matter and nutrients back into the soil. If you don't leave the clippings, your soil will begin to look more like "dirt" than soil. Soon it will be a form of cement that nothing will grow in and you will have the world's most pitiful lawn. Some people are concerned about "clumping" - that only happens when you mow too short or when you don't mow often enough.

Mowing higher gives the following perks:

Check out this pic. Someone started to mow and then I convinced them, as an experiment, to set their mower higher. This pic was taken about six days later as summer is setting in. Can you see the difference?

My lawn care mower of choice? The "Scott's Classic" manual mower. When you mow high, it doesn't take much effort to mow. It is easier with a manual than a heavy, noisy, stinky gas mower. The Scott's Classic is the only manual mower that I know of that can mow three inches. The others top out at 2.5 inches or less. It's at amazon.com.

    Update!

Lawn Care DIY Tips | Lawn Care Do it Yourself - November 26, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Having a green lawn is a mark of pride for many homeowners. A beautiful, lush, and natural-looking lawn becomes a big part of how they come to define home.

When you consider your own landscaping options, there might be some decisions on whether to hire professional lawn care or if you can do it yourself. This article will outline some of the basic considerations youll face so you can approach do-it-yourself lawn care with confidence.

Every solid project requires a good foundation. The foundation for a good lawn is the soil in which it grows. If you have soil issues, you will have lawn issues. Perform a soil test for your lawn soil. This will give you valuable information on what your soil has and what you need to add to it.

There are do-it-yourself kits available from some lawn care services or lawn and garden shops. The cooperative extension offices in many states will also test soil for free or for a low fee. Private companies also provide kits and testing for a fee. Once you get the results returned, you will see what you may need to add to the soil in order to get the lawn of your dreams.

The type of grass you have in your yard depends on your location. For people living in the hot areas of Florida and other subtropical zones, St. Augustine is likely the local neighborhood favorite. In other areas of the country, there are additional options. Tall fescue or Bermuda are both popular choices in many areas of the country.

If you are aware of the type of grass you have in your yard and are content with its health and the way it looks, simply learn more about how to treat it well. If you are starting fresh, make sure you select a grass that thrives in your geographic area. One good tip is to locate the best-looking lawn in your neighborhood and initiate a conversation with the owner. They can give you a good idea of what types of seed, fertilizer and watering schedules might also work well in your yard.

Most grasses require at least four hours of sunlight every day. If you have an area that doesnt receive that much sun, you still likely have a couple of options to get the lawn you desire.

Find a seed mix that works well in the shade. Many fescue blends, for example, will work very well for you in the shade. That is great news for people that live further north, as well. In the south, St. Augustine is often the grass selected because it grows well in shady areas.

Planting new grass is actually a simple procedure for most homeowners.
