Summers the Plumber Makes a Splash on a Dry Day - December 12, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Summers the Plumber Makes a Splash on a Dry Day

DECEMBER 9, 2014: Auckland plumber Toby Summers loves making a splash and even managed to do so on a scorching hot weekend at Hampton Downs.

And, although a bit of bad luck meant he leaked a few too many points at the opening round of the Suzuki Series at Hampton Downs on Sunday, the Yamaha rider reckons he could be on target to win the Formula Two (600cc) class crown for a second time.

With 1-10 results in his two races on Sunday, he didnt think hed have too much to celebrate ... until he saw how the points stacked up at the end of the day and he realised he actually owned a share of the lead.

The 41-year-old convincingly won the F2 crown last season, the first time the Manukau man had won a major trophy in the 600cc class, but coming in just his second season of contesting the class.

Now hes into his third year racing the Yamaha R6 and hes no longer considered a rookie, but perhaps regarded more as the series favourite.

As the 2014 edition of the series heads to round two at Manfeild this coming weekend, Summers is locked in a three-way tie for the lead.

Summers has 36 points to his credit, putting him alongside Wainuiomatas Shane Richardson and Katikatis Rhys Holmes, at the top of the standings. Richardson finished 2-7 on Sunday and Holmes registered a 4-4 score-card.

How I finished up at the end of the day with a share of the points lead I dont know, said defending champion Summers.

I had a huge battle with Christchurchs Alistair Hoogenboezem and figured, seeing as hes not doing the whole series, I could just let him go and not risk anything. Next thing I know, I come over a brow of a hill and I see Al Hoogie and another rider off the track and in the gravel. Hoogie lost the race; I didnt win it.

Queensland plumber not guilty after Bali hijacking scare - December 12, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A TWEED Heads plumber who sparked a hijacking scare aboard a flight to Bali earlier this year has been found not guilty of interfering with a crew member.

Matthew Christopher Lockley, 28, made headlines around the world after a Virgin Airlines flight from Brisbane to Bali on Anzac Day was forced to make an emergency landing at Denpasar Airport after crew members thought the plane was being hijacked.

Heavily armed Indonesian police boarded the plane when it landed and took Mr Lockley into custody before releasing him without charge the following day.

He was charged subsequently under the Civil Aviation Act for interfering with a crew member when he returned home as the plane was registered in Australia.

Mr Lockley always maintained his innocence claiming he mistook to cockpit door for a business class toilet at the front of the aircraft.

Magistrate Judy Daley, in delivering her findings on Friday, said she believed Mr Lockley attempted to gain access to the cockpit, but believed there was no untoward intent in doing so.

She said the physical act had been proved, but said there was not enough evidence to prove intent.

"Mr Lockley says he was suffering panic attack, feeling claustrophobic and was also confused," she said.

"This was corroborated from evidence provided by witnesses at his trial."

Outside court Mr Lockley said he was relieved the whole ordeal was finally over.

Plumber burnt in gas bottle blow-up - December 8, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The plumber was flown to hospital after suffering extensive burns. Source: News Limited

A PLUMBER has suffered severe burns following a gas explosion at a Mornington Peninsula school this afternoon.

The man in his 50s received flash burns to his face, arms and legs when the incident happened while he was working at Red Hill Consolidated School.

It is understood the victim, who was engaged by the school, was working on the hot water service and purging gas lines when the system ignited.

Paramedics, fire crews and police were called to the Arthurs Seat Rd school about 5pm.

Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman Lisa Hind said the plumber was flown to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition.

Principal Leanne Marshall said the school communitys thoughts were with the injured man.

She said while some students in after-school care were playing on the oval, the majority of staff and students had left for the day.

Students didnt witness the incident but some are understandably shaken. Weve arranged for specialist counselling support to be available at our school from tomorrow for any student who may need it, Ms Marshall said.

She said the building in which the explosion occurred was deemed safe and has since been cordoned off.

Plumber's tools taken during spate of van attacks - December 6, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A self-employed plumber had tools stolen from his van during a spree of attacks on vans in the Droitwich area this week.

Kevin Boult's van was parked at his home in Newland Road when the thieves struck, taking a number of power and battery tools worth more than 1,500.

Mr Boult, whose company is KK Domestic Plumbing Services, didn't realise the uninsured tools were missing until he turned at a customer's house to complete a job in the morning.

He said: "I need those tools for work so it's effected what I can do, but luckily friends have been kind enough to lend me tools in the mean time.

"I will still need to replace them eventually, and it's a lot of money so will be a big loss for the business which will take some to recover.

"I was absolutely livid when I realised what they had done, I couldn't believe it. They just don't care.

"The fact they came onto my property and did it makes me even angrier."

The thieves gained access to the van by by drilling a small hole in the door and opening it after they accessed the door's cables.

Three vans were targeted between Tuesday and Wednesday this week, in Worcester Road in Wychbold and the other in Yew Tree Hill, also in Droitwich.

Police confirmed Mr Boult's van was attacked between 5.30pm on Tuesday and 8.30am on Wednesday.
