A PLUMBER was left dangling in the air for almost an hour thanks to a malfunctioning lift.

A BALLARAT plumber faced a risky rescue operation on Friday afternoon after becoming stuck 10 metres in the air whenhis hired scissor lift cranemalfunctioned.
Fire crews used a series of ladders, makeshift bridges and harness systems to rescue the man, who was stuck for almost one hour.
The man had been working on athree-storeyroof of a residential building in Lyons Street South, Ballarat, when he became stuck about 3pm.

Ballarat City Fire Station senior station officer Terry Fradd said crews managed to safely free the man just after3.45pm.
Mr Fradd said the engine on the scissor liftbecame disabled, trapping the man while he worked on the roof.
Fire crews carefully rescued the man by harnessing him anddragging him across to the nearby roof.

HUDSON The customers never suspected the plumber was a thief, deputies said, when he installed their water softener.
But according to a Pasco sheriff's report, David Dornseif, a plumber with RJ Kielty Plumbing in Hudson, stole a water softener from his employer. And after he installed it, he admitted to pocketing the $750 the customers paid.
Dornseif, 31, was arrested Monday, charged with grand theft. The report said he also stole a toilet and bathtub.
Those he kept for personal use.
The report said management at RJ Kielty knew nothing about Dornseif taking the softener and other items and didn't tell him to install the softener.
Dornseif was being held in Land O' Lakes jail Tuesday in lieu of $9,500 bail; $2,000 for the theft and $7,500 for a separate charge of battery by strangulation.

WORCESTER (CBS) A Worcester-area plumber has been found guilty of child endangerment for having a teenage worker remove asbestos insulation without proper precautions.
Prosecutors said 43-year-old Daniel Watterson violated a number of environmental and labor regulations when he told the teen to get rid of two old boilers covered in asbestos at a home in Worcester in 2008.
The teen was not certified, was not wearing protective clothing and had no respirator or protective equipment during the job. Prosecutors say the boy also failed to wet the asbestos before removing it from the boiler and pipes, so it wouldnt spread through the air. Instead, he ripped the insulation and chipped it with putty knives.
The asbestos-covered boilers were then smashed up with a sledgehammer and thrown in a regular trash dumpster.
This is the first use of the child endangerment statute in an asbestos case, according to Attorney General Martha Coakleys office.
Watterson was also found guilty on three charges of violating the Massachusetts Clean Air Act for failure to file notices of asbestos removal with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, improper removal of asbestos-containing material, and improper disposal of asbestos-containing materials.
Watterson operates under the business names The Clog Specialist, Dan the Heating Man, and DW Plumbing & Heating.
His sentencing is set for July 3.
