Trumps Committee to Protect the President – The Atlantic - November 25, 2019 by Mr HomeBuilder

For the past three years, Nunes has used his perch on the Intelligence Committeefirst as chairman and now as ranking memberto do Trumps bidding. That continued this morning, as he used his question time to try to get first Williams and then Vindman to publicly identify the whistle-blower whose complaint set off the investigation that has become an impeachment inquiry into the president. Nunes asked both witnesses whether they had spoken with anyone in the press about the call. Both replied that they had not. Nunes then asked who inside or outside the White House each of them had spoken with in the immediate aftermath of the July 25 call between Trump and Zelensky. Williams replied that she had spoken with no one about it, so Nunes quickly moved on to Vindman, and thats where it got interesting.

Read: Take it from me, the attacks on Vindman are disgraceful

Yes, I did, he replied. My core function is to coordinate U.S. government policy, and I spoke to two individuals with regards to providing some sort of readout of the call. Both, he explained, were cleared U.S. government officials with the appropriate need to know.

Vindman said one of those individuals was Kent, the deputy assistant secretary of state who testified last week. The other was an individual in the intelligence community.

When Nunes asked him to identify that person, Committee Chairman Adam Schiff interjected. We need to protect the whistle-blower, the Democrat said. Please stop. I want to make sure that there is no effort to out the whistle-blower through these proceedings.

He advised Vindman to be careful, and Vindman listened. After consulting his lawyer, he said he had been advised not to answer specific questions about members of the intelligence community.

After another minute of protest, Nunes moved on, but his ally Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio later took up the same line of questioning, with a similar result.

Both Schiff and Vindman have said they do not know the identity of the whistle-blower, but the exchange left little doubt that the person Vindman spoke with in the intelligence community is the one who ended up filing the initial complaint. The whistle-blowers employment in the intelligence community was established in the complaint, which also said that the whistle-blower had heard about the July 25 call from multiple officials in the White House.

As of this writing, Nunes and Jordan were not successful in their efforts to out the whistle-blower, but their very public attemptlike the many tweets Trump has sent criticizing the personcould have a chilling effect on future whistle-blowers, who must decide whether to report wrongdoing up the chain of command. Indeed, that may have been the intent of the GOP effort.

Vindman did not file a formal whistle-blower complaint, but he did report his concerns about the Trump-Zelensky call and other meetings involving Ukraine to lawyers in the National Security Council. His appearance and testimony this morning made plain the risks he faced in doing so. Vindman is a decorated military veteran who was wounded serving the nation in Afghanistan, and is still currently serving in the White House even as he testifies against the commander in chief. Conservative loyalists of the president have used Vindmans Ukrainian heritagehis family fled the Soviet Union for the United States when he was 4 years oldto question his loyalty. Shortly before the hearing began, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Army had made preparations to move Vindman and his family to a military base to secure their physical safety if necessary. And while the hearing was going on, the White House issued a tweet undermining the credibility of one of its own employees. The GOP committee counsel, Steve Castor, pressed Vindman to detail offers he rejected to become Ukraines defense minister. I immediately dismissed these offers, did not entertain them at all, he replied.

Salvation Army working through plumbing issue – Mankato Free Press - November 25, 2019 by Mr HomeBuilder

MANKATO The Salvation Armys building will be closed until the nonprofit resolves a major plumbing issue, although cold lunches and the mens homeless shelter will be available.

The plumbing issue arose Tuesday and worsened overnight. Plumbing and flooring crews were working on site Wednesday.

Salvation Army Business Director Leslie Johnson said the Mankato nonprofit is trying to work through the problem, adding its difficult to guess how long services will be impacted.

Its definitely a hardship for our staff to be in a building that doesnt have plumbing, and its definitely a hardship for people that rely on the Salvation Army on the daily for something as simple as a shower or laundry, she said.

The mens shelter will have a port-a-potty for guests to use until plumbing is back online. The shelter housed 10 men Tuesday night but has seen as many as 18 since opening in early November.

With the buildings cafeteria temporarily off limits, the nonprofit distributed sack lunches Wednesday and will do so again at least through Thursday. The lunch program has been feeding about 120 people daily.

The Salvation Armys 700 S. Riverfront Drive building is at least 100 years old, Johnson said.

She encouraged the public to pray for a quick resolution and said those interested in helping can make donations specifically to the plumbing project. People in need of emergency social services can still work with their case worker by calling 507-345-7840.

Were just doing the best we can kind of putting out fires as they come and trying to serve the public as best we can, Johnson said.

How to Become a Professional Plumber – Ferguson - October 9, 2019 by Mr HomeBuilder

Becoming a licensed plumber can open the door to numerous career opportunities and offers a wide variety of benefits. If youre interested in pursuing a plumbing career, then the next step is to learn what it takes to make your goal a reality. The path to becoming a plumber varies significantly from state to state and even city to city. There are, however, a few requirements that most areas have in common. Read the basic steps you need to take in order to earn your plumbing certification and get started with finding out how to become a plumber in your area.

How much money can you earn as a plumber? Find out >>

Earning your high school diploma or equivalent, such as a GED, is your first step on the path to becoming a professional plumber. Having a basic knowledge of reading, writing, science and math are critical to pursuing any career in the pro trade industry. For plumbers, having an advanced knowledge of math and science are absolutely necessary since the work often involves making accurate measurements and gauging water. Areas of your high school or equivalent education that will benefit you as a plumber include:

In addition to earning your high school diploma or GED, other factors that can impact your plumbing career are your driving record, your criminal background and your ability to pass a drug test. Training programs and future employers might be deterred from working with you for safety and insurance reasons if you have:

If you have a valid driver's license, are drug-free and have a clean driving record and criminal background, then it will likely be easier for you to pursue a plumbing career.

Once youve earned your high school diploma or equivalent, the next step is to enroll in technical plumbing courses. Many states require a certain number of hours in the classroom in order to become a licensed plumber. Technical course are offered by a variety of public and private schools and programs. Check out local community colleges, trade institutions, unions or professional plumbing associations for information about plumbing programs in your area. The curriculum will depend on your city or states requirements, but topics could include:

Recommendation: Joining the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Associations can help you grow your plumbing career. Explore PHCC membership benefits >>

Depending on where you live, you will likely be required to work alongside an experienced plumber as an apprentice for a certain number of hours. The length of the apprenticeship will vary, but could take as long as two to five years. You might be able to complete your apprenticeship while you are enrolled in technical courses. In order to find a plumbing apprenticeship, you can start by checking with the trade school or organization through which you are receiving technical training. If they do not offer an apprenticeship program, they will likely have information about where to find one.

Pro tip: You can also check with local plumbing businesses to see if they are hiring apprentices. Not only will you receive valuable on-the-job training from a seasoned pro, but they might offer to pay you for the hours you work. This gives you the opportunity to earn while you learn.

Certain areas will require you to pass a written exam, a practical test or both in order for you to earn your plumbing license. If testing is required in your area, you will likely have to take it once you have completed your technical courses and your apprenticeship program. In general, you can expect the exam to be cumulative of what you learned on the job and in the classroom. Based on your state and local requirements, you might then be considered a licensed journeyman plumber once you pass the test. If so, then you might be legally allowed to complete plumbing contract work without the assistance of another qualified plumber depending on where you live.

Click the region in which your state is located to get started with finding information about the plumbing license requirements and programs in your area. Please note that some states have limited online resources, and that certain license requirements are mandated at the city or county level.

Plumber Causes Major Flood In Apartment - October 9, 2019 by Mr HomeBuilder

Read the full description below. This is a lesson in why you should never hire cheap labor.

Full description: All hiring and decisions were exclusively between the landlord and plumber. The woman with the steam vacuum is the tenant of this low income apartment with her two children. They reported a leaking bathroom sink to their landlord. The landlord, a very problematic, very cheap, Persian female, calls in a self-appointed Hispanic plumber named Wilmer. Wilmer is the kind of cheap labor that cuts corners to try and save money.

It should come as no surprise, with these buildings having been built in the 1970's and earlier, that nothing is up to code. This means, in order to shut the water off for this one apartment, the entire building's water would have to be shut down. The apartment complex requires a $150 fee to be paid every 30 minutes the water is turned off. The shut off valves and water heaters are behind locked doors and are only accessible by the complex staff. This is obviously a flawed system compared to the ideal of each apartment having separate shut off valves. The landlord is far too cheap to do anything about it.

Wilmer tried to please the cheap landlord by saving her $150 on the bill - you guessed it - by repairing the leak with the water still on. Wilmer, confident in his abilities and armed with his trusty 5 gallon bucket, knows that he will always get her return business if he pulls this off. He gets underneath the sink and unleashes a 90PSI torrent of steaming hot water (don't worry, the minion slippers are fine).

All in all, two apartments were ruined, and all affected tenants had to vacate the apartment for extensive repair. This video proved the incompetence of both the landlord and plumber, thus, the landlord was forced to pay all damages to all parties involved.

For all the morons who complain that I should have put down the camera and helped this water-logged jackass - I chose not to help for liabilities sake, and instead documented the incident. The landlord tried to pull a fast one and blame the tenants, but the video proved the tenants innocence, and the lying bitch of a landlord was held accountable for the entire situation. Who can deny how funny this video ended up being. Without this video, the tenants would have been screwed over, and you wouldn't be laughing your ass off at this hilarious situation. Quit watching if you think otherwise.

Last, I am not a tenant here, as evident by my years worth of YouTube videos, but I am friends with these folks. They may be simple folk, but they are good people. Always document incidents like this, it saved these people and can very well save you from a lawsuit - the same reason many people buy dash cams.

In the first 3 months, between Liveleak, WorldStar, and YouTube, this video has pulled in 1.3 million views!

Creating APIs in R with Plumber - September 29, 2019 by Mr HomeBuilder

The R Programming Language (R Core Team 2013) has become one of the most dominant programming languages for data analysis and visualization in recent years. At the same time, web services have become a common language for allowing various systems to interact with one another. The plumber R package (Trestle Technology, LLC 2017) allows users to expose existing R code as a service available to others on the Web. Plumber is best illustrated with an example:

Even without knowing R, you can probably get a rough idea for what the above Plumber API will do. The first function above defines the /echo endpoint which simply echoes back the text that it was sent. The second function generates a plot based on Edgar Andersons famous Iris Dataset; it includes a filter that allows the caller to subset the dataset to a particular species.

Plumber makes use of these comment annotations above your functions to define the web service. When you feed the above file into Plumber, youll get a runnable web service that other systems can interact with over a network.

The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is the dominant medium by which information is exchanged on the Internet. An Application Programming Interface (API) is a broad term that defines the rules that guide your interaction with some software. In the case of HTTP APIs, you have a defined set of endpoints that accept particular inputs. Plumber translates the annotations you place on your functions into an HTTP API that can be called from other machines on your network. If you execute your Plumber API on a public server, you can even make your API available to the public Internet.

HTTP APIs have become the predominant language by which software communicates. By creating an HTTP API, youll empower your R code to be leveraged by other services whether theyre housed inside your organization or hosted on the other side of the world. Here are just a few ideas of the doors that are opened to you when you wrap your R code in a Plumber API:

Plumber is hosted on CRAN, so you can download and install the latest stable version and all of its dependencies by running:

Alternatively, if youd like to run the latest unstable development version of plumber, you can install it from its GitHub repository using the devtools package.

Once you have plumber installed, see the Quickstart for information on how to get up-and-running with Plumber in minutes.
