David Parker, owner of ER Plumbing of Charlotte, NC, has launched a new website, http://charlottetanklesswaterheaters.net/. As a master plumber with three decades of plumbing experience, Parker has decided to expand his community outreach and public education by creating a website devoted solely to the topic of water heaters.

Parker is expanding his efforts to promote green living and ecologically friendly appliance choices by educating the public about the many various types of water heaters.
Consumers can find unique information, including brand comparisons and reliable, current purchasing and sizing information, on the new site. The site is designed to provide quick and easy access to valuable consumer information, free of brand bias or influence. The opinions on the site are those of an experienced plumber who has installed and repaired water heaters in the Charlotte community.

The Customer Codes Approval Scheme from the Trading Standards Institute, launched last week, hopes to provide customers with greater confidence in the codes of practice offered by trade organisations and business organisations, reports the Guardian on June 18 in the article Consumer Codes Scheme Aims to Improve Customer Confidence. Under the scheme, rogue traders, those in the industry who complete sub-standard work or traders breaching the codes, could face fines or prison.
The government is currently reviewing consumer legislation and, along with the draft consumer rights bill, the Customer Codes Approval Scheme forms a part of this reviewing process. The government aims to make the legislations in the scheme law by 2014.
The Chief Executive of Trading Standard Institute, Leon Livermore, told the Guardian that:
"The government recognises the importance of this new scheme, which comes with an important sting in the tail. We will be reinforcing the fact that failure for any trader to comply with an industry code whose logo they display is a criminal offence for which they could face fines or imprisonment."
Emergency Plumber provides qualified plumbers throughout the UK and follow developments in the industry closely. A representative from Slough Emergency Plumber shared their thoughts on the new scheme and how it could help businesses:
"This new scheme is important as it aims to reduce the number of rogue traders or engineers who complete work that is below the high standards that customers expect. This scheme should be able to support those businesses that provide qualified, reliable and efficient plumbers and electricians, such as the ones provided by Emergency Plumber. We hope that this scheme gives customers the improved confidence that the scheme hopes to achieve."
Emergency plumber is an agency run by Martin Smith. With 18 years experience in the industry, his aim is to provide fast and efficient emergency plumbing engineers 24/7. The company operates within a wide range of areas in the UK including London, Plymouth, Reading, Coventry, Bolton, Manchester and Newcastle. With a database of over 300 emergency plumbers, the firm is currently the fastest growing plumbing company in the UK. Customers can also contact the team for information and advice on gas related problems.

Plumber jailed over unpaid taxes -
June 28, 2013 by
Mr HomeBuilder
A plumber who avoided paying almost 160,000 of tax and National Insurance contributions over 15 years has been jailed.
Kevin Lay, who was charged with two counts of cheating the public revenue of 158,289, was jailed for two years at Reading Crown Court yesterday (Thursday).
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) officers told the court the plumber, of Bouldish Farm Road, Ascot, failed to submit Self Assessment returns or complete VAT returns since setting up his plumbing and maintenance business in 1997.
The court heard the 49-year-old also ignored an HMRC initiative to disclose the unpaid tax he owed.
John Cooper, Assistant Director Criminal Investigation for HMRC, said: In 2011, HMRC ran a campaign giving plumbers like Kevin Lay the opportunity to disclose any unpaid tax they owed.
"He chose not to take this opportunity, and instead found himself subject to criminal proceedings.
During the sentencing Her Honour Judge Morris said: "This was not a sophisticated fraud, but fraudulent from the outset.
"You knew you should have paid tax but persistently avoided doing so.
"Such a fraudulent enterprise over such a long period of time must expect an immediate custodial sentence because the impact on the public purse is significant."
Lay admitted two counts of cheating the public revenue at an earlier hearing. He was sentenced for two years for each count to run concurrently.

Q: We have a good-size bathroom/laundry room off our kitchen and it gets used more than any other bathroom in our home. We have decided to remodel that room, complete with new plumbing. With three children running in and out, we would also like to install a home water fountain in this bathroom. Is that a good idea, and can you please give us some information on home-water-fountain installations? Bruce, Ohio
A: Generally, a simple wall-hung china water fountain that matches the sink and toilet should fit the bill. Your plumber can rough the fountain drain line and a cold-water line inside the wall, then install the unit according to local codes.
For busy households, a water fountain can eliminate the mess of extra cups and reduce congestion at the sink. Plus, kids seem to love drinking out of a home water fountain.
A home drinking fountain can be a very good idea, but keep a few things in mind: White is usually the standard color. If youre thinking of another color, it most likely will have to be special-ordered. Also, kids do grow up. So, before you make the sizable investment in a home water fountain, think about long-term use and if will be worth the money.
In addition, it is a fixture that should get frequent cleaning. After all, you dont want family members and guests to feel like theyre using a public restroom!

The Buckinghamshire Examiner reported on June 10 in the article Narrow Escape for Gassed Family, that a family of two children and two adults were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a gas leak in their home. The emergency services, including a fire crew and paramedics, were called to their home as it was thought the gas leak was due to a faulty boiler.
James Keating-Wilkes, from South Bucks Ambulance Service, told the Buckinghamshire Examiner that:
The paramedics called the GP and checked the patients who were suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning due to a faulty boiler. A gas man had been out to look at the boiler, and fire crews ventilated the property.
Renowned for their Lewisham emergency plumbers, Plumber 24 Hours provide qualified plumbers, electricians and oil engineers among other services. The company also specialise in gas safety and, concerned with this recent news story, a spokesperson offered advice on gas safety:
This recent case of carbon monoxide poisoning highlights the importance of having a carbon monoxide alarm installed in your home. The alarm can detect even the smallest amounts of carbon monoxide allowing you to take the appropriate action.
However, a carbon monoxide alarm is no substitute for having all gas appliances regularly checked and maintained by a Gas Safe Registered engineer. This will help ensure that all appliances are working correctly and reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Being aware of the symptoms could also further help to reduce the risk of serious carbon monoxide poisoning. If you notice symptoms such as nausea, headaches and dizziness when you are at home, this could signal a warning sign.
Plumber 24 Hours is the nations leading emergency plumber company. Run by Martin Smith, the firm offers plumbers, gas engineers, oil engineers, drainage engineers and emergency electricians and works to provide a 24 hour domestic and commercial plumbing service 365 days of the year. With customer service the principle concern, Plumber 24 Hours has been noted by magazines as the most reliable plumbing emergency company. The company also makes use of the latest technology on the internet to make sure everything runs smoothly.
