Plumber charged over Cork hotel death - June 6, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

A man has been charged in connection with the death from carbon monoxide poisoning of a 35-year-old woman at a hotel in Co Cork two years ago.

Miriam Reidy was found dead at the Trident Hotel in Kinsale in January 2011.

Richard Davis, 44, from Ballygarvan, Co Cork, was charged with her manslaughter at Macroom District Court this afternoon.

Mr Davis, a plumber, faces three charges relating to Ms Reidy's death.

He is charged with manslaughter and with two charges under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act.

One of these alleges that he negligently converted a boiler at the Trident Hotel for use with liquefied petroleum gas in a manner that exposed people there to a risk to their health and safety.

The other alleges that as a consequence of this work Ms Reidy suffered injury and died.

Judge James McNulty granted Mr Davis free legal aid. He was told a book of evidence to be compiled on the case will be large and complex.

Mr Davis was remanded on bail until 19 September.

Ms Reidy was in Kinsale with her sister Patricia and a group of around 30 friends attending a hen party for her cousin.

Plumber 24 Hours Responds to Heating Industry Victory - June 6, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

    (PRWEB UK) 5 June 2013

It has been reported in HVP that the proposal from the European Commission Delegated Regulation on energy, which featured an image of a radiator with a cross through it, was misleading, incorrectly informing installers and users that modern steel panel radiators are not idea for use with low water temperature technology. Manufacturing Association of Radiators and Convectors (MARC) chairman, John Colling, explains that these devices are at least as efficient as others.

Experts in the industry have stated their opinions that a symbol suggesting this use is not possible would be a major step back in efforts to improve the energy efficiency of UK homes.

Renowned for their Woolwich emergency plumbers, Plumber 24 Hours also specialises in gas safety. With a strong emphasis on informing and educating readers over the importance and benefits of energy inefficiency in the home, the news was of great interest to the team. A representative shares their thoughts on the subject.

This will be a big victory for the heating industry, but also for the housing market. Energy efficiency in the home not only helps people cut down on electricity and gas bills but also helps the environment.

Plumber 24 Hours Celebrates Expansion of Renewable Heat Scheme - June 6, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

    (PRWEB UK) 6 June 2013

The article: Increase in Money Off Vouchers Available Under RHPP, published 3rd July in HVP, reveals that the scheme works by providing consumers with money off the cost of the equipment. These payments have now been increased; to 2,300 for ground source heat pumps, 2,000 for biomass boilers, 1,300 for air source heat pumps and 600 for solar thermal systems. The changes were announced by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and it has been revealed that more than 10,000 households have already reaped the benefits.

Greg Barker, Energy and Climate Change Minister explains that This time limited, big increase in the value of vouchers for hardworking people who want to do something positive to install money saving green heating in their homes, should be a real boost for this growing green sector.

Well known for their Sutton emergency plumbers, Plumber 24 Hours operates throughout the country, also specialising in gas heating. Taking a keen interest in the energy efficient home heating systems, the team were delighted to hear of this extended project. A representative from the agency shares their thoughts on the latest news.

Its great to see people being rewarded for making the switch to more energy efficient and environmentally friendly equipment. 10,000 homes have already taken advantage of the deal and we will be interested to see how many more look into this by the time the scheme ends. As well as the money off vouchers, homeowners also stand to make further savings in the long term.

The scheme, which has been extended, is set to run until the end of March next year.

Plumber charged over Kinsale hotel death

    Thursday, June 06, 2013

A 44-year-old plumber has been charged with the manslaughter of a woman who died from acute carbon monoxide poisoning at a Co Cork hotel on Jan 9, 2011.

    By Sean ORiordan, Macroom

The 35-year-old woman, who was originally from Ballyhahill, Co Limerick, but who had an address in Tralee, Co Kerry, had been attending a hen party at the Trident Hotel, Kinsale.

She had been sharing a room with her sister, Patricia, who was also overcome by fumes, but spent almost two weeks recovering in hospital.

Det Sgt Fergal Foley said he met Mr Davis by appointment in Bandon yesterday where he arrested and charged him.

The detective said that, when he put the three charges to Mr Davis, the accused had nothing to say.

One of the two charges relating to breaches of the Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work Act 2005 stated that Mr Davis was negligent in the commissioning of a Worchester Bosch Greenstar 40 CDI liquid petroleum gas boiler at the hotel on or about Jan 4, 2011.

Mr Daviss solicitor, Shane Collins-Daly, told Judge James McNulty he would be applying for legal aid for his client.
