The driver of a plumbing truck joined a chase involving another pickup Thursday morning on narrow and winding streets northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
The chase began in the Altadena area after officers responded to a man who called authorities from several locations saying that he needed some type of medical assistance. The driver sped away when officers first found him on the 210 Freeway in the San Gabriel Valley.
Officer continued following the driver on the 210 Freeway before he exited onto streets in the Eagle Rock and Glassell Park areas northeast of downtown Los Angeles. The driver came to stop with officers behind him outside a house at about 8:30 a.m., refused to get out, then took off again.
He encountered an unoccupied green and logo-emblazoned pickup belonging to the Right Price Rooter service parked in the middle of the street, but squeezed between the truck and another vehicle to continue into the hillside neighborhood. The plumbing pickup driver could be seen running from a nearby property to the pickup before chasing the driver for several blocks.
NBC4 has reached out to the plumbing service for comment.
The chase eventually came to a stop in the 3100 block of Weldon Avenue and a standoff ensued when the driver entered a house. At least four people were escorted by law enforcement officers from the house. The man's brother told NBC4 he was recently hospitalized and planned to turn himself in, which he did early Thursday afternoon.
"We were there to determine whether he was a danger to himself or others," said LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of felony evading.

This Southern boy found a new home in North Platte and loves it as much as his hometown.
Albert Kelly was born and raised in South Carolina, but has called North Platte home since 1978.
I was born in a small community called Olympia, right outside the city limits of Columbia, South Carolina, Kelly said. It is a town about the size of Hershey.
His family came from blue-collar stock and were hard workers.
My mom was a homemaker; she kept us under control, Kelly said. My dad was a plumber about 90 percent of the time. We had four or five cotton mills that supported the community and Dad would work in the cotton mills sometimes.
The homes were built by the corporation that owned the cotton mill.
Most of the community was blue-collar labor, Kelly said. Back in those days, thats how it got developed. They called (the workers) Lint Heads. That was from the seeds and cotton and all getting in their hair. So we were proud Lint Heads. We were a proud people.
Kelly said he had three sisters, two older and one younger than him.
After high school, Kelly joined the Air Force and when he got out 10 years later, he decided to move to North Platte.
I got out of the military in 1978 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and moved here, Kelly said. My wife is from North Platte. She and I were both in the Air Force. Thats where we met, in the Air Force, down in Biloxi, Mississippi.
After Theresa and Al got married, they visited North Platte from time to time.
The first time I came to Nebraska I fell in love with it, Kelly said. I didnt think you could ever see this many miles without a tree.
Theresa and Al agreed to move to North Platte to raise their family.
Because when I found out about North Platte and the state of Nebraska, I said, this is it, Kelly said. Its a good education state, so we raised our children here. We always said when they got big wed head back down South, but here we are.
Kelly took a plumbing apprenticeship job when they moved to North Platte.
I started working for Aupperle Plumbing, Kelly said. The VA paid for him to give me a job and I learned a trade there.
From Aupperles, Kelly worked for North Platte Plumbing and then went to Union Pacific for 3 years.
I got laid off from UP and went to work for the hospital (Great Plains Health), Kelly said. I worked for them for 16 years until I retired on June 23. I was the master plumber there for the hospital in the engineer department.
Theresa and Al have two boys.
One is Albert, hes named after me so we call him Bert, and then Danny is my youngest and he owns his own plumbing shop in North Platte, Kelly said. Bert is in Virginia working for General Dynamics.
The Kellys have three grandchildren.
We have two grandboys my youngest son has two sons and my oldest boy has a girl, Kelly said. We always say shes Gods gift to us because when they were in England they were told they couldnt have any children.
Kelly said his son and daughter-in-law tried and tried and couldnt get pregnant.
So (my son) decided to tell his company he wanted to move back to the United States, and they moved to Virginia, Kelly said. And six months later, his wife was pregnant with a little girl. Shes 5 years old now. God is wonderful.
Kellys favorite hobby is golf.
My oldest son was stationed in England, and when he would come home, he and my youngest son would go golfing, Kelly said. When they did that, Dad didnt go because Dad didnt golf.
So Kelly figured he needed to learn the game.
I figured a good way to spend more time with my kids was to take up golf, Kelly said. And I did and now Im golfing and they dont.
Kellys favorite thing about North Platte is that it is similar to his hometown.
I guess its the small town, the people, Kelly said. You can walk by people and theyll always speak to you. Where I grew up in the South it was like that and thats what made me; every time I think about my home in South Carolina and this being my home in Nebraska, I couldnt ask for a better place.
Kelly rides motorcycle as a hobby as well.
Its hard to say where I would like to go in Nebraska that I havent been to because I ride motorcycle all over the state, Kelly said. Im a member of two groups, the American Legion Riders and then I ride with the Patriot Guard of Nebraska. So, I think Ive visited most of Nebraska.

The officer got into an unmarked squad car and watched Gallagher circle the area and drive by the residence again before he stopped the vehicle.

He also told police he has been growing marijuana in the basement of the residence for the past five years for personal use butdid not sell the cultivated cannabis.
Gallagher was charged with producing 50 to 200 cannabis plants and is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. July 6 before Judge Ron White.

If I had my life to live over again, Id be a plumber. Albert Einstein
Many years ago when I was in junior high school and beyond, teachers administered aptitude tests from time to time.
We were told the results of these tests would help us figure out what job or career for which we were most suited.
I have no memory of any guidance counselor ever sitting down with my test results and me to help determine what I ought to do with my life.
So, I winged it. I liked English and did well in it, so I majored in it. And I taught it for a time. Later, I went to graduate school, studied journalism and have been working at it for 30 years.
From time to time for the past two years, however, Ive wished Id learned yet another job.
Its down and dirty. Emergencies can clog up scheduled time off and holidays. But its an important job, and if you own your own business, I suppose you can choose to work or not.
And I can speak only from the customers perspective, but the moneys awfully good.
Yes, its true. I couldve been a plumber.
For nearly two years, the bathroom in my basement has been out of commission. Its not used much, except when we have company.
Imagine during the holidays with family staying downstairs, and at least six folks having to share the one upstairs bathroom. Sure, its doable, but its not easy.
The first plumber who came early on worked all day and wasnt quite confident in his diagnosis. He wanted to tear up the entire floor to the tune of several thousand dollars.
A few months later, another plumber overheard us talking about the problem and said hed never met a problem he couldnt repair. He visited, worked for hours and gave us a different diagnosis than Plumber #1.
We waited a while before deciding to try a third plumber. And that is where our journey into the world of stopped-up pipes took a turn into the Twilight Zone.
Many plumbers told me it would be weeks, perhaps even months, before they could get to me.
A few told me theyd come by, set a date to do so, then never showed up. That happened at least four times. These guys all were recommended highly by people I know.
Theyre just busy, I was told when Id complain to those praising their plumbing skills.
Busy is great. But dont tell me you will be at my house at a certain time, then dont show up without notice. It takes only a moment to send a text or call to say youre not coming.
Beyond frustration, we forgot about our basement bathroom for several more months. In truth, we forgot about the basement all together, using it instead as a catch-all place when we renovated our kitchen.
But a month ago, the time had come. I got yet another recommendation from my friend Derek Russell, made the call, told my lengthy story and got my name put on this plumbers list. Two weeks later, he called and said my number was up and he actually came to the house.
After two visits and a diagnosis that matched that of Plumber #2 from more than a year earlier, he set a date to begin the repair.
Again, he showed up. Our East Tupelo home once again has two working bathrooms.
In addition to showing up, knowing his stuff and sticking with a difficult and unpleasant task to the end, he is one of the nicest people Ive ever met.
Whether he needs me on his list of clients or not, hes got me.
Maybe I could have been a plumber, but now, thanks to Charles, I dont have to be.

Called for service, appointment schedule for 2 days later, arrived on time, wore booties to keep floors clean. Inspected problem, indicated fix fixed toilets immediately (had parts in truck). Ordered new toilet, which arrived within 48 hours, returned following day to install. Work was done promptly, neatly (even washed the floor after installing new toilet), entered into service agreement for maintenance and annual inspections he conducted first inspection, found minor problems that I was aware of and offered reasonable prices to repair. I will be having polybutylene piping replaced, was provided an estimate and will schedule work when funds are available. Very positive experience. Very polite and respectful. ~ C. Baima, Bel Air, MD

Hes flush with cash.
A Staten Island plumber vowed to keep snaking drains and unclogging toilets as he claimed a $136 million Powerball jackpot on Thursday, but not until he does some adventure travel in upstate New York.
I definitely, definitely will never change, said Anthony Perosi, 56, who bought the $2 ticket on March 14 at the 7-Eleven on Page Avenue in Staten Islands Charleston section.
The plumber, who has played the lottery twice a week for years, plans to keep his day job but wants to take time to see the great outdoors.
New York state, Buffalo. The woods, Perosi said, when asked where he planned to travel.
The plumber split the loot with his son 70-30. Perosi is taking a lump sum of $38,612,055 after taxes, while his kid is raking in $16,548,023 after taxes.
Perosi didnt know he was a winner until weeks after the Powerball drawing thanks to a bit of bad information.
Stopping in for a Coors Light and pizza at the Jimmy Max restaurant, he was mistakenly told by his bartender that the winning ticket had been bought at the 7-Eleven but that a teacher had already claimed the prize.
Hopefully, it was someone we know, the bartender, Sandy Smarch, who also works as a plumbers apprentice, recalled telling Perosi.
Without even checking the numbers, Perosi tucked away the golden ticket in a stash he keeps behind a pipe in his basement.
