A cowboy plumber has been jailed for three years after he made the precious final moments of his terminally ill victims lives hell after promising to install walk-in bathrooms while actually pocketing their life savings, a court heard.

Untrained Michael Andrews, of Nine Mile Ride, Wokingham, shamelessly marketed his firm as a respectable family business which provided bespoke wet rooms for severely disabled and elderly people.

However, the brazen conman hardly ever delivered on his projects, instead gaining his vulnerable victims trust with a series of lies before pocketing their deposit money which he blew on booze.

A judge heard that on the few occasions he did install the promised bathrooms, his work was so shoddy and dangerous that his customers were lucky to avoid severe electrocution from exposed wires.

His victims included an extremely vulnerable 79-year-old who could no longer climb the stairs and a woman with cancer who only had weeks to live.

Reading Crown Court was told on Friday 20 March how he repeatedly failed to turn up for work, fobbing off some victims by telling them that his brother - who he claimed ran the family firm with him - had suddenly and unexpectedly died.

However, this was just one of a web of lies he repeatedly wove around his business to keep anguished customers at bay, meaning for many of them their final moments were spent in sleepless turmoil.

The court heard how in September 2012 the 49-year-old had promised Philip Tidbury that he would construct a downstairs bathroom for his 79-year-old mother-in-law Rosemary, who was frail and could no longer climb the stairs.

He took a 1,500 deposit from Mr Tidbury but never turned up to carry out the work, meaning frail Rosemary had to move into a care home. She died there a few weeks later.

In April the following year he took a similar job for Brian Williams, whose wife Jane had been diagnosed with cancer and was wheelchair bound. This time Mr Williams paid a 1,400 deposit on the work, which was meant to be used to buy the materials needed for the job.

A: You already have the first bit of information, bathroom faucets are not the same. Today there are many types and styles of bathroom faucets available, and it can be a little confusing to choose a faucet to fit your existing sink.

Consult your plumber to ensure your exact replacement type or if you have a wall-mounted faucet.

Here are some bathroom faucets basics:

The two most popular categories for three-hole bathroom sinks are widespread and centerset faucets.

Widespread bathroom faucets usually feature separate components with hot and cold handles that measure between 8 to 16 inches apart.

Centerset faucets are usually compact single unit deck-mounted types with hot and cold handles about 4 inches apart.

For single-hole bathroom sinks, a single-hole, single-handle faucet usually does the trick.

Final tip: Bring a photo of your existing faucet to the home center so the salesperson can get a better handle on choosing your best replacement.

A subcontractor on the Nebraska Army National Guard Joint Forces Headquarters building sued the contractor on the project, Hausmann Construction Inc., for more than a half million dollars this week.

Peak Plumbing, a Wyoming business with its main office in Lincoln, andInternational Fidelity Insurance Company, its surety, allegesin the lawsuit filed in Lancaster County District Court, that Hausmann didn't pay them $534,071 for work they did on the project.

Peak Plumbing and Hausmann originally entered into a subcontract for plumbing services for the project for $1,253,972, later adjusted to $1,390,533 for changes to the scope of work, according to the lawsuit.

IFIC said Hausmann overpaid Peak Plumbing $332,738 prior to Sept. 1, 2011, then caused Peak Plumbing to perform work out of sequence, which led to additional subcontractor costs and overhead at a cost to Peak and IFIC of $319,633.

The additional $214,438 is what IFIC said Hausmann still owed on the adjusted subcontract amount.

Hausmann Construction hasn't yet responded to the suit.

The $22 million, 140,000-square-foot, four-story steel and glass building, which houses the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, the Nebraska Army and Air National Guard and the Nebraska State Patrol dispatch center, was completed in 2012.

Plumber sues over subcontract on Joint Force Headquarters

Bruce the Plumber seems like a pretty honest guy.

He owns Brohn Plumbing & Heating Inc. in Rifle, but hat hasnt been his lifelong profession. Bruce the Plumber has even been Bruce the Photographer and, for a brief stint, Bruce the Retailer. For three years in the mid-1980s, he said, he was the head photographer at the Glenwood Post, before it became the Post Independent. Before that, he was a photographer for the Associated Press in Denver and sometimes spent six nights a week covering pro teams at old McNichols Sports Arena, including the Alex English-era Denver Nuggets and the NHLs Colorado Rockies before they relocated to become the New Jersey Devils.

But Bruce the Plumber is now likely known by some people over on the Front Range of Colorado as Bruce the Videographer. Thats because Bruce Harper his real name was on the sideline when Rifle High Schools football team was playing Fort Morgan on Nov. 22 in the Class 3A semifinals at Bears Stadium in Rifle.

Harper was a volunteer videographer for Rifle-based Align Multimedia, which is co-owned by Ryan Mackley and Aron Diaz. Mackley, who has been producing highlight videos of Rifle High football since VHS tapes were cool, had known Harper for years and didnt hesitate to say yes when Harper offered to help take footage for those highlight videos. Harper drove from one end of the state to the other on his own dime to record Rifles football team.

Then, he got footage of an incident unlike any he ever expected while he was on Fort Morgans sideline. It was of Fort Morgan Athletic Director Kyle Bules.

It was the first time that Id seen him, Harper said.

According to documents obtained by the Post Independent through the Colorado Open Records Act, Bules might label Harper as Bruce the Liar, or maybe Bruce the Play Caller. A letter that Bules wrote to the Colorado High School Activities Association dated Nov. 24, 2014, might as well have called the school wearing blue and gold Rifle the Cheaters.

The letter said Bruce the Plumber was calling in our plays from the Mustangs sideline.

Bruce the Plumber feels sick about it.

This has been the biggest rip in my gut, Bruce Harper said. Why do they go after the program and the kids? Ive lost a lot of sleep over this.
