Here’s what is new for Arizona hotel and resort industry heading into 2021 – AZ Big Media - December 16, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

The past several years have been a time of great change at first very good and now a bit more challenging (to say the least) for the Arizona hotel and lodging industry. Certainly, the impact of COVID-19 has been felt far and wide across the globe, with perhaps no group hit harder than those around the world working within travel and tourism sectors, including the millions of people employed by hospitality, food and beverage businesses of every shape and size. But, with steely resolve, Arizona hospitality forges ahead. Some recently completed significant upgrades. Others made the move to launch entirely new properties. And others are working toward opening over the next year, with still so much in the world uncertain.

A tip of the hat to those whove endeavored through any of the above given the challenges faced today. Among them, these forward-thinking Arizona hotels and resorts, including those that have re-imagined or reinvented themselves in the past year-plus, those that have opened, and those soon to open:

Earlier this year, Sanctuary unveiled a series of sweeping renovations and refreshments to its private villa collection. Rebranded as The Villas at Sanctuary, these eight architecturally distinctive mountain homes offer resort guests the intimacy of a private retreat with full access to Sanctuarys award-winning resort amenities, from the world-class Sanctuary Spa to critically acclaimed dining at elements restaurant and jade bar to a wide array of recreational activities. Now known as Villa del Sol, Villa Roca, Villa Montana, Villa Mesa, Villa Luna, Villa Norte, and Villa Ventana, the eight villas occupy more than an acre of land each and feature amenities ranging from private pools and Jacuzzis to wrap-around terraces and home theaters. Several have undergone changes in the past year ranging from complete transformations to modest remodeling.

In the early spring, Lake Powell Resort the only lodging inside Glen Canyon National Recreation Area reopened its signature restaurant, the Rainbow Room, after a head-to-toe renovation. Since the panoramic views of Lake Powell have always taken center stage from the dramatic floor to ceiling windows, the dcor needed to complement the views. As such, a fresh palette of earthy desert tones in the new flooring and furnishings define the contemporary sophistication, upholstered in rich shades of dark chocolate accented with cloth napkins in teal. New sleek custom lighting gives the restaurant a feeling of both elegant and inviting. New outdoor furnishings were also added to further enhance a relaxed and sublime dining experience.

The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Arizonas largest and longest-running AAA Five Diamond hotel, recently completed an impressive renovation of 458 standard guest rooms and 20 luxury suites. The new guest room design features a soft, tranquil desert dcor with clean, modern lines and furnishings; custom designed-mattresses and cool, crisp new bedding; modernized bathrooms with sleek, polished stone and oversized walk-in showers replacing the Mexican tile and bathtubs; and meaningful technology upgrades, including an Echo Dot with an Ask the Princess menu to answer guests most frequently asked questions. The upgrade also included an update to the famed Princess Pool, which was the first of the six pools to open with the resort in 1987 and recognized as one of the Top Ten Pools in America. The pool deck is now a single level with eight new cabanas and added seating, offering sweeping views of the McDowell Mountains and TPC Scottsdale. Two new whirlpools were also added as was a new waterside eatery and communal bar area.

This year, Wild Horse Pass broke ground on a $143 million expansion project in Chandler. Scheduled to open in fall 2021, at the center of the expansion project is a new 11-story hotel tower, which adds 205 guestrooms including six poolside suites, 27 tower suites and two 1,500-square-foot Platinum Suites. The expansion will feature an added 18,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and 4,000 square feet of outdoor meeting space as well as new amenities including an oversized oasis pool area with two hot tubs, full-service cabanas and access to the Bar & Grill and a new adult pool. The casino floor will also be revamped with new carpeting, color palette, lighting fixtures and a LED screen overhanging the floor stretching 80 feet wide and 12 feet tall. Every new element will be finished with custom artwork from 17 different artists who reside in the Gila River Indian Community.

Talking Stick Resort recently announced a host of new amenities slated to open in early-to-mid 2021. Notably, the enhancement will bring a new restaurant, new bar and significant renovations to its high-limit lounge. The restaurant will be modern and upscale with a Mediterranean influence. It will feature hand-crafted cocktails with fresh, local fruits, herbs and vegetables. Dining will be comprised of booths and tables for nearly 60, a full bar and patio as well as floor to ceiling windows offering amazing views.

Downstairs, final plans are still being made, but the planned bar called Sage Bar will surprise and delight with a bevy of new offerings.

ADERO Scottsdale debuted in October following a $100 million investment as a Marriott International Autograph Collection. With its elevated views of Arizonas famed Four Peaks and McDowell Mountain Range, ADERO is Scottsdales only Dark Sky Zone resort boasting 177 guest rooms including 16 oversized suites, fitness activities, nature experiences, art, wellness cuisine, and culture. Spanning across 55,000 acres of Sonoran Desert, with endless adventure at its fingertips, the propertys Adventure Concierge offers morning to night hikes, biking excursions led by McDowell Cycling, astrology sessions with on-property Star Dudes and more, to connect guests to the wonder of its natural setting. Guests can recharge with featured wellness cocktails or desert-inspired treatments at ADEROs boutique spa, or dine at its signature restaurant, CIELO meaning sky, which will offer one of the best views in Scottsdale and an inventive cuisine created with regionally sourced ingredients.

Designed as a natural extension of Scottsdales historic arts district, Canopy by Hilton Scottsdale Old Town opened in October and offers a vibrant Southwest energy infused with Mid-Century Modern sophistication in every aspect of its architecture, aesthetic, service and culture. The seven-story, full-service hotel offers a variety of locally inspired amenities that create a lively and energetic space to work, rest and play from early morning to late-night, including a state-of-the-art fitness center with Technogym equipment; the ground-floor signature restaurant, Cobre Kitchen & Cocktails showcasing a menu of thoughtful cuisine with an emphasis on Southwest touches and locally sourced ingredients; and Outrider Rooftop Lounge, the rooftop pool and bar that elevates the Scottsdale social scene with crafted cocktails, posh bites and unrivaled views of the Camelback Mountain.

Also opened in recent months, Canopy by Hilton Tempe Downtown is a contemporary hotel nestled in the heart of vibrant downtown Tempe. The distinctive hotel offers 198 spacious guest rooms and suites with a modern aesthetic inspired by the spirit of the Southwest. Spanning 14 floors and amenities include approximately 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space, an expansive private fitness center with a wellness flex space and a rooftop pool deck including a terrace bar, cabanas and a fire pit. The hotels signature restaurant, Alter Ego, features modern American fusion cuisine crafted with locally-sourced ingredients and regional dishes. The 14th floor rooftop bar, Alibi, provides a scenic venue for gathering, tapas-style light bites and a curated local cocktail menu.

On track to open in Sedona in the fall of 2021, Ambiente will be comprised of 40 cubed-shaped guest atriums elevated above the ground by steel piers. Each atrium will offer striking 360-degree views of Sedonas famous red rocks and the surrounding Coconino National Forest. Built using matte-charcoal colored metal and floor-to-ceiling, bronze-tinted glass walls, many atriums will have access to their own private rooftop decks with a secure staircase for the ultimate sunbathing and stargazing experience. The center of the property, a lagoon-inspired pool and spa surrounded by private cabanas will be positioned contiguous to an open-air Poolside Lounge serving fresh, farm-to-table cuisine and locally-sourced juices. The Lounge will house a full service, indoor/outdoor bar complete with multiple TVs, ample lounge seating, fire pits and a catering kitchen.

EV startup Lordstown and RV seller Camping World are partnering to create the first fully electric RV in the U – Business Insider India - December 16, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

Lordstown Motors and Camping World are partnering to create a comprehensive electric vehicle-targeted plan that includes the electrification of RVs.

As part of the partnership, the two companies will also work with RV makers like Thor and Forest Rivers to create battery packs that replace onboard generators for road travel vehicles like travel trailers, Camping World chairman and CEO Marcus Lemonis said during the joint press conference announcing the partnership.

However, road travel electrification doesn't just stop at battery making. According to Lemonis, the partnership will run "the entire gamut," from creating battery packs that enable travel trailers to go off-grid, to building out an electric motorized RV.

"Our goal is to make sure that the electrification of RVs doesn't start or stop with anything," Lemonis said.

Besides road travel, the partnership was also created to set up a "national electric vehicle service and collision network" for Lordstown Motor's vehicles, which include the upcoming Lordstown Endurance electric pickup truck, according to a joint news release announcing the partnership.

Hot Property: Katy Perry looks to sell in Beverly Hills – Los Angeles Times - October 20, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

Katy Perry is eyeing a quick profit in the 90210. The pop star just listed her secluded retreat for $7.95 million, or half a million more than she paid in 2018.

Probably used as a guesthouse, the property sits just down the street from her main home, which she picked up for $18 million in 2017, records show. Found in the Beverly Hills Post Office area, the property covers nearly an acre in the guard-gated enclave of Hidden Valley and centers on a traditional-style home of a little more than 4,400 square feet.

A spacious motor court kicks things off. The main entrance is found on the far end of the property, and to get there, visitors must walk the length of the home past a landscaped yard with an oval swimming pool.

White walls and hardwood floors make up the living spaces, which are sandwiched between two wings that bookend the home. One wing holds a bedroom suite with an office-gym, and the other houses the primary suite with a lounge, veranda and dual closets.

A native of Santa Barbara, Perry has released six studio albums over the last two decades with hits such as Roar, Firework, Teenage Dream and I Kissed a Girl. The 35-year-old released her latest record, Smile, in August and gave birth to her daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, the same month.

If she finds a buyer, itll be her second home sale in as many years. A month after getting engaged to Orlando Bloom in February 2019, she sold her Hollywood Hills compound with a Mediterranean-style home, guesthouse and amphitheater to restaurateur Michael Chow for about $12.7 million.

Brett Lawyer of Hilton & Hyland holds the listing.

Poison frontman quickly finds a fan

That was fast. Poison frontman Bret Michaels just sold his Westlake Village retreat for $4.48 million, finding a buyer a day after he put the property on the market.

In August, Michaels told The Times that he planned to move back to his old neighborhood of Calabasas, where he sold his previous home for $3.4 million in 2016.

The rock star owned the Westlake Village estate for five years, buying it for $3.49 million in 2015 and transforming it with an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living. Across 2.6 acres, the amenity-loaded home with a Mediterranean style has a custom pool and spa, a cabana and a sports court all surrounded by manicured lawns and stone patios.

Inside, dramatic living spaces are finished with stone, wood and tile. A chandelier and sweeping staircase anchor the two-story foyer, and further in, columns frame spaces such as a billiards room and step-down living room.

Arched doorways navigate the two-story floor plan with a chefs kitchen, rounded breakfast nook, movie theater, office and gym. Another highlight comes in the family room which Michaels called his rock-star party room complete with a wine cellar, fireplace and wraparound bar.

Six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms complete the 6,700-square-foot floor plan. Outside, towering palms and mature trees create secluded spaces concealed from the neighbors.

Jordan Cohen of RE/Max One held the listing.

    Looking for a friendly deal

A few months ago, Matthew Perry listed his penthouse in the sky. Now hes selling his home in the sand. The Friends star recently put his Malibu beach house on the market for $14 million, records show.

Thats $2 million more than the actor paid in 2011 when he bought the property from Scott Gillen, a high-profile developer who owns a slew of Malibu properties.

Perrys place is covered in wood and glass. Spanning 5,500 square feet, it overlooks the ocean from two stories of modern indoor-outdoor living spaces.

A two-sided fireplace anchors the main level, separating a sunny dining area and modern kitchen from a living room with a ping-pong table. Dramatic beams top the entire space.

The primary suite covers most of the upper level, with a spa bathroom, lounge and private deck. In total, there are four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, as well as a movie theater with tiered seating.

A wraparound deck set high off the sand lines the back of the home. To the side, a private patio encloses a hot tub.

Perry, 51, has kept busy since his days playing Chandler Bing on Friends, appearing on the shows Mr. Sunshine, The Good Wife and The Odd Couple. More recently, he played Ted Kennedy on the television miniseries The Kennedys: After Camelot.

Josh Flagg of Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles and Bobby Boyd, both with Rodeo Realty Beverly Hills, hold the listing.

Suns star sells his home court

Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker just closed a deal in the desert, selling his Arizona home for $3.45 million, records show.

Thats about $750,000 shy of his February asking price but still $200,000 more than he paid in 2017. A year after picking up the property, he inked a five-year deal with the Suns worth $158 million.

The estate spans an acre in Paradise Valley, a suburb of Phoenix about 15 miles northeast of the teams stadium. Built in 2016, it boasts a sleek, modern style (and a surprising amount of green space given its desert setting).

Wood accents and glass walls touch up whitewashed, minimalist living spaces, including an indoor-outdoor great room and dining room with wine storage. Elsewhere are four bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, a theater room and office across 5,600 square feet.

Theres plenty of space to entertain outside, as a massive covered patio with a fireplace extends to a fountain-fed swimming pool and spa. Grassy lawns, drought-tolerant gardens and a courtyard fill out the rest of the grounds.

After leading Kentucky to a nearly perfect season in 2014-15, Booker was drafted by the Suns in 2015. Last year, he became the youngest player in NBA history to record consecutive 50-point games; this year, he was named an All-Star for the first time in addition to leading his team to an 8-0 record inside the NBA bubble in Orlando, Fla.

Bookers brother, Davon Wade, held the listing with Kirk Linehan of eXp Realty. Scott Grigg of Realty Executives represented the buyer.

Polo estate hits the auction block

If youre planning to bid on Patrick Nesbitts sprawling estate in Summerland, youd better bring a few million. The 20-acre spread, once listed at $65 million, will be auctioned off to the highest bidder with no reserve through Concierge Auctions from Nov. 16-19.

Nesbitt, a hotelier and chief executive of Windsor Capital Group, has been shopping the property around since 2016. Records show he trimmed the asking price to $55 million earlier this year.

Sprawling across an ocean-view bluff near Montecito, the property revolves around polo; theres a 10-acre regulation polo field, a custom equestrian sculpture, a 17-horse barn and multiple spots to host polo matches, including a clubhouse with a series of terraces.

Polo is not the propertys only claim to fame. In 2009, the scenic estate served as the backdrop for Britney Spears music video Radar.

Structures across the grounds combine for 43,000 square feet with seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The main house, a Mediterranean-style mansion, is full of formal spaces with crystal chandeliers, intricate ceilings, oversize drapes and mahogany finishes.

The home holds a few secrets as well. A rooftop deck is reached by a hidden door in the entry rotunda, and theres also a secluded wine cellar with a tasting room.

Indoor amenities include a movie theater, lounge, ballroom, sports bar and spa with a sauna and massage room. Outside, theres a rooftop hot tub, a 128-foot infinity pool, a driving range with sand traps and a butterfly habitat surrounded by horse trails, duck ponds and English- and Japanese-style gardens.

The online auction is being held in cooperation with listing agents Rick Hilton and Rodrigo Iglesias of Hilton & Hyland.

Watermark Residential has acquired nearly 21 acres in Colorado Springs, Colo., to begin development of Ascent by Watermark, a 360-unit luxury multifamily community that would be the companys second property in the city. Construction is scheduled to begin later this month with an expected completion date of fall 2022.

Watermark Residential, a wholly owned affiliate of Thompson Thrift, has delivered eight additional luxury multifamily projects in the Denver MSA since completing its first property in the area in 2015. Earlier this year, Watermark sold the 244-unit Watermark on Union in Colorado Springs to NALS Apartment Homes.

Jessica Tuttle, Watermarks vice president of development, West region, said in prepared remarks that Colorado Springs dynamic growth has produced robust demand for apartments. The market has strong fundamentals with an average home value of nearly $400,000 and 2.3 percent job growth for the region. In 2019, Colorado Springs was ranked No. 1 on the U.S. News and World Reports Most Desirable Places to Live: 2019. Multi-Housing News placed it No. 2 on its list of up-and-coming cities for new apartments in September 2019.

Ascent by Watermark is a 20-minute drive from downtown Colorado Springs. The site is near major employers including Fort Carson, the U.S. Armys largest installation in Colorado, which employs more than 30,000 people. Its also adjacent to the St. Francis Medical Center North, which last year opened a new $102 million emergency center. Located on the southeast corner of Tutt Boulevard and Powerwood View, Ascent by Watermark also offers easy access to numerous retailers and restaurants.

The three-story, resort-style apartment community will offer one-, two- and three-bedroom units that average just less than 1,000 square feet. Each apartment will feature gourmet bar-kitchens with quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, walk-in closets, garden tubs, full-size washers and dryers and designer light fixtures. Many of the homes will have detached garages.

Ascent by Watermark will be a gated community and offers a professionally designed clubhouse with TVs, conference rooms and technology centers; fitness center with Fitness on Demand virtual training kiosks and spinning rooms; a swimming pool with cabanas and entertainment areas; dog parks and pet spas. The property will have an on-site management team.

Its been a busy few weeks for the national multifamily development firm. Last week, construction began on Avenue64 by Watermark, a 316-unit community in the St. Louis suburb of OFallon, Mo. The property is slated for completion in August 2022 and will be the companys fourth apartment asset developed in Missouri.

Just last month, Watermark Residential announced it had acquired approximately 24 acres in Grand Rapids, Mich., where it will develop The Grove by Watermark, a 320-unit, Class A luxury multifamily community and the companys first project in Michigan.

Earlier this year, Watermark acquired 23 acres in Kansas City, Mo., to develop The Element by Watermark, a 276-unit, garden-style apartment community.
