Flurry of construction at Classen Curve to fulfill late energy tycoon’s vision – Oklahoman.com - October 20, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

A boutique hotel, ritzy townhouses and 326 upscale apartments are being built on the last undeveloped tracts of Classen Curve, fulfilling the vision of its founder, the late Aubrey McClendon.

All three projects started over the past few months, defying an economic downturn triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Once completed, residents and guests will be in walking distance of the citys only Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, more than 15 restaurants, and an array of retail, salons and fitness centers.

Ryan Slater, developer of the $30 million Ellison, began planning for the hotel after buying the property at 6201 N Western five years ago. Construction started in March just as the pandemic began hitting Oklahoma.

We certainly lucked out having financing in place for our project and that it will be a nice size hotel, said Slater, managing partner of Plains Management Group. The apartments were another piece in the original plans and were all happy to be starting at the same time.

The Ellison is named after legendary Oklahoma author Ralph Ellison, and is designed to introduce visitors to the artistic side of Oklahoma by creating partnerships with local galleries, artists, creative programming, and events. The efforts are being coordinated with the non-profit Ralph Ellison Foundation.

The hotel is furthest along among the three developments with the steel structure topping three stories and completion set for late 2021. When completed, the six-story hotel will span 75,000 square feet with 120 guest rooms, a restaurant to be operated by restaurateurs Chris Lower and Joseph Royer, a rooftop swimming pool and bar, and 7,000 square feet of meeting space, including a ballroom and library lounge.

Foundation work is underway on the remainder of the block between Grand Boulevard and Western Avenue where The Residences at Classen Curve is being built.

The five-story apartments are being promoted as an upscale development featuring resort-style amenities including multiple private outdoor courtyards, a heated pool, fitness center, club room, library, outdoor dog run, modern package facilities, and bicycle storage to take advantage of adjacency to the Lake Hefner bike trail.

This $10 Million Sportsmans Estate Will Let You Have Your Own Field of Dreams – Robb Report - October 3, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

Want to practice your knuckleball? This 18-acre gated property has you covered. Prefer a game of one-on-one? The court is all yours. Or maybe the serenity of rod and reel are more your style? The spring-fed pond is fully stocked.

This incredible home, listed for $9.9 million, in Lucas, Texas, just north of Dallas, has all a sports enthusiast could ask for (well, minus the indoor hockey rink). The turf baseball field even has dugouts, covered seating and separate pitching and batting cages. The fenced-in basketball court is regulation size, and the putting green area includes a fire pit and heated floors for year-round comfort. Swimming in the pond is a population of bass, catfish and seasonal trout. If you prefer fewer fins with your own swim, theres always the 85,000-gallon backyard pool.

And thats just the outside. Inside, the single-story home sprawls across 8,000 square feet. Floor-to-ceiling windows onto all that the outdoors has to offer stretch across the vast open living space.

All five bedrooms are ensuite, with heated floors, electric shades and a convenient laundry room in the primary suite.

The game room includes a wet bar and half bath with direct access to the pool deck and its cabanas. The collection of signed football helmets showcased in the room are available for sale for an additional fee. The media room has its own kitchen area, so snacks are close at hand during those movie marathons.

The main kitchen includes Sub-Zero appliances, two dishwashers, alderwood cabinetry and a massive island. The home has a built-in smart system and can be controlled from the owners cellphone. Inside the home office, the overhead fan is made from an actual jet propeller.

If the three-car garage cant hold your complete collection, theres one more, a single climate-controlled garage that could also double as a fitness studio if you cant get your workout in using one of the outdoor sports spaces.

On the back deck, find two hot tubs in addition to the pool and an air-conditioned cabana. Plenty of covered terrace spaces unite the outdoor kitchen with the deck.

A covered seating area with its own wet bar juts out into the pond for an all-day respite.

The private pond.Photo: Realtor Media Source

While the entire property at 1010 Wendy Lane feels like a private resort, the current owners kept preparedness in mind: A private well and underground rainwater storage tanks provide water for the entire estate, and there is a backup generator and two 1,000-gallon propane tanks on site in case of emergency.

The listing is held by Karen Cuskey-Hartman of Coldwell Banker.

Why a tea pavilion is the new luxury accessory in super-prime homes – Telegraph.co.uk - October 3, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

Is it a summer house? Is it a gazebo or even a cabana? Absolutely not. Its a tea pavilion and if you want to keep up with the Sussexes, youll be building one in your garden this Autumn.

Among the sprawling acres of Harry and Meghans Montecito estate, somewhere between the childrens cottage, guest house and swimming pool, is the teahouse a nod to the ancient Japanese tradition of retreating to a small, simple wooden building (known as a chashitsu) in the garden to drink tea and leave behind the commotion of the city.

Done properly, guests should perform certain rituals before taking part in a tea ceremony, including washing their hands and mouths to purify their body and spirit, and removing their shoes. Who knows whether Meghan will insist on such protocol from her starry guests one imagines she probably does. But she is not the only resident of this Southern Californian millionaires enclave to have a tea pavilion in her garden.

The neighbouring Somerset Estate an early 20th century house set on 1.6 acres in Montecitos Golden Quadrangle - also features a teahouse near the pool. The truth is, few tea pavilions will actually house a traditional tea party, says Cristal Clarke from Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices in Montecito, who is marketing the property for $7.495m.

What they do provide is an oasis of calm in an incredibly civilised setting where the owner can feel at one with nature. It acts as a statement piece and we often see these spaces filled with scatter cushions, candles and wind chimes, Clarke adds.

Schoolcations are trying to lure parents who have had it with remote learning – CNBC - October 3, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

With elementary and high school around the worldattending school virtually this fall, hotels are selling an unlikely travel opportunity the "schoolcation."

Families are being enticed from their homes by hotels promising a change of scenery alongside tutoring, round-the-clock tech help and after-school activities that are more fun than what's available back home.

Kimpton Hotels is tackling one of the most teeth-gnashing roles parents have undertaken since many schools shuttered this spring the job of unpaid tech-supportstaff.

"In hearing from parents, one of the biggest pain points with virtual learning is getting their kids signed in and online especially for those who have young children while managing their own workload and meetings," said Kathleen Reidenbach, Kimpton's chief commercial officer. "Our goal is to provide some relief for parents traveling with kids and get the set-up portion of online learning off their plate."

School supplies and snacks are provided to kids taking virtual classes at select Kimpton hotels.

    Courtesy of Kimpton Muse Hotel

The hotel brand has installed "Chief Virtual Learning Officers" to help kids with everything from Zoom log-ins to printing problems. Thoseofficers, who can be called as needed or booked in advance, also provide snacks, school supplies and kid-sized desks.

Reidenbach said the program evolved from Kimpton's "Work from Hotel" packages and changing travel trends caused by remote schooling.

"We're seeing family vacations increasingly extend into the fall," she told CNBC's Global Traveler.

The pilot program is launching at nine Kimpton locations in the U.S. and Canada, with some allowing additional rooms to be booked during school hours from $79 per day.

Luxury travelers can enroll kids from 6 to 17 years old in Montage Academy, a back-to-school package launched on Sept. 8 that comes with access to a "study hall" and round-the-clock virtual tutoring on more than 180 subjects through Tutor.com, a service owned by The Princeton Review.

"We've transformed meeting spaces at each property into a dedicated study hall," said Jason Herthel, president and chief operating officer of Montage International. The halls have staff "who greet students, proctor the room and answer questions, ensure social distancing, assist with IT needs, coordinate lunch arrival and movement breaks throughout the day, andfacilitate the afternoon elective."

Montage Los Cabos charges $125 per day or $500 per week for the Montage Academy program.

    Courtesy of Montage International

One "elective" is provided per day, and options from woodshop and cooking to fly-fishing and astronomy vary by hotel.

The program was created to help families during this "very unusual time" said Herthel.

It's available at Montage hotels in Park City, Utah; Laguna Beach, California; Bluffton, South Carolina, and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Families who want to experience history, rather than just study it, can explore the Grand Back to School Package at Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel. Launched on Aug. 21, the program combines virtual study time with activities around the island, which is a National Historic Landmark in Lake Huron, Michigan.

Mackinac Island and the Grand Hotel are both National Historic Landmarks, a recognition by the U.S. government of historic places with "national significance."

    Courtesy of Grand Hotel

"The package was launched as a way to encourage guests to make Grand Hotel their home base during this time of virtual learning and remote working," said Doug Dean, executive vice president of operations at Grand Hotel. "At the end of the day, families can take a break to spend time outdoors and experience everything Mackinac Island has to offer."

The hotel, which first opened in 1887, created a study space for kids within its 22,000-square-foot meeting room. The space has socially-distanced work areas and a staff member to assist with computer-related issues.

Kids at Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel can take carriage rides, play lawn games and listen to talks given by the resident historian on the hotel porch.

    Courtesy of Grand Hotel

Dean said 13 families have participated to date.

"We are seeing shorter booking windows more than ever before and anticipate the interest will pick up in October as more families become aware of the option and start to feel more comfortable to travel away from home," he told CNBC.

Children 17 and younger stay free under the program, which includes two daily meals, golf for kids, and admission and discounts to local museums and attractions.

Kids who struggle to finish their virtual work may have a new incentive to complete their classes rollicking afternoons in Walt Disney World's four theme parks.

Four Seasons Resort Orlando has an onsite lazy river, two water slides and a 7,590 square-foot family pool with an underwater audio system.

    Don Riddle | Four Seasons

Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, located north of Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco, Mexico, announced a new "Knowledge for All Seasons" program for remote learners. The program includes 24-hour tech support, study buddies to help with classwork and reserved pool and beach "study cabanas" outfitted with monitors, Wi-Fi, portable chargers and snacks.

Kids can also learn about Mexico'shistory, cuisine and culture at the hotel through arts and crafts workshops and language lessons.

Kids at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita can sign up for outdoor activities including yoga, surfing, tennis and golf lessons.

Courtesy of Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita

At the nearby The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, "workcations" come with workstations and happy hours for parents and academic assistance for the kids.

The hotel can help coordinate classes or private tutoring through The Punta Mita Homeschool, a local company that can assist with distance learning or coordinate art, music, sports or Spanish language lessons.

The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort is located within a 1,500-acre resort and residential community north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The company also holds Saturday morning environmental projects, such as turtle release programs and beach cleanups.

Jersey holidays: A stunning weekend on the UK’s very own tiny paradise island – Express - October 3, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

The largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey is just a one-hour plane journey from London Heathrow or a four-hour ferry ride from Poole. Yet on arrival, the island promises aquamarine waters, vast stretches of white sand beaches and glorious golden sunsets which will trick you into thinking youve gone much further from home.

St Hellier is the islands main hub and home to the luxurious Royal Yacht Hotel.

Though St Hellier is by far not the most scenic spot on the island, it is a good location to anchor yourself, with bars, restaurants and amenities all within walking distance.

The Royal Yacht itself is a four-star hotel which promises a comfortable nights sleep and a spa open to all hotel guests ready for when you wake up.

There are five levels of room to choose from, with options ranging from Silver Double to Penthouse Suite. Meanwhile, every room also comes with a complimentary buffet breakfast served up by staff in line with new COVID-19 regulations.

READ MORE:Airport testing: Traveller reveals what the experience is like

While the hotel boasts plenty of amenities, Jerseys stunning surroundings will likely lure you out of your room for most of the day - and potentially some of the night too. Though Jersey is just nine miles long and five miles wide, it is home to swathes of activities and breathtaking ocean vistas at every turn. Whether youre an outdoor explorer and adventure seeker or prefer to relax and unwind while travelling, theres an experience for every taste.

Beach trips and ocean pursuits are undoubtedly at the centre of the islands experience.

On a particularly hot summer day, some of its beaches are transformed into a surfers paradise - St Ouens Bay is particularly promising rideable waves and a huge stretch of golden sand.

As daylight turns to dusk, grab a drink at surf shack Watersplash and water the sunset sinking below the horizon. Alternatively, spend a balmy day on the water at St Brelades Bay with Absolute Adventures.

Here sporty water babies can pick from all manner of activities, from stand up paddleboarding (SUP) to kayaking or even embark on a spine-tingling coasteering tour with trained experts. In our case, we took on a morning of SUP- if youre a first-timer be prepared, you might get a little wet before you find your balance.

Along with plenty of aqua activities, St Brelade is also home to several eateries, including the delicious Kismet Cabana.

This small but fruitful beach shack offers outdoor dining and an option to take away for those who prefer to hunker down on the sand while watching the tide roll in.

For those who prefer to stay on dry land, there are plenty of coastal walks to enjoy.

VisitJersey offers an array of self-guided walks in all corners of the island, but one in particular promising dazzling views is Plmont Bay.

Situated at the North of the island, Plmont Bay is a stunning rugged coastline which looks out to the surprisingly sparkling waters of the English Channel.

Along the way expect plenty of hidden gems too, including rockpools and waterfalls.

If youre looking to explore the Channel further, join Jersey Seafaris on an incredible ocean tour promising close-encounters with local wildlife, as well as the opportunity to step ashore at Les crhous.

Zip out to sea in a high-speed RIB - a fast-paced inflatable boat - and prepare to be greeted by dolphins and seals along the way.

Guides will offer information about local wildlife, as well as introducing visitors to the intriguing history of crhous.

The small group of Jersey-owned islands sit just six miles (9.6 km) north-east of Jersey and eight miles (12.8 km) off the coast of France.

The rocky landscape is made all the more intriguing by the tiny homes built into its rugged facade. The clear waters are perfect for swimming, and on low-tide days moonlike sandbanks emerge to offer a perfect place to rest mid-swim.

After a busy day exploring all the island has to offer, Jersey boasts an abundance of incredible restaurants serving up dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients.

As you might imagine, the islands seaside surroundings make for plenty of ocean-themed dishes.

One restaurant boasting a delicious range of options is the Jersey Crab Shack.

The small, family-owned chain offers everything from California-style crab tacos to creamy crab linguine.

Luckily for me, though its roots are in seafood, the restaurant also serves up a number of tasty vegetarian options too.

Though Jersey is certainly one for adventurers and action lovers, it also provides moments of calm amongst the excitement.

For us, this meant a stop at The Club Hotel and Spa.

The five-star boutique hotel and spa is also home to the Michelin starred Bohemia Bar & Restaurant, a rooftop cocktail garden and both indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

With a robust menu of treatments across five treatment rooms, including a couples treatment room and a Rasul mudroom, there are plenty of ways to find your zen.

For those looking to refresh skin and revitalise the body, try out the Pure Detox Envelopement which uses marine algae rich in minerals to boost the bodys natural detoxifying process.

Spa guests can then enjoy a dip in the spas thermal suite, or on sunnier days head to the small pool tucked away in a beautiful outdoor oasis complete with tropical greenery and its own, tranquil waterfall.

Though we spent just three days in Jersey, our trip only scratched the surface of what this delightful island has to offer.

One thing is for certain though, regardless of where you choose to explore, or what you decide to do, Jersey has the power to blow you away.

The tiny island with a big spirit, Jersey is perhaps the ultimate UK holiday hotspot to transport you to paradise.

Andre Kutyan knew several agents with clients seeking multimillion-dollar homes, such as this five-bedroom residence on a 50-foot lot, so he arranged preview tours for qualified buyers before it opened to the public late May. Coupled with Coming Soon promotions, more than a dozen parties turned up in the following weeks.

The summer is quieter in these areas like Lytton Park, Lawrence Park, Forest Hill and Rosedale because there are a lot of cottagegoers in the area, but theres very little inventory available, Mr. Kutyan said.

We didnt sell it over asking, but we still did well given there were two other competing offers.

This 105-year-old house has roughly 4,600 square feet of living space, with both formal living and dining rooms and more casual family areas. There is backyard access from the main and lower levels.

Several of the main floor rooms have coffered ceilings and there are three gas fireplaces and seven bathrooms. Outside, theres a cabana in the partly converted garage servicing the salt water pool and cedar sauna.

The house has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

Rarely do I see an addition/renovation to this calibre; its like a new house, Mr. Kutyan said.

[Plus], its got a third level, which could be an extra bedroom or working space, which is a big deal.

The average lot size in Lytton Park is 134- or 135-feet deep, while this is 170, which allowed for them to have a pool, a lot of green space and nice, big ipe deck, Mr. Kutyan said.

A lot of people are getting stuck at home, looking for these kinds of homes where they can entertain, use the pool and dont have to leave the city or go on holiday. Theyve got everything at their fingertips.
