Olney Woman Angry Over Unfinished Roofing Job - September 20, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

    OLNEY -

Mary Russell feels victimized after she says a roofing job on her rowhome ended with a mess left behind.

"They didn't do the work," she said. "They left trash on my roof."

Russell hired a Kensington roofing company to remove and replace her roof shingles.

    The price: $2000.

According to the paperwork for the job, the contractor was also supposed to remove all of the trash. But when a neighbor recently checked his own roof, he saw shingles left on the 63-year-old's roof.

"It says remove all trash," Russell said. "They did not do that."

Russell called the contractor and demanded the materials be cleaned up. He said he would do it, but it would cost her.

"They told me they went bankrupt the same day they did the work," she explained.

Finally, Russell hired another contractor to remove the trash from her roof. That cost her $500 more.

ASAP Contracting and Roofing to hire 50 new Sales Representatives - September 19, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

COLUMBIA, Md., Sept. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ --During a time when unemployment is in double digits, families are filing bankruptcy, and corporate america is downsizing, ASAP Contracting and Roofing has doubled its sales for the last 3 years in a row. They have outgrown their old office, moved into a new office twice the size, and now they're looking to expand again.

ASAP's President of Operations claims they have a product that they believe in, their representatives believe in, and their customers love. "We help homeowners in a time of need. They have just been through a catastrophic event and they need help now. Sure there are other companies that claim to do what we do, but the simple fact is...they don't or they're unable to."

When a catastrophe occurs like a devastating tornado, hurricane, or Major Hail Storm, ASAP Contracting dispatches Field Representatives, and Crews within 24 to 48 hours to help local communities mitigate damages. They are helping homeowners by putting plywood over windows, tarps over skylights or whole roofs, pretty much whatever it takes to prevent more damage from occurring. But it doesn't stop there. They inspect the damage that has occurred and works with homeowners and insurance companies to get repairs completed. Any repairs we complete are in strict accordance to local, state, and federal codes. "Anytime we do repairs we research the applicable codes and those become the minimums we will use when completing repairs. In most cases we are way beyond local code requirements. We use Owens Corning synthetic underlayment on roofs, we use premium house wrap on siding projects, and never use the minimum amount of fasteners on anything. Our work would make Miami Dade County Proud." (For those of you who do not know what that means, Miami Dade County one of the strictest building code requirements in the country.)

ASAP Contracting & Roofing is an insurance restoration company. We work with homeowners and insurance companies after catastrophic events to complete restorations quick and painless.

Littleton Homeowner Claims Roofing Company To Blame For Rain Damage - September 14, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

Jessica Syta said rain damage for her roof could have been avoided. (credit: CBS)

LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4)- A Littleton homeowner says a roofing company left their job at her home incomplete and is to blame for the damage record rainfall caused there this week.

The rain that fell in the Denver metro area Wednesday set a record for the most rain in Denver on that date.

The roofing company admitted their workers should have never left the roof exposed overnight without putting a tarp in place.

The homeowner, Jessica Syta, said she had thousands of dollars worth of damage from the rain, damage that she claims could have been prevented.

A complete disaster, said Syta. I was perplexed as to being assured that my home was not open to any issues.

Syta gave CBS4 a tour of her home on Thursday with walls that had been stripped down to the studs and heat fans blowing nonstop to dry out the water damage. Her floors were soaked with rain.

Syta hired ASAP Roofing to replace her roof. The work was still in progress when she asked contractors if they needed to place a tarp over the roof knowing that rain was in the forecast.

She said they told her no and left a black covering as the only protection to the house.

When the storm hit and water started pouring into her home Syta said the roofing company was not responsive and took hours to return her calls.

Lawsuit: Roofing company negligent in Winthrop fire - September 13, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

ROCK HILL The state is accusing a Spartanburg-based roofing company of negligence and breach of contract because of a fire in a Winthrop University academic building in March 2010.

The lawsuit, filed by state Budget and Control Boards insurance division, does not specify how much money the university and the division are seeking.

Chief Otis Driggers of the Rock Hill Fire Department closed the case in late April 2010, saying fire investigators could not pinpoint exactly what caused the blaze at Winthrops Owens Hall.

The lawsuit, filed Sept. 5, claims Pickens Roofing and Sheet Metals improperly stored combustible construction materials on the roof of Bancroft Hall which is connected to the roof of Owens Hall prior to the March 6 fire.

Pickens Roofing was hired in August 2009 to repair an area described as the Bancroft Annex roof, a roof section connected to the building destroyed by the blaze. Winthrop paid Pickens Roofing $358,448 for the project.

The company violated building codes and industry standards by storing flammable roofing materials in the workspace, the state office alleges in the lawsuit.

Representatives from Pickens Roofing and Sheet Metals did not return calls Wednesday. The Pickens Roofing employee listed on the Winthrop contract no longer works for the company, another employee told The Herald on Wednesday.

Fire officials said in 2010 that the blaze, which burned for about 24 hours, started on a small section of flat roof outside the building where Owens Hall and Bancroft Annex join.

Monier CoolRoof up for grabs in CoolSchool Contest - September 11, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

    10 September 2012 | last updated at 11:24PM

SMK Canossa Convent is the fourth school to benefit from Moniers CSR programme to provide at least one school in each state of Malaysia with a Monier CoolRoof by 2014.

Monier CoolSchool is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme launched by Monier Malaysia in 2010.

Monier will be selecting two more schools for the programme in Johor and Negri Sembilan, via the Monier CoolSchool Contest, announced Monier Asia and Africa chief executive officer Georg Harrasser at the hand over of a new Monier CoolRoof to SMK Canossa Convent, here.

"Under our CSR programme, we are committed to provide free Monier CoolRoof to 14 schools in every state in Malaysia by 2014.

"Canossa Convent is the fourth school to benefit from the initiative.

"The others are SMK Sultan Abdul Samad in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, SK (P) Methodist Kuantan, Pahang, and SJK (C) Kong Min Pusat in Penang," he said.

Monier CoolRoof is an energy efficient roofing system that limits heat transfer through the roof by creating a natural airflow and heat barrier, thus reducing the temperature of a building by up to 10oC.

This results in less electricity usage, which will also reduce the impact on the environment.

The Monier CoolSchool Contest began on Sept 6 and ends on Oct 31. It is open to all primary and secondary schools in Johor and Negri Sembilan. Schools are required to explain in a creative story why they deserve a Monier CoolRoof.

Roofing firm get £50k work payment after Record steps in - September 11, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

ROOFING firm Southwest Roofing Services have praised the Record for helping them get the 50k payment they were owed.

A ROOFING firm who helped renovate a stately home saved by Prince Charles have finally been paid 50,000 after the Record stepped in.

Southwest Roofing Services were struggling to survive after the main contractors on a facelift of Dumfries House, in Ayrshire, held back payments for work carried out four months ago.

It was only after the Record took up their case that Taylor and Fraser, of Paisley, finally paid up.

Expert slaters Southwest, based in Stranraer, began a 245,000 contract in November.

Director Kevan McCulloch, 46, praised the Record after Taylor and Fraser paid the money they owed.

Kevan said: It was only when the Record got involved we finally got paid.

I cannot thank the Record enough for what they have done.

Last week, craftsman Jim Jarvie, of Airdrie-based JJ Building Refurbishment also thanked the Record for helping to save his business after he was handed a 10,000 cheque by Taylor and Fraser.

Taylor and Fraser said: There are no other issues outstanding.
