Key Factors involved in Second Story Additions … - May 8, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Second story home additions are argueably the most valuable home improvement out there. As stated before a professional, lisenced room addition contractor will not be able to even put on toolbags until local building departments give approval of zoning, building and planning regarding blueprints.

Most structural engineers agree that Second Story Additions are feasible for nearly every homeowner. 2nd Story Additions can always be easier if the weight of the new improvement spans the distance of the house and majority of weight is framed to existing exterior walls.

Some considerations that your remodeling home plan should account for however are related to age and condition of current structure. These can vary but predominately follow:

Well based on 30+ years experience probably not. Adding more square footage to your household means you will need to supplement this with a higher capacity system or just invest in a new unit for the new second story plan.

(Reuters) - Dish Network Corp, the second-largest U.S. satellite TV company, reported a better-than-expected 6 percent growth in quarterly revenue due to higher net subscriber additions.

The company added a net 40,000 subscribers in the quarter ended March 31. Wall Street analysts had expected the company to add a net 21,900 subscribers in the quarter ended March 31, according to market research firm StreetAccount.

Subscriber additions improved as the rate of cancellations fell to 1.42 percent from 1.47 percent a year earlier. The company ended the quarter with 14.1 million pay-TV subscribers.

Larger rival DirecTV reported a quarterly profit that beat analysts' estimates last week, helped by subscriber growth in Latin America and higher average revenue per user in the United States.

DirecTV is evaluating a possible combination with AT&T Inc, but it also thinks that AT&T could be more interested in buying Dish, Reuters said on Wednesday.

Net income attributable to Dish fell to $175.9 million, or 38 cents per share, from $215.6 million, or 47 cents per share, a year earlier as the company spent more on content and transmission. (r.reuters.com/hyn29v)

Analysts had expected a profit of 44 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Netflix UK buys Homeland and American Horror Story - May 4, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The two award-winning shows will be made available to Netflix subscribers from 13 March.

The move marks the latest deal between Netflix and Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, whose current shows on the streaming service include The Killing, Prison Break and Arrested Development.

Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix, said: We are excited to bring both of these brilliant series, Homeland and American Horror Story, to our members in the UK & Ireland.

These global smash series are two of the most talked about shows in entertainment, and we think that our members are going to love these latest two additions.

CIA thriller Homeland proved popular with British audiences during its first and second series, but saw a ratings slump when its third series aired on Channel 4 last year.

The Emmy award-winning series, which stars Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, has been renewed by Showtime for a fourth series.

American Horror Story is coming to Netflix UK this month

Seasons one and two of American Horror Story are mini-series that tell different self-contained stories.

Season one follows the story of a family that moves into a home haunted by its former deceased occupants, while series two centres on the inhabitants of an institution for the criminally insane.

The series stars Evan Peters (Kick-Ass), Jessica Lange (Big Fish, Tootsie) and Lily Rabe (The Good Wife, All Good Things).

Dunfermline 1 Rangers 1: The story of a season - May 4, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Ally McCoist's champions brought the curtain down on a lossless SPFL League 1 campaign with a draw away to the runners-up, but the way they made hard work of earning a point - against a team featuring 11 changes from their last outing - casts an ominous shadow over the challenges that surely lie ahead.

As the Rangers board continue to struggle to win over many fans - reports disclosing chief executive Graham Wallace's alleged remuneration package hours before kick-off being the latest contentious issue - a red-card demonstration by supporter groups the Union of Fans and Sons of Struth was widely backed by the 4,000-strong away crowd at East End Park.

With the threat of such fan disenagement adding to an already ambiguous financial picture at the club, it's difficult to predict what players McCoist will have at his disposal next season, but it is clear additions are needed.

The jump Rangers will be required to make this summer will be much bigger than the one they took in their stride 10 months ago, but manager Ally McCoist was content to look back rather than forward yesterday.

"To get 33 wins from 36 games is fabulous," he said of the unbeaten campaign. "The players will look back in a few years' time and be extremely proud of what they have achieved. The staff are unbelievably proud. It's a fantastic achievement."

Yesterday's draw brought more of the same from a team that has done enough to stroll through League 1 without much spring in their step. They had the majority of possession and Cammy Bell remained a virtual spectator in goal, but Rangers struggled to muster any sort of real threat, with Dean Shiels' early second-half goal one of the few occasions they actually managed to hit the target.

For long spells they were frustrated by a resolute home defence, Arnold Peralta and Fraser Aird often being ushered away without too much effort. The former rarely got the better of left-back Alex Whittle, who was a constant annoyance to Rangers at both ends of the park, with his delivery providing the assist for his team's leveller.

On the odd occasion Rangers managed to conjure something up they were largely wasteful. Early in the first half Lee McCulloch fired straight at Ryan Goodfellow in the home goal from an Aird corner. Shiels dragged a half-volley wide from six yards after a deft knockdown from Ian Black and Bilel Mohsni crashed a header off the bar seconds before the interval.

It took Rangers only 34 seconds after the break to finally gain an advantage. Jon Daly chested the ball to Nicky Law, who jinked inside the box to fire low at goal from 10 yards. Goodfellow did well to get down low to parry, but Shiels was on hand this time to slot underneath the goalkeeper.

However, the breakthrough did not have the effect of opening the floodgates as Dunfermline held their nerve, bided their time and took their chance when it came after 69 minutes.

Bell: Jets' additions are loaded with risk, reward - May 2, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Marty Mornhinweg was on the phone the other day, and the buzz coming from him was palpable.

The bubbly New York Jets offensive coordinator is the seemingly lucky chap who was granted his top three free agency wishes - his own version of The Triplets, sorely needed to inject some juice in a sputtering unit.

Eric Decker? Until DeSean Jackson was kicked to the curb by Chip Kelly and headed south down I-95, Decker was arguably the best receiver on the market this year. Look at his huge stats.

Chris Johnson? He's got a 2,000-yard season on his resume, and with a $4 million average salary on his new deal he pretty much broke the bank for what they're paying NFL running backs these days.

Mike Vick? He lost his job to Nick Foles, but was arguably the best quarterback on the market. He found a perfect landing as he walked into the door knowing Mornhinweg's offense.

And if you believe Eagles star Shady McCoy, there's no way Vick doesn't beat out Geno Smith and win the job in yet another Jets quarterback "compe-versy."

Vick had the best years of his career under Mornhinweg in Philadelphia.

"He's still got it," Mornhinweg said of Vick, 33. "He's going to compete hard."

With the football world watching intensely.

Yes, Mornhinweg - whose unit ranked 29th in the NFL last season for scoring and 31st in passing yards - should be energized by the arrival of his new tools.

Friends Forever: Second Time's the Charm for Playing House's Stars - May 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Lennon Parham, Jessica St. Clair

Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham are either very committed to their craft or they have impeccable timing.

In the summer of 2012, the duo started brainstorming ideas for a new TV show when St. Clair pitched a story about them raising a baby together. "She was like, 'This is insane, right?' And I was like, 'Actually, I kind of love it,'" Parham tells TVGuide.com. "That's definitely a dreamy idea that you'd get to raise a baby with your best friend."

Lo and behold, the two were shooting the pilot for Playing House eight months later and both pregnant with their first child. Parham was more than eight months along, while St. Clair was less than three. "I was throwing up in various lawns in Pasadena," St. Clair recalls, "but I couldn't tell anybody so I'd be like, 'Lennon, say that you need some water.'"

Season MVPs: The year's best performances

Fast-forward a year, and the duo are now mothers, as well as the stars, creators, and executive producers of USA's new series Playing House. In the half-hour comedy, which premieres Tuesday at 10/9c, Parham plays a mom-to-be who leaves her cheating husband and calls upon her workaholic best friend (St. Clair) to move back to their childhood hometown to help her raise her baby. "It's like a romantic comedy but it stars two women and it's sort of their love story as a friendship," St. Clair says. "Basically, how if they hadn't come back together, they wouldn't go on this path where they're going to choose to live the life they were meant to lead."

That sense of destiny is one of the many things Parham and St. Clair have in common with their on-screen counterparts. After meeting more than a decade ago at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York City, the two became fast friends and writing partners. Influenced by classic TV shows centered on female friendship like The Golden Girls, Laverne and Shirley and Kate & Allie, they created the half-hour comedy Best Friends Forever, which premiered in April 2012 on NBC. The series got the axe a month later, but it gave St. Clair and Parham a small but fiercely loyal fan base and a valuable learning experience. "We put every piece of ourselves, like literally flesh, into the show," Parham says. Despite the show's cancellation, the two became even more determined to work on a show together. "We had the time of our lives on BFF and so that idea that we could have a job where we got to work together ... we were like, 'We have to do this again,'" St. Clair says. "It's now ruined us for everything."

Exclusive Playing House video: Chuck's Ryan McPartlin gets real tight with the ladies

Although the two stars and most of the crew from BFF returned for Playing House, there was one change the two wanted to make. "We decided we really wanted to do something on cable because that would allow us to have lives, write fewer episodes, be able to write them and then go and shoot them," St. Clair says. Adds Parham: "And we thought maybe we'd have more control over the content and the voice of it." The two soon found a home at USA which was looking to break into half-hour comedies. "It felt like USA, because they had only done dramas, was maybe the place that would be home to something that wasn't just total comedy," St. Clair says. "A lot of comedy on television has a reserve to it and it's a little too cool for school ... but what we really wanted to do was a show where you laugh and you also can cry."

Indeed, the show is a little less snarky and a lot more optimistic much like St. Clair and Parham themselves. "The other thing that BFF taught me is that we need to enjoy it while it's happening because literally, the process of shooting it, if we are joyful in that moment, that will read and we are and we have been," Parham says.
