Pigs killed in fire that destroyed 3 sheds in town of Deerfield - April 13, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Several pigs were killed Thursday night in a fire that destroyed three sheds in the town of Deerfield, authorities reported.

A heat lamp is believed to be the cause of the fire that was reported at about 9 p.m. Thursday at 168 Fair Oaks Road, the Dane County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The pigs were in one shed and the other two sheds contained miscellaneous equipment, the release said.

All three sheds and contents are considered a total loss.

    No one was injured.

Dane County deputies and the Lake Mills and Deerfield fire departments arrived to find the sheds already fully engulfed.

"Fire personnel were able to extinguish all three fires within a short period of time," said Sheriff's Office Lt. Charles Immel in the release.

No dollar estimate of damage was given.

Men’s sheds movement gets presidential seal of approval - April 6, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

President Michael D Higgins has been named patron of the Irish Men's Sheds Association, a locally-based scheme to allow men to work on projects in a bid to prevent social isolation.

John Evoy, chief executive of the association, said it was a vindication of the work the organisation does.

"We are delighted that the President sees the value in the work that we do and we look forward to his patronage over the coming years," he said.

"We feel a great validation of our work and are very happy to have this opportunity to develop an association with the President.

"It is an enormous honour for the Irish Men's Sheds Association and the men we represent that the President of Ireland has agreed to be our patron.

"This recognition from the highest office in the country is a great moral boost to the thousands of men who attend their local sheds regularly."

There are now more than 120 men's sheds in Ireland. They are designed to offer a safe, friendly and inclusive environment where men from all walks of life can work on meaningful projects at their own pace, in their own time, and in the company of other men.

They have been acclaimed for providing a critical function for many unemployed men thanks to the substantial support network they provide.

The Irish association was founded by Mr Evoy on the back of an Australian model and using the motto "Men don't talk face to face. They talk shoulder to shoulder".

Search Warrant Sheds Light on McLelland Investigation - April 4, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Information revealed in a search warrant released Monday sheds light on the investigation into the murders of the Kaufman County district attorney and his wife.

In the document, officials said a family friend initially found the bodies of Mike and Cynthia McLelland at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday. The family friend went to the residence after trying to contact the couple several times without success.

The responding Kaufman County sheriff's deputies found cartridge casings inside the house near both victims. Deputies also reported seeing multiple gunshot wounds to both the district attorney and his wife.

Investigators: Nothing to Indicate Gang Tied to Kaufman Shootings

Authorities continue to investigate the shooting deaths of Kaufman County's district attorney and his wife. People familiar with the case tell NBC 5 that investigators have found nothing to indicate that the white supremacist prison gang the Aryan Brotherhood was involved.

Search for Answers in McLelland Slayings

Search warrant information shows what investigators are focusing on as they investigate the shooting deaths of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike and his wife Cynthia.

According to the search warrant, the last time anyone spoke to either Mike or Cynthia McLelland was Friday evening, when family members talked to the district attorney by telephone.

The documents also reveal that investigators are looking at phone records for two mobile numbers between Jan. 1 and Sunday.

Authorities have revealed no further information with regard to the investigation.

New golf sheds could lead to tennis court - March 30, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

White Pine Countys plans to install new golf cart sheds at the White Pine County Golf Course could yield a new tennis court in the process. The White Pine Golf Advisory Board voted to support new plans presented by White Pine County Commissioner Richard Howe to house three sheds, which will house 66 golf carts, on the location of the current tennis courts.

Last meeting we had a blue print that showed the sheds between the pump house and the tennis courts, Howe said. After input from different people from the community, the tennis courts caught the eye of several people and, if possible we think the golf cart sheds should be positioned where the tennis courts are.

The new location will also save money on the project costs because the County would not need to lay a new foundation for the sheds.

We wouldnt need the cement because we already have a foundation with the tennis courts, Howe said. I think everyone is in agreement that this is a good spot.

The move also opens up the opportunity for a single new tennis court. The current tennis courts have suffered cracks because of weather and local tennis players said the court is not usable, Howe said.

White Pine Community and Economic Development Director Jim Garza said that the County could still use Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act funds (SNPLMA) that were designated to make improvements to the current tennis courts if the County constructs a new court. But, the funds can only be used for its original planned use identified in the SNPLMA grant, meaning the County would have to come up with the funds to complete work on the new tennis court.

It does not allow us to do anything above and beyond that, Garza said. I think its a great idea but there are several things that would need to take place. The engineer would need to engineer the pad, most likely a post tension pad so the concrete wouldnt crack like it has. We would need to remove the existing fence and reinstall it around the new court. The centerline net would need to be removed and reinstalled and move the light poles and run the utilities through those poles. Those are the things that need to get done to make it happen successfully.

White Pine County Maintenance Supervisor Bill Calderwood said the savings from the golf cart shed project could be used toward the new tennis court. And the new tennis court would be easier for the County to maintain itself going forward, instead of having to bring in outside assistance.

The Commission voted to approve moving the sheds to the new location on the tennis courts. Not only will that help save money on the golf cart shed project, Howe said this will help bring a new, playable tennis court to tennis players in the county.

Were not taking over the tennis courts for the golf course without providing the tennis players a new tennis court, Howe said. It kind of fell into place like a perfect storm.

Farm chicken sheds for Clun beauty spot site - March 28, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Four giant sheds housing up to 180,000 chickens are set to be built at a farm in a Shropshire beauty spot after planners gave the scheme their blessing.

J Gwilliam and Sons will be build the 300ft-long sheds on the farm in Guilden Down, Clun, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty,

The plans will also see two jobs created, one for a full-time poultry manager and the other for a part-time worker in the farms sheep and arable businesses.

The sheds will be 80ft wide and 15ft high and clad in steel sheeting coloured dark blue. Each will house about 45,000 chickens.

A farm road is planned as part of the scheme which will connect broiler sheds to the A488 Bishops Castle to Clun road.

Shropshire councillors praised the scheme during yesterdays South Planning Committee meeting in Westgate, Bridgnorth, which received two letters of objection.

Councillor Milner Whiteman said: It seems to be naturally well hidden and has received very few objections.

The application will also take much of the traffic out of the centre of Clun.

Its the sort of development we are going to be seeing more of Shropshire and it should be encouraged.

Councillor Madge Shineton said she was satisfied there would be extensive landscaping around the sheds.

Report Sheds Light on Surgery-Related Deaths - March 28, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Report Sheds Light on Surgery-Related Deaths

A new report out today sheds light on the death rates from four areas of surgery and anaesthesia, and recommends improvements to the way patients are assessed for risk.

The Perioperative Mortality Review Committee (POMRC) has released its second report to the Health Quality & Safety Commission (the Commission), and this is available from the Commissions website at http://www.hqsc.govt.nz.

The POMRC, which operates under the umbrella of the Commission, reviews deaths related to surgery and anaesthesia which occur within 30 days of an operative procedure.

The Chair, Dr Leona Wilson, says it is reported that an estimated 230 million-plus major surgical procedures are carried out around the world each year, but the risks of death related to surgery and anaesthesia are still not well known.

We wanted to contribute to the health sectors knowledge of mortality rates and further understand the strengths and weaknesses of the national data sets we were drawing information from, says Dr Wilson.

Professor Alan Merry, Commission Chair, welcomes the report.

Understanding the risks associated with surgery is essential for assisting patients in making appropriate choices between health care options, for improving the safety of surgery and for ensuring the best value is obtained from the resources invested in health care, he says.

For example, this report illustrates the tragedy and waste that occurs when a patient dies from a pulmonary embolism that could potentially have been prevented.

The POMRC report drew on data from the National Mortality Collection and the National Minimum Dataset to examine death rates in four clinically important areas:
