GREENOCKS iconic sugar sheds have been left on the shelf by the recession and no one is interested in developing them at the moment.
From left at the sugar sheds and marina were Craig Latimer, a director of Blue Sea Marinas, who manage the James Watt Dock Marina, Brian Lavalette and Aubrey Fawcett.
Thats the not-so-sweet news from the sheds joint owners, the James Watt Dock LLP (Limited Liability Partnership).
Its now six years since 3.7 million was spent making the structures wind and watertight in the hope of ambitious development, but plans were hit on the head by the recession.
The LLP, which is made up of regeneration body Riverside Inverclyde and Greenock Ocean Terminal owners Peel Ports, secured planning permission in 2011 for a business centre, cafe and bar along with two car parks, but that was also hit by the recession.
But RI chief executive Aubrey Fawcett and Peels property asset manager, Brian Lavalette, say they are continuing to market the sheds in the hope of development.
Mr Fawcett said: RI and Peel got together in 2008 with the aim of opening up the site, and as part of that there was the new road and roundabout.
The establishment of the marina has been very successful and is going from strength to strength, and weve looked at doing various things with the sugar sheds.
Mr Lavalette said the original masterplan was for a range of commercial, leisure and retail uses, with some housing in the upper levels of sheds a and c.

John Degenkolb was in tears after a late puncture cost him a chance of victory in last years Milan-San Remo but he shed tears of joy on the podium after winning this years race with a perfectly executed sprint in Via Roma.
Degenkolb was not one of the big-name favourites before the race after a quiet, below the radar, build-up at Paris-Nice. But the Giant-Alpecin team rode a great race and put all their chips on Degenkolb. His number came up, confirming yet again, after Marcel Kittels success at last years Tour de France, that Giant-Alpecin is currently the best sprint team in the peloton.
Last year I had tears in my eyes after I had the most disappointing day in my cycling life and this year I had tears in my eyes because I won, Degenkolb said in his post-race press conference.
I dont actually remember the last two kilometres of the race, so I will have to watch it again, he admitted. I didnt believe Id win fifty metres before the line. I definitely thought Id not be able to beat Alex (Kristoff) in the sprint because he started strong. But there was a difference in our power and speed. Before the line he died and I could overtake him. Crossing the line was pure emotion.
Degenkolb showed he had worked hard during the winter by winning the uphill finish at the Dubai Tour in early February. After that he finished second in a sprint at the Ruta del Sol and third on another stage in Paris-Nice but was happy to quietly prepare for Milan-San Remo without the tag of favourite, despite being perfectly suited to the tough finale of the first monument of the season.
I think that wasnt a disadvantage, he said, cracking yet another big smile.
I could prepare myself in the winter and came good and in shape like I wanted to. Last week wasnt successful as last year at Paris-Nice but we didnt panic because we didnt win a stage. Anything can happen in cycling, we didnt worry and I felt my shape was good and so focused on Milan-San Remo 100 per cent. We came here on Thursday and did a long ride and studied everything again. We did the same last year but this time we finished it off.
I think Im a rider with s big engine who is able to survive in Classic races. If theres a sprint in the end like Roubaix last year or Milan-San Remo today. Ive got a good chance to beat the other guys. I like it if everybody suffers and this was a hard race because of the weather conditions.
Save your legs, save your legs, save your legs
Degenkolb admitted that he carefully hid in the peloton for much of the race, only moving forward before the Capi climbs and of course the Poggio.

Summary:A new global CIO study from Deloitte sheds light on why CIOs and IT have a tough time. The data offers lessons on how to fix the problem.
New research from Deloitte sheds light on the state of CIOs today and covers several important points regarding CIO activities, relationships, and strategies. You can download the full report as a PDF here.
Deloitte claims it surveyed over 900 CIOs; however, the data shows that 50 percent of respondents have the title CIO, 22 percent are Head of IT or IT Director, and 22 percent are other. The number of CIO respondents is significant either way, but maintaining a skeptical eye is always important when interpreting research.
The following graphic shows the respondent breakdown and their reporting relationships:
IT budgets and priorities. According to the research, 77 percent responded that IT budgets are growing with only 23 percent reporting that their 2014 budget declined from 2013. However, the most important IT priority in the next 12-18 months is the vague goal support new business needs, as shown in this graphic:
Supporting new business needs is the motherhood and apple pie of IT, expressing a positive intention to do what the business needs. However, without more detail, such phrases provide little insight into specific actions IT must take to increase value to the business.
CIO portfolio. The survey presents more good intentions in its analysis of key dimensions of CIO portfolio. Here is the diagram:
However, a closer look at the data raises concerns about the CIOs ability to achieve the promise of those good intentions. Although 70 percent of respondents say their organization has maturity in delivering business outcomes, only 55 percent prioritize this goal. Likewise in the next dimensions, enhancing customer experience and building a more agile IT delivery model.
In summary, these factors indicate that IT may possess an over-inflated sense of confidence when in being responsive to business needs. We see these challenges reflected in relationships with marketing ,research pointing to dissatisfaction with IT performance, and the rise of shadow IT .
CIO relationships. The data shows that CIO relationships are fraught with some difficulty. Here is a graph of the data:

Six workers' huts and an old goal form a private museum. A 1950s shearing shed is repurposed for storage on a tulip farm. Stables double as a workshop for motorcycle repairs. Recycled drill rods from a mining exploration company support a boat shed. A herringbone dairy is now the woodshed on a property producing heritage meats.
Over two weekends during the Tasmanian International Arts Festival, another chapter is added to the lives of these buildings as they become performance venues for experimental, improvisational and new music compositions.
Acoustic Life of Sheds is a series of performances that brings together farming families and artists to explore the stories of these sheds and how those stories illustrate larger global narratives. This radio adaptation of the live event immerses you in the artists' process as they reflect on the acoustics and aesthetics of the sheds and histories of the families who own them - families who, themselves, continue to responding creatively to changes in their rural world.
Acoustic Life of Sheds is a project by arts and social change company, Big hART. Featured artists include Genevieve Lacey, Phil Slater, Marshall McGuire, Jim Atkins, Lucky Oceans, Konrad Park, Damian Barbeler, Nicole Forsyth, Nick Haywood, Alistair Dobson, Damien Kingston, Liam OLeary, Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey. Former and current shed owners include Jack Archer; Jane Sharp; Keryn and Don Thompson; Dave and Paul Roberts-Thompson, Rodney and Lix Walker.
Stuart Thorne is a sound designer and recordist, composer, musician & DJ working in commercial & experimental time based arts, often in partnership with filmmakers and visual artists. Stuart has worked on a range of projects for the ABC, SBS, MTV, National Portrait Gallery and Big hART.

North Dakota state data show 107 active rigs as of Thursday, down 45 percent year-on-year and 3.6 percent less than last week. The rig count of 111 last week was the lowest since April 2010.
Bentek Energy, a forecasting division of energy reporting agency Platts, found crude oil production in and around the Bakken shale formation in North Dakota averaged 1.2 million barrels per day. That is around 276,000 bpd higher than February 2014, despite the drop off.
"Producers are countering the decline in rig count with a drive for efficiency gains in drilling and completion techniques and an increased focus on their more productive acreage," Catherine Bernardo, Bentek's manager of energy analysis, said in a statement.
Data from the North Dakota Industrial Commission found the 1.19 million bpd produced in January, the last full month for which data are available from the agency, was 2.5 percent less than the all-time high reported in December.
Data in a drilling productivity report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, meanwhile, finds net production from key shale basins in the United States may slow down in April. Of the seven shale basins reviewed, including Bakken, only the Permian shale in western Texas shows a projected gain.
Bentek, however, finds production from the Eagle Ford shale basin in Texas increased 3.1 percent year-on-year to average 1.6 million bpd. Yet, when combined with the Niobrara shale in Colorado, EIA data show expected production from Bakken and Eagle Ford will drop off by 24,000 bpd by April, which would be the first decline since EIA drilling record-keeping began in 2013.
EIA attributed the drop off in rig deployments to the low price of oil and subsequent spending cuts.
"When producers make the decision to lay down some drilling rigs, they generally start by idling the older, least-efficient ones first," it said in a Wednesday brief. "The effect on production depends on the productivity of the remaining rigs."
