25 Ways to Add Curb Appeal to the Home During National Curb Appeal Month - August 4, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Maumee, Ohio (PRWEB) August 04, 2014

During National Curb Appeal Month, the experts at Fypon remind homeowners that the importance of curb appeal can never be underrated when you own a home. Whether its pride of ownership, fitting in with the neighborhood (or standing out!), the exterior of your home reflects your personality and can create positive impressions. And, if youre selling your house, the importance of curb appeal jumps ten-fold as you try to position your home for an instant connection with potential buyers.

There are dozens of easy ways to upgrade different exterior aspects of your home. Many of these enhancements can be achieved with Fypon synthetic products. Lightweight yet durable, these low-maintenance pieces resist insect infestations, rot, decay and moisture. Try any of the following fast and easy installations to transform the look of your home:

1.Trim out exterior windows. Use crossheads for over a window and top with a solid, decorative or recessed panel keystone accent piece. On the sides and below the window, use moulding pieces with plinth blocks in the corners to eliminate miter cuts.

2.Make your entryway more welcoming with an elegant door surround. Start with fluted pilasters on either side of the door and then top the door with a decorative pediment --- try a rams head, sunburst, acorn or peaked cap style.

3.Accent a bay window by adding window panels below the opening.

4.Add classic crown or fascia dentil moulding beneath gutters and eaves to heighten the appearance of your home.

5.Replace a rotting wooden porch system with a new structural balustrade system which includes porch posts, top and bottom rails, balusters and all the other pieces essential to create a great, weather-resistant porch.

6.Interlock and install pieces of PVC Beaded Board on the ceiling of a porch or sunroom and then use the same low-maintenance materials for a wainscot treatment on the walls.

7.If you have a ceiling fan on a front porch, add a two-piece ceiling medallion around the fan's base to add style to your entire porch.

2014 Mazda3 review: Best tech compact is also the best-handling small car - July 3, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Mazdas 2014 Mazda3 scores on all four cylinders: great tech, excellentdriving, a reasonable price, and efficiency. Mazda has extended big car features such as adaptive cruise control and a head-up display down to the compact car class. With SkyActiv engine technology, its improving fuel economy up to 41 mpg and cutting emissions, and breaking new ground with capacitor-based brake regeneration.

No one forces all the Mazda tech on you. Its there if you want it, for instance if youre moving down from a bigger car and still want the driver assists, or if youve seen the lifesaving benefits of Smart City Brake Support (Mazda) or City Safety (Volvo). The combination of tech, performance and space efficiency earns the 2013 Mazda3 our Editors Choice as best mainstream compact car.

The 2014 Mazda3 is a new model and a significant improvement over the 2010-2013 second generation Mazda3. Its offered as a four-door sedan at 180 inches or five-door hatchback thats five inches shorter but hasmore cargo-hauling capacity. An entry sedan goes for $17,000 while a loaded five-door with the larger four-cylinder engine and tech package comes in at $30,000.

The exterior and interior designs flow better in 2014. The tiny, smartphone-size navigation screen is gone, replaced by a 7-inch LCD that sits atop the dash. Critics say it looks tacked on while fans say the design evokes a flat panel TV on a platform and note the same look is popular on high end German cars, so why is everybody picking on Mazda. A simplified cockpit controller (compared to BMW iDrive) on the console makes selections on the LCD display.

Every Mazda3 has a USB jack, most cars have Bluetooth, and blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert are readily available beyond the entry trim lines. To simplify matters for Mazda and dealers (fewer variants to stock), most of the advanced tech is in a single $2600 technology package at the upper end: adaptive cruise control (radar cruise control in Mazda lingo), lane departure warning, automatic high beams, forward obstruction warning, Smart City Brake Support, active grille shutters to cut wind resistance, and brake regeneration (i-ELOOP). Whats not in the tech package is also impressive: no moonroof, no anthracite headliner, no body side moulding.

Forward obstruction warning uses the ACC radar and warns if you about to rear-end the car ahead when youre traveling 10 mph or faster. Smart City Brake Support uses a windshield-embedded laser to detect objects when youre moving 3-19 mph (4-30 kph). Youre warned, the brakes are pre-charged, and if youre still unresponsive (say, texting), the car brakes for you. It may stop in time and at least it will mitigate the collision.

The coolest and most unique Mazda technology is the one that sounds like a breakfast cereal at the Apple Labs cafeteria: i-ELOOP. Thats intelligent energy loop. When you slow or brake, the alternator turns kinetic energy into electricity and stores it not in a battery but capacitors. Mazda says it can be used to power the headlamps, climate control, and the audio system, with enough energy savings to bump up fuel efficiency by as much as 10%, according to Mazda. Even 5% would be impressive.

by Flavien Dachet - June 22, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Unveiled in 1972, the Peugeot 104 was a compact car with a simple and honest design by Paolo Martin. The most powerful ZS model was more of a warm hatch than a hot one, but it did feature a 1124cc engine with 66bhp. Thanks to the car's weight of only 760kg, the car could reach speeds of up to 100mph - terrifying in a 104.

At the time, Peugeot enjoyed a great relationship with Pininfarina, the latter believing there was an opportunity there to create a back-to-basics little sports car offering cheap thrills to an optimistic young audience.

Using the 104 ZS as a base, Pininfarina designed the Peugette with production in mind and optimized every component accordingly, starting with the panels which were designed to be interchangeable.

The clamshell hood and the trunk lid were identical, and so were the doors and the sills, which could be swapped from left to right. Only the nose and the tail moulding differed, yet they included carryover lamps from the 104 and also acted as integrated bumpers. Finally Pininfarina added on a rollbar and a crossbeam behind the seats for extra safety and to make up for the loss of transverse rigidity.

Different versions were made. The original was first shown at the 1976 Turin Motor show as a two-seater roadster with a low windscreen and a soft top. The interior looked very distant from the 104 but it still used the same tachometer and gauges, only laid out differently along the top of the dashboard.

Other elements like windscreen wipers, heater controls and vents were also carried over. The slim bucket seats were new and offered appropriate lateral support at shoulder level but no headrests. It was painted red with gray trim and finished with playful stripes bearing the Italian colors.

The second version was shown the following year at the Geneva Show: a monoposto variant intended for one selfish driver. This version included a large panel which covered the passenger seat. As a proper barchetta, it also ditched the large windscreen for a frameless piece of perspex wrapping around the driver's seat. The square pods were also moved behind the steering wheel for better visibility. A coup and even a pick-up variant were also planned but never built.

Thanks to its deep dish wheels and large tires, the Peugette not only looked cool, it also had the potential to handle like a kart. It was 60kg lighter than the 104 ZS and, by the time it was unveiled, Peugeot had launched a range of optional upgrades for the engine that could have pushed its power up to 80bhp.

It had all the ingredients to become a unique and exciting addition to the Peugeot range. The French firm was very interested and kept car for over two months to study it and play with it. Eventually someone decided the car would not sell and it was sent back to Pininfarina and completely forgotten; a real shame. No guts, no glory.

    First seen 1976 Turin Motor Show Length 3,340mm Width 1,540mm Height 1,150mm Wheelbase 2,230mm Weight 700kg Engine 1124cc four-cylinder, 66bhp
